Mr. Keets
Dude! Whats your head worth???Buy the best lid you can afford. As for getting it past a scruitineer...You may have trouble with the $30.00 option from a pawn shop Try the bike accessories store opposite maccers in Vic Park, i bought mine there and they had a good range of brands and prices. ix9
As long as your "Pawn shop" helmet is Australian Standards Certified, and has the correct sticker (with the ticks on it) it will pass scrutineering. You're not going to be riding a bike with it if it's just for drags, so spending $95489458 on a helmet is stupid. Hell, the whole helmet IN your car at the drags and driver training days for AMATEURS like us is completely stupid. 9-second drag car and V8 supercars, yeah, then its' warranted. djr81
Hmm, interesting assertion. What people should keep in mind are the following: The heavier the helmet the harder the impact. So it is worthwhile paying more money to get a lighter helmet. A proper helmet eg a full face Arai or Bell or similar will still cost under $1000. They are the very best you can buy & will last for many years to come. Many people start with an interest in the drags on a Wednesday night & that often leads to them wanting to do hillclimbs & track days at Wanneroo etc. Personally I have seen cars turn turtle infront of me & seen more than one spear off into the scenery. The $100 dollars you may have saved buying a stinking second hand helmet won't feel like much at that point. Looking after your head is not stupid... djr81
I think you missed that bit No I didn't. Have a look at the attached photo from a hillclimb last year. The car in question broke a suspension component in the front end. He was driving in a straight line shortly before it snapped. Point is you can't go get a second hand head from anywhere - so it pays to look after the one you have, even if it is as ugly as mine. Mr. Keets
Yes, the AS for helmets defines it's adherence to construction, materials and design requirements but the AS is not the final say, a competent person, i.e a scrutineer, may decide to knock back the helmet and he/she is the final say. My R terminals at around 120mph at the plex and i know what I would rather have on my head when i'm on the noise. Having said that, budget is always a consideration. But in the end who really wants someone elses manky smell in their helmet. PSI_GTSII
But in the end who really wants someone elses manky smell in their helmet Exactly Mines a cheaper Helmet but at least its New. Bought it from one of those Motorcycle shops on the causeway. My motorcycle riding mate calls it an 'Ice Cream container' believing it offers about as much protection Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/135025-helmet/#findComment-2513742 Share on other sites

R DIRTY 3
Got mine from Revolution in Osborne park. Full face $200. He has cheaper open face ones as well. Much better to get new, that way you know it has never been damaged etc. Couple of hundred bucks is nothing compared to what the rest of the car has cost you.
