Hey all,

Before i start, ill just let you know i tried a search but didnt find the info i was looking for specifiacally.

I rang around a few places yesterday to get a quote for a new exhaust for my R34 GTT as it currently has a 2.5" pipe with a nismo muffler. The cheapest i got was $1600 for a FULL package. As soon as he said the price, i was like WTF, i might aswell spent less that that on a Power FC and tune and i will get much more power gain off it and the car will run smoother and more efficiently...

So, if i buy a power fc and hand contoller, what EXACTLY will i need to do? I have been told i will need a Z32 AFM and harness, but is that all??? I wont be installing it untill the car is on the dyno so as soon as it starts up with the FC installed, it can be tuned immediately...

So is it just plug and play with the Z32 and FC, or are there more things i need before i start?

I want to get ALL the info and parts BEFORE i try anything so my car will be ready when the time comes to tune it...

Thanks in advance!

the power fc just plugs in

thats it

but you should do the exhaust 1st or it will restrict what power gains you will get from everything else including the power fc

from just japs website

X-Force Mild Steel Exhaust System - Skyline R34 GTT Price: $899

3 inch to cat and 3.5 from the cat back

1.6k for full exhaust system sounds alright..

See if you can find a second hand catback.

Spilt dump/front pipe- 420

Hi-flow cat- 300

Anyways you will have better gains with a full exhaust system than the power fc at this stage.

After exhaust go purchase a boost controller, and FMIC.

Then once you get the hang of the power, then go purchase a power fc.

I dont know about r34s.. But theres no need for z32 afm, with just basic mods.

have 200rwkw r34 gtt -

no z32 afm or high flowed turbo or anything like that -

as far as power goes just;

power fc + boost controller + intercooler + pod + exhaust

hope this helps

john.

~~ in fact the boost controler and the exhaust is sufficient..the pfc is required for futher mods~~

wow...I'm actually running at 1bar to obtain 200rwkw

what other mods have you got?

goto:

my car's profile

the 200rwkw was done before the power fc when was on e-manage - was bad tuned though

have since changed shops, computers (to power fc), re-tuned, fuel (to 100) and boost(upped a bit)

new shop has tuned much better but won't use shoot-out mode on dyno

i think my boost is set at .8 but it seems to go up to .9 and sometimes 1 bar

i don't really understand it but it feels good and goes well so i'm happy

john.

I think for 200rwkw should be around 1bar..I use a pfc as well, probably because you have your fuel as 100ron~~

with turbo back exhaust + air pod + front mount i/c + power fc u should be getting over 200rwkw and with coils and boost at 11psi u should get over 210..

1bar to get 200rwkw thats not right at all.

cheers

If your just after a PFC...than a Z32 is NOT necessary, rather its the other way around.

If you switch to a Z32 than a PFC or other aftermarket ECU is necessary.

Having said that, its a bit of a waste to get a PFC so early in your build up, as you will have to retune it with every subsequent mod to get the best out of the car.

Get a full exhuast, fmic, boost controller, splitfire coils and THEN a PFC to tune it with those mods.

Hey,

Thanks for the replies!

I should have mentioned my mods first, so here they are:

Air pod

2.5" exhaust with nismo muffler

600x300x76mm FMIC

Electronic Boost Controller

Im pretty sure the actual exhaust pipe is aftermarket coz it looks around 2.5" and has the nismo vss muffler on it, but is VERY quiet and seems restrictive, thats the only reason i wanted a larger (and louder) one.

My low boost is set to 7psi which i use every day and my high boost is set to 10psi which i flick on to show someone how it goes or whatever which is very rarely.

Also, the PFC will remove the speed limiter wont it, as i have hit 180 a few times and the car just dies... if i go say 220, what will the stock speedo in the dash do? Will i need a nismo 320k dash too?

Thanks.

U'd be better off spending ur money on the xhaust first, if not a turboback, at least a catback with Hi-flow cat, see group buys for some great deals. No point getting a Power FC if u dont have an exhaust(see Paul's website), u wont gain much out of it with a restrictive xhaust. Bang for buck(power gain for ur $) u probly wont go past a turboback either.

U can pick up used catbacks in the ForSale-Private section for a decent price sometimes. I did n im happy with my Blitz NUR Spec. Otherwise an X-Force is great value for $, if u wanna save $ and ur not bothered bout flashy Jap systems or xhaust tones.

