Hey all, just got myself a '92 R32 and have decided not to go with full comp insurance as I'm on my Ps and cant afford the ridiculous fee. I was just wondering if anyone can recommend an insurer for my CTP, as I've heard a few import owners speaking of a number of insurers I hadn't previously come across. So if anyone knows a cheap one, please let me know. Oh and I'm in melbourne.

Shit I just noticed the insurance thread, i'll have a read but if there are any recommendations let me know. Cheers

CTP costs only vary with the number of cylinders, not the type of car so it really only varies by a couple of dollars between insurers.

this is not always true, in relation to a NSW ctp greenslip there is often quite a difference between what different companies offer.

this year one company (AAMI) quoted me $100 less than all others.

go here to get quotes from all companies although some will not recognise imports online (u have to ring them)

Victoria doesnt have a seperate CTP. You pay your rego, and it has the insurance included in it already.

Are you talking about third party insurance? Then places like Just cars and Shannons etc are your best bet. But I'd highly reccommend getting comprehensive insurance. It seems expensive but you get what you pay for.

CTP or greenslip is privatised in NSW. It was introduced (15 years ago??) in an effort to lower the cost of CTP but ultimately has cost alot more and more over the years

Hasnt the price for CTP gone up??

i remember seing an ad by that blue heelers star, sayin greenslip is now covered for young teenagers who are injured, therefore the price is a little stepper..

Or something along those lines..

I got rego due soon as well.. So need to hunt for cheap greenslips.. hmm

that website above has a comparison for most (if not all) companies which offer ctp greenslips, a compulsory thing for rego in nsw.

if you cant afford comprehensive (its piss ass expensive for p'platers, 3.2k for me, plus a 2k excess), i recommend you get ctp and then a 3rd party insurance, such as just cars 3rd party fire and theft, which will cover anyone you crash (i.e fix their car not yours), and will also give you $5000 in the event of a fire or theft.

i remember doing an online quote for an r33 and it turned out to be somewhere around $540

What if you dont purchase CTP at all??

I know it cover you in an event of an accident.

But im talkin about legal issues.

Ie. will you get a fine for not taking it? Or you are unable to drive your car etc etc?? something like that.

u cannot register your car without a ctp green slip.

and as someone else said there is a wide misconception that it covers third party property damage, this is not true, it is only for personal injury and u need to buy third party property damage seperately. that is usually around $600 for a p plater in nsw from justcars.

I didn't know that, I must be thinking of third party insurance as you mentioned. That's the basic one that covers fire and theft and costs around $500 per year right?

i think ctp and 3rd party are around the same price.

dude. CTP IS THRIRD PARTY. That's what it stands for. Compulsory Third Party

I believe what this gentleman is interested in is "Third Party Property, Fire and Theft". Which is NOT CTP. Third party property covers the damage you cause to someone elses property, and will pay you out $5000 in the case of your car being claimed by fire, or stolen. Personally I think it's a waste of money. The payout is very small compared to the premium. Far better to just bite the bullet and pay for Comprehensive insurance.

    • My apologies. I forgot we were talking about weird beard M series stuff. Had been talking elsewhere with someone about an R33 with similar subject and got confused.
    • Nope, I don't like the look of ND RF, or any ND really, I don't like their faces or arses, why, because of their "modern" lines, the NC, whilst "modernish" has a more rounded shape that I like Well, that's how my overly judgemental eyes see it anyway
    • Should be more than fine, especially the overall fuel pressure would never exceed 3.5bar (assuming that thing never gets more than 0.5bar of boost in stock form). According to the chart, it's 11amps.
    • I definitely know the first rule here, look first, ask second. I've seen many people get roasted 😂 I found a few diagrams for the RB, but I'm yet to come across one for the VQ. From what I have read, the pump gets the +12v along with the FPCM, and it's the negative wire that gets passed through the resistor to regulate the voltage. So I assume I can just ground the negative wire at the pump to eliminate the FPCM control. But I really wanted to see the VQ circuit diagram first to make sure I understood it correctly. Once the new pump is in I'll do some testing to see how it behaves, and in the meantime, I'll keep looking for a wiring diagram. Thanks for your help mate, your time is greatly appreciated.
    • Maybe? I have the Supercheap ToolPro low thingo. It has a somewhat smaller diameter lifting "bowl" than you would expect on a workshop grade trolley jack, and a split rubber pad to suit that diameter. It clears the "N1" style skirts I have. Probably wouldn't if the jack's bowl and a suitably larger rubber block were in use. Having said that though.....you only need the rubber block to exist on the inner side of the pinchweld, so could carve away any rubber that fouled the skirt, leaving some there for "insurance" </simples>
