just check your insurance...

it would be a shame if you were paying out the a$$ for insurance and then you wrote the car off and the insurance company won't pay because you are driving a restricted car...

...but I am sure all you P platers have checked with your insurance companies already...............

just cars insured me no worries... and im sure they are well aware of the implemented restrictions. they also know what mods it has etc....

Yep - thats the risk you take, sometimes they pay, sometimes they don't.

Being that you are breaking the law by driving the car, the insurance company has every right to refuse to pay out in the event of an accident.

On the other hand - I know of several people who have claimed (while breaking power to weight laws) and got $$ no worries.

But will they pay up if you stack....?

yes, they've payed me before.

exactly. so sif keep making these sorts of threads. its been covered like 11 billion times and its the same answers every time. you CAN drive an R33 gts-t on your P's, im proof you can so other are members on here. but its a RISK you take, if you get pulled over and fined for power to weight. bad luck.

that is all.

Just drive it man! I bought my 180sx about 2 months before I got off my P's, and it was modified too so it wouldn't have been under the power to weight ratio, and didn't cop any trouble whatsoever.

You'll be fine

Ey Shane

You would have been over the limit technically, but cops can only go on factory power/weight figures...so they couldn't have given you a fine for it.

Could have reemed you for anything else they wanted to though :)

Yeah the SR20DET 180's are a bit umm and ahh when it comes to the power/weight figures. Some people say its over some say it's under.

But yeah, definately reemed with a lot of other things :)

this might seem a bit stupid, but couldn't you get a dyno printout and showing that its how many kws atw and show that its under the power to weight ratio, even though its not, or does the power figure have to be from the crank???

they go by factory power and weight figures. not what your car actually puts out, or what some dyno sheet says.

Hmmm yeh the common story at the moment seems to be that cops are pretty lenient or ignorant of the power to weight ratio laws and p platers. So it's a minor risk a lot of people take, nevertheless its still a risk.

However, will this all change in June (i think thats when they come in) next year where p platers won't be legally allowed to drive any turboed cars whatsoever?

Do-Luck you were driving a car thats over power to weight for 2 months, i would be driving a car thats over power to weight for 3 years.

lol. dude, just buy one already if thats what you really want. like its been mentioned in every one of these threads, and the threads you've started about it. its illegal yes. but thats the risk you take... i've still got 2 yrs to go on P's, im not worried at all. if i get caught for power>weight so be it. thats my bad luck. but ive been pulled over hundreds of times for "random" checks and the p>w has never..ever... come up...

only if its turbo, im like. yeah. so. lol

yeeepp

thats for new P platers only. current P platers arent affected by that.

so if someone was to get an r33 gts for example, and they modified it so it was over the power to weight ratio, they can't fine you for driving a car thats over the power to weight, because according to the compliance plate it would be a non-turbo which is p-plate legal???

what part of " its based on FACTORY power-weight figures " didnt you understand?

if you got a GTS, and modded it to make more power. it wouldnt matter... coz a GTS is under.

Sorry i didnt read it properly.

But mate relax...no need to get hyped up over a simple question

Just wanted to confirm that..if its so hard to write your post above without having a go at me, let someone else answer it.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