With an exhaust n the BC u already have, u should be able to make some decent power gains. Next step from there Power FC n if u wanna go with a bigger turbo, then a Z32 may be required.

Cheers.

Stock speedo will still be ok... Unless you actually want to know what speed you're doing? In which case the hand controller can give you a speed reading (although very difficult to read while you are travelling at that speed). Must say it's little scary to see the needle bang against the stopper  (Of course it was on a racetrack  )

I must say (despite some other people's opinions) that a power fc is a good mod early in the piece for an R34. I had some flat spot issues when I installed my EBC which were completely eliminated with the power pc.

As for the Z32 afm... It's really not necessary, as the resolution of the stock 34 one is very good.

Here's a list of my mods:

Apexi power filter

Blitz id3 EBC

Catco 5 inch cat

Reinhard cat back exhaust

Power fc

Made 185 rwkw on a 'safe tune' as the mechanic said he didn't want to lean on it too much as the stock SMIC starts to struggle around these power figures (I have since heard that the stock cooler is good for 200 rwkw but who knows really).

Give Ivan a call at Hi-power racing at slacks creek - very happy with the reinhard exhaust and it only cost $750... Cat was purchased through a GB on this forum.

Cheers.

Hi guys,

The funny weired thing about this is that i made 197 rwkw with everything factory except a boost controller (GFB Boost tap) to 13psi. (Automatic/tip-tronic)

What i would like to know though is..... does anyone know how to wire a GTR POWER FC into a GTT Auto in a piggyback style???

Hi guys,

The funny weired thing about this is that i made 197 rwkw with everything factory except a boost controller (GFB Boost tap) to 13psi. (Automatic/tip-tronic)

What i would like to know though is..... does anyone know how to wire a GTR POWER FC into a GTT Auto in a piggyback style???

hello

wether you choose to wire in BNR34 PowerFC or ER34 PowerFC in auto GTT the same problem is present

the ECU is a manual based ECU and it assumes the driver will clutch in on gear change (this the load axis is reduced etc)

it doesn't expect nor does it understand the autogearbox needs logic to change gears.

there is no known way to make the powerfc know the auto box is present and "work".

the auto stock ECU understands the auto box and will have shift logic coded to ensure the gear changes are smooth and not harsh on the auto box (retard timing on gear change).

so

auto ecu

you floor it, keep flooring it and don't take off the throttle, the ECU goes thru its mapping and reaches a point and says oh time to change gears, cool back out the timing, hey autobox its OK to change gears know, auto box changes, ECU resumes normal mapping and timing

manual ECU (any, not just powerfc)

you floor it, keep floring it and don't take off the thorttle, the ECU goes thru its mapping and continues (as it assumes manual) and expects you will contro gearchange ie throttle off / clutch in but the autobox must change at some point due to its mapping so it does so, assuming the ECU has backed out its timing and is ready for the change, but its not as the manual ecu wont listen / care and the autobox will give a flared / harsh change as the engine is still under full load instead of reduced load from backed out timing

so

does powerfc work in an auto? yes

will it be driveable? yes

will it work really well? probably not

will it make the auto box angry and risk its life? definetly

the only plausibe way i could see is you keep the stock ecu and intercept every sensor etc to the powerfc and piggyback it, but whats the point?

just get a proper supported solution in the first place, there are a number of auto tuneable options retaining the std ECU correctly

and it doesnt mattter what ECU / system you use

how its tuned will determine what power it makes (and how). ie a powerfc based skyline wont make more power than a HKS FCON based skyline (assuming same car type etc).

its all bout how it is tuned and (if) tuned correctly. so dont think you must get a powerfc just because people make power with them, you should make the same power with nistune, vipec, motec, wolf, autronic etc if tuned correctly

