edit: do some sums on insurance for younger drivers and you will see that its not an irresponsible thing NOT to insure your performance car.

i was in a really bad car crash 2 years ago and the damage on your car looks alot worse then mine, thank f**k your alright. Unfortunatly the outcome was different for my crash =/

Let me give you an example of why full comp isnt worth it for young drivers.

1997 Nissan Stagea, modified exhaust, turbo, suspension, intercooler, ebc and ecu, $4300 per annum and 800+1200$ excess for a 18/19 year old driver/owner.

Import STOCK AS A ROCK Stagea, 10k landed AND complied.

Replace all the mods and sell parts from the wreck, ends up about the same as having paid 2 years of insurance.

I had a stack, that night cost me ~5k, BUT i would have paid $4300 x 2 + $800 + $1200 if i had insurance.....

Also FYI, I could easily afford that 4.5k per annum it really wouldnt put a dent in my pocket, I just dont think see there being a point when that premium+excess is more than half of the cost to import/comply another one.

So if you dont get insurance, its not because you cant afford it full stop.

Now the car is fixed, Ive got about $24,000 worth of plans for it to be done over the next few months, and guess what, I am not going to get full comp again. Simply put, I just dont think anyone will insure me, and if they do, there will EASILY be something on the car that they can deny me a claim for, so woohoo, wasted money paying premiums to have dishonored claims!

If I was an old guy, sure, id get full comp. My parents pay like $400 a year for a 2001 Astra full comp and the excess is $400 too, thats value, but sorry, premiums of ~5k and excess of ~2k is just shooting up real high there on the "rip-off-o-meter"

I don't think the argument is about not having comprehensive insurance, but more about having no insurance at all!

i.e. no third party, fire and theft.

I don't care if you decide not to have full comprehensive thats your choice, but if you are driving around without at least third party then you are nothing but a menace.

(not meant at anyone in particular, only those without third party)

This is where your example falls down - 18 year old with a modified turbo import? Of course the premia would be insane.

$5K? OK, now let's say you hit a BMW Series 7. Not even the top of the line one. That's the ugly side of $200K. Now let's say the passenger was pregnant. The passenger and unborn child die in the crash. The driver is incapacitated for life.

That's an awful lot of Stagea parts.

Chris Rock summed it up best, they should call it "In case shit". I can understand the side of not wanting to pay such high prices, but "in case shit happens", I don't want to be caught out of it paying for an empty spot in my driveway, paying for someone elses car because I was irresponsible or paying money off for 10 years with nothing to show for it.....

As for the other topic brought up anyone with no insurance at all should be belted across the face with a large trout.

$1700 a year, full comp, $25k agreed value, 20 years old, unlimited mods, $900 excess.

Compulsary third party insurance covers the death of third party victims.

Dont need full comp to cover other property. So that BMW Series 7 you crashed into can be covered by cheap as chips (relatively) third part property insurance (dont know what the limit is tho)

My datto....hahahahah, full insurance? I pay more in a year than the cars worth. Fact is, accidents rarely happen. They happen more when youre young and dumb and when you drive like a dickhead (and there are too many who do).

If full comp is worth more than the car after two years, its not worth it. Drive safely and be it so that accidents rarely happen, then the two 3rd party insurances have you covered well with probablity on your side.

Some people in this thread that are getting really amped up can't seem to differentiate different types of Insurance. Full comprehensive? As long as the guy had Third party property damage insurance then nobody is in a position to abuse or bag the crap out of him.

Not to mention even with full comprehensive insurance his mate driving most likely wouldn't be covered anyway.

INSURANCE Right?!? I am 32 never had a claim on insurance in the past and rang shannons for a quote on insuring my new (new to me ) 32 GTR before I even get a chance to tell the guy my age or anything else he asks if I have owned a skyline before, after I say no he says unless I can prove a history of owning performance cars they would be unable to insure me. WHAT TH f*k was all I could think as the guy then hung up on me after saying some shit like ring us back after 12 months of ownership.

Then they would probly knock back any calims coz a modified anything anyway.

Insurance is a rip off.

Buy an alarm and try not to wreck it what else can ya do.

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...  
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
