Hey guys / girls,

Stripping my rb25 motor down tomorrow and just spoke with the mechanic and he mentioned that forged pistions might have to come from the states and can take 6 weeks to get here?

Surely there is a website or w/shop down south that sells the above parts that I need here in Australia?

Does anyone have any recommendations on who I can speak to or web links I can have a look at to get the parts?

Any help will be really appreciated. I tried looking but I'm not having much luck

Phee

VPW and even autobarn might have something at their warehouses would take only days to get it

Hi-octane give them a ring they might have some acl's in stock speak to dave..

you dont O ring the block with a cometic gasket

PM Slide - from sliding performance... he can get the cometic gaskets for you.. he also does CP pistons

Wow thanks SO much!

I am sticking with the 25 now shanef. Too freaking hard to go the 30 bottom end here in Darwin, I just gave up. I had 365hp before she blew so that's enough... if I change my mind down the track (which I don't think I will) I will do something about it then :D

Edit: There is a gallery of photos from the rebuild. Just follow the link in my sig to find them. I haven't updated them since the engine was pulled out. I might go to the w/shop this w/end if they managed to strip it down today, and get some more pics to upload!

Soft phee bloody soft :O nah u should be happy with any rebuild i guees

My engine's been built for over a week now but im still waiting on the sump adapter, it'll be finished, eventually

RB30 isn't difficult..

Quite suprising how easy it is actually. :D

Depends on how motivated your mechanic is. Some have been in the job too long and can't be bothered with something they haven't done before.

Haha... It's been off the road over 3 months now and I just don't care. Even if it went back to what it was I just want the bloody thing back!! I don't have any other trnasport apart from it so catching lifts or having to borrow cars is starting to shit me right off :D

I sell all of this stuff as well. The pistons can come locally but most people prefer to wait the 4 weeks for JE, ROSS, or CP.

For JE pistons with rings and pins, eagle rods, and HKS camshafts you will be looking at $4000

The Cometic head gasket with VRS set will set you back $700.

The Cometic head gasket with VRS set will set you back $700.

Thats fairly exxy..

I picked up my rb25 cometic mls for $150 (through the machinist) and vrs kit for $275 from nissan.

I went the Rb25 hg as it works just as well and the rb26/30 cometic gasket was double the price.

Thanks heaps for all the replies guys, and all the PM's. I'll write everything down and add up my figures. I am not after brand names, I am after reliability. If there is something there that does the exact same job that the HKS / Tomei etc do... then I'll take it.

I have heard the stock rods and cams are both good for 500hp? Has anyone else heard this? I am still another 100hp off that figure so I could save some $$ in that area if the rumors are true.

To everyone that PM'ed me, I'll get back to you in the next couple of days.

Thanks again for all your help. I wont worry about o-rings either. Sounds like they aren't needed.

    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
    • It's been quite the ordeal but hey, at least you figured it out.
    • The final part arrived today to un-clampify and simplify the intake Who would have though a 1/2" hose stainless bulkhead fitting designed for below waterline bilge pumps would be what I needed Test fit on a 3" offcut I had laying around to see if it would work, and it worked a treat All going well the intake will be on its "final version" tomorrow