    • Look, realistically, those are some fairly chunky connectors and wires so it is a reasonably fair bet that that loom was involved in the redirection of the fuel pump and/or ECU/ignition power for the immobiliser. It's also fair to be that the new immobiliser is essentially the same thing as the old one, and so it probably needs the same stuff done to make it do what it has to do. Given that you are talking about a car that no-one else here is familiar with (I mean your exact car) and an alarm that I've never heard of before and so probably not many others are familiar with, and that some wire monkey has been messing with it out of our sight, it seems reasonable that the wire monkey should be fixing this.
    • Wheel alignment immediately. Not "when I get around to it". And further to what Duncan said - you cannot just put camber arms on and shorten them. You will introduce bump steer far in excess of what the car had with stock arms. You need adjustable tension arms and they need to be shortened also. The simplest approach is to shorten them the same % as the stock ones. This will not be correct or optimal, but it will be better than any other guess. The correct way to set the lengths of both arms is to use a properly built/set up bump steer gauge and trial and error the adjustments until you hit the camber you need and want and have minimum bump steer in the range of motion that the wheel is expected to travel. And what Duncan said about toe is also very true. And you cannot change the camber arm without also affecting toe. So when you have adjustable arms on the back of a Skyline, the car either needs to go to a talented wheel aligner (not your local tyre shop dropout), or you need to be able to do this stuff yourself at home. Guess which approach I have taken? I have built my own gear for camber, toe and bump steer measurement and I do all this on the flattest bit of concrete I have, with some shims under the tyres on one side to level the car.
    • Thought I would get some advice from others on this situation.    Relevant info: R33 GTS25t Link G4x ECU Walbro 255LPH w/ OEM FP Relay (No relay mod) Scenario: I accidentally messed up my old AVS S5 (rev.1) at the start of the year and the cars been immobilised. Also the siren BBU has completely failed; so I decided to upgrade it.  I got a newer AVS S5 (rev.2?) installed on Friday. The guy removed the old one and its immobilisers. Tried to start it; the car cranks but doesnt start.  The new one was installed and all the alarm functions seem to be working as they should; still wouldn't start Went to bed; got up on Friday morning and decided to have a look into the no start problem. Found the car completely dead.  Charged the battery; plugged it back in and found the brake lights were stuck on.  Unplugging the brake pedal switch the lights turn off. Plug it back in and theyre stuck on again. I tested the switch (continuity test and resistance); all looks good (0-1kohm).  On talking to AVS; found its because of the rubber stopper on the brake pedal; sure enough the middle of it is missing so have ordered a new one. One of those wear items; which was confusing what was going on However when I try unplugging the STOP Light fuses (under the dash and under the hood) the brake light still stays on. Should those fuses not cut the brake light circuit?  I then checked the ECU; FP Speed Error.  Testing the pump again; I can hear the relay clicking every time I switch it to ON. I unplugged the pump and put the multimeter across the plug. No continuity; im seeing 0.6V (ECU signal?) and when it switches the relay I think its like 20mA or 200mA). Not seeing 12.4V / 7-9A. As far as I know; the Fuel Pump was wired through one of the immobiliser relays on the old alarm.  He pulled some thick gauged harness out with the old alarm wiring; which looks to me like it was to bridge connections into the immobilisers? Before it got immobilised it was running just fine.  Im at a loss to why the FP is getting no voltage; I thought maybe the FP was faulty (even though I havent even done 50km on the new pump) but no voltage at the harness plug.  Questions: Could it be he didnt reconnect the fuel pump when testing it after the old alarm removal (before installing the new alarm)?  Is this a case of bridging to the brake lights instead of the fuel pump circuit? It's a bit beyond me as I dont do a lot with electrical; so have tried my best to diagnose what I think seems to make sense.  Seeking advice if theres for sure an issue with the alarm install to get him back here; or if I do infact, need an auto electrician to diagnose it.
    • Then, shorten them by 1cm, drop the car back down and have a visual look (or even better, use a spirit level across the wheel to see if you have less camber than before. You still want something like 1.5 for road use. Alternatively, if you have adjustable rear ride height (I assume you do if you have extreme camber wear), raise the suspension back to standard height until you can get it all aligned properly. Finally, keep in mind that wear on the inside of the tyre can be for incorrect toe, not just camber
    • I know I have to get a wheel alignment but until then I just need to bring the rear tyres in a bit they're wearing to the belt on the inside and brand new on the outside edge. I did shorten the arms a bit but got it wrong now after a few klms the Slip and VDC lights come on. I'd just like to get it to a point where I can drive for another week or two before getting an alignment. I've had to pay a lot of other stuff recently so doing it myself is my only option
