Banks wouldn't loan me the money for my 96 SII Gts-t because it was a 96 model, but they'd have happily loaned me a couple grand more to get a 97 SII Gts-t.

I told them to eat c0ck, and ended up getting my parents to let me use some of the line of credit they had on their house.

I now make fortnightly payments to them, at half the interest rate the banks wanted, and will have the loan paid off in half the time.

My mother is a DON (you know what that is).

I always knew your mother was a bit manly :P

Lets see, I work in IT, but only part time and earn a pittance -- my boss agreed to an increase 10 months ago and still hasn't started paying me: bitch. Anyway, I am in the third year of my..... arts (for the illiterate out there, that's history, etc, etc, not visual arts) .... degree, so I guess my money making opportunities will come in about a year and a half once I graduate with honours.

Regardless, I have managed to save about $13,000 in the past 4-ish years, most of which I now have sitting in an ING direct account. Tempted to invest it in something, but I don't like the look of the property market at the moment and shares are a gamble I would rather not take. Thankfully I am leeching off my parents for the car :D

LW.

I work at Woolworths, make pretty poor money (in the scheme of things). But Yeah lots of hard work and saving, and of course you will have to go without things. Im 19 and living at home. I have SFA posessions, no dvd player or vhs player or PS2 or even a colour TV in my room (also no girlfriend). People tell me that I work so long and hard and I have nothing to show for it, (drive my shitty old VL to work), I just tell them next time they pop round, to check out whats in the garage nextdoor, usually shuts them up. And hey who said you have to give up drugs...

i was 18 when i baught my skyline it was my 3rd car (none of them written off or dammaged) and I got a lown for the money. All in my name no gurrantors or anything... and yes i work in IT.

The car now has a RB31det in it and goes rather well :P

had a swift gti from ages 17--19 and bought a 1996 r33 gts-t (had two cars for a period) when i was 18, and just sold a month ago after owning it for a year..

the whole time i studied full time and worked nights... i saved for half of the first car then borrowed and paid back the rest... the skyline i borrowed 12.5 grand for, and had the rest saved up.. now after selling i have $15 grand in savings, but no skyline(or licence for 4 more months)

oh yeah and i am studying IT as well... networking.. i have 20 hours a week of classes and 30 hours a week of work, so i dont have much spare time but make the most of it :)

it's just the choices you make..........you guys are spot on about not smoking, drinking.

anyone can get a skyline if they get it on a loan. but if they do kiss goodbye to freedom for a few years. you cant do stuff like quit a full time job to go look for another one because you think the boss is a nob (something i've done). if i had a car loan to pay off i'd think i'd still be in that place feeling damn pissed off. pay it all off, if you need a loan you cant afford it. if you cant afford it dont buy it. banks are there to screw people and make money.

like i said, choices. %99 of people under 21 who own a skyline live at home (no/cheap rent bills, food etc). is there anyone here who's an exception?? who here under 21 owns and maintains a skyline under their own earning and lives out of home..........i'm sure there's some.

I work as a trainee accountant, doing uni part/full time, work full time. I took out a $12k loan as I thought i was going to buy a silvia, came back from sydney with an R33... lucky i had $6k savd up plus some inheritance money. Apart from initial lay out, insurance running costs etc are roughly the same and the car has more street cred than a sil so i am happy. Been about a month and i'm almost payed off my credit hard from insurance, rta transfer etc. After than it's smooth sailing til i want to move out of home.

well i think that most people have to know by now hat most wrx's and skylines on the road are most probably leased, or have pesonal loans on the car, casue you wont be able to get insurance if you owe money on it. For people not living in sydney and buying and selling property, units and small houses, and making small money eg 20-50's. you should come to sydney and try and buy a unit/apartment and make money on it, most people struggle to buy anything casue house and unit prices are reduculous, you cant buy a house for under $600,000 near the city in a shitty area, let along in a good area.

i bought my car for the investment peoperty i bought in the city, i have $460,000 owing to the bank, that includes my car and most mods i have and are doing, i bought the place for 550,000. and now its worth over 900.000 so really my car doesnt cost me anything casue the money i bought the car with was equity from the loan. so if you have an investemnt property you can easily afford a gtr or porsche or what ever you want, if you dont have an investment property, then sorry your badlluck

I sell body organs. Not my own though - so if you wake up after a hard night on the piss with a bandaid and some panadol then I may have paid you a visit :P

omg.. why did u dig up this old thread?

i work 6 days per week and 10 - 12 hour shifts ( sometimes even 7 days per week ...

Im a brick layer... and live with my parents.. thats how i bought all my GT-Rs.

and i usualy sell them for what i payed , since GT-R's dont go down much in price now days anyway

It's good to hear many IT employees own skylines. :P

I am also working in IT industry as an web developer and I am planning to buy

'89 Skyline GTR 32 end of this year or early next year.

Hope I can post my GTR's pics in this forum someday..

Cheers guys

    • sold listed as a Tomei LSD 1.5 Way For 1998+ Nissan Skyline ER34 25GT RB25DE w/Open R200 https://www.ebay.com/itm/174006114594?campid=5338967980&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&toolid=10050&customid=&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&loc_physical_ms=108689&loc_interest_ms=&campid=5338967980&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&toolid=10050&customid=71883f2ccc571356e0a757bc7adfdde2&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&loc_physical_ms=108689&loc_interest_ms= it went in like butter all gears, alignment, back lash etc, rotation and clearances correct, and if rolling all rotates smooth and free when coasting down road , clutch in or out over 10 mph smooth... its the binding, clunking and jerking from a stop that is most concerning, also seems like its going to tear the tires off in 10 miles of normal road driving.
    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
