Im curious to know if what ive read and been told is bullshit or not. A bloke with a r33 gtst with a rb26 in it with alot of work done reckons with two hks gtxxxx or something arather rated at 360hp each can make 544rwkws or 730hp on a simple and conservative 1.2bar. Assume it has all supporting mods, mild camshafts(done @ tighe cams), std valves, port n polish(course finish, not polished), std manifolds in & out, a fairly thick metal hg, assume cr 8:1, running pump bp 98, motec m800.

I admit my understanding on twin setups like those in gtrs im unfamiliar with but turbos are turbos regardless, to me that amount of power is not accurate. Can anyone explain it or explain their setups if similar and what power they make. Perhaps offer some explanation for it. Not only that but the car can do 1:14s around the national track @ QR and incase people dont know v8 supercars do 1:12-1:13's commonly with quickest time recorded a 1:10 by tander. Whether thats accurate or not i cant say, its only what ive heard.

Im annoyed a little bit that the guy bagged our setup and why his is so perfect is what i want to know cause i cant see it being soo good. This is a information seeking mission but also venting my annoyance.

Cheers.

If you are referring to low mount turbos, then indeed you've been told rubbish and a simple check of the RB26 Turbo Upgrade thread stickied in this section would have answered your question.

I'm running the largest HKS-GTRS terbs (largest low mounts from HKS) on a fairly seriously built motor and can only achieve mid 500s rwhp.

Ive been through the 26 section before and seen the power figures...thats why i think its all bull. But i figured well just incase he has a heavier worked motor then say most others and thats why hes achieved that power or something out of the oridinary.

Gav what power are the GTRS rated at?

Obviously different dynos will give different power whether shootout mode or not and so on.

Gav what power are the GTRS rated at?

HKS rates them at 400PS each

Gav: What sort of boost were you running to produce ~550rwhp? Sounds like something is holding you back if thats the most you can squeeze out of them

Over 500rwkw on 1.2 bar? I highly doubt that :)

try another tuner gav and u might be suprised ;) with that setup and gtr-s and 28psi i'd expect more. :)

sell the gt rs turbos and go for a single HKS Z and u will need half the boost for the same power :)

no chance @ 1.2bar

thats all really :)

It could be possibly with the biggest trust offerings, but not pissy 360hp huffers.

dirtgarage made the power on race fuel dont forget, and around 370-380 on pulp which is the norm for 2530's...

IMO Gav, 2.8l + 28psi and every other nice bit of fruit... it doesnt equal 550rwhp unless something is severly holding you back

No - the dyno numbers that I'm producing on the GT-RS terbs are about right compared with others.

I believe DirtGarages's numbers (which are much higher than I've seen others publish) weren't produced on pump fuel from memory (correct me if I'm wrong).

Agree that the single T04Z is indeed a nice bit of kit, but now that I'm set up with the low mounts I'll stay with them. Presently fitting longer duration exhaust cam which should extend the top end some without hopefully not losing too much low down. Very little experimenting with cam timing so far, so should be interesting with some more dyno time.

EDIT: posted at the same time as R31Nismoid regarding race fuel.

The terbs and fuel system are set up for mid 500s awhp, so I really don't feel like I'm being "held back". The extra good bits are really just for reliability and longevity.

What the dyno graph doesn't really convey is the very broad spread of torque available which is what I set out to achieve - the main use being track days and motokhanas.

Cheers

pnblight is making those numbers almost (530-540hp from memory) with 2560r turbos and 2.6L bottom end and it aint on 28psi i know that much. and thats on pump fuel too

dirt garage's rb26 was on race fuel yes.

are u running 28psi with pump fuel???

I've only tried pump fuel.

Unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to catch up with Pete (pnblight) and go for a spin yet - hope to early next year when I'm back.

Did drive Adrian's JUN 2.7L with 25/30s fitted. Much of a muchness in response although I did feel that I had a greater top end.

Simon's 2.6L with the Garrett TO4Z is just nuts. Suprisingly, Not much difference in response but just crazy top end response.

doing dyno runs the last few days on a top secret car, big mods, and a t88-38k, 22 psi, 432rwkw. oh by the way, did anyone say lag ?

next step is to bottle it so the boost comes on quicker ! boo yah

Hardly surprising when the car is running a T88-38GK on a standard capacity RB26.

that is very interesting but doesn't really have anything to do with this thread now does it? hardly ground breaking news. a T88 GK makes 400kw!!!!111

I think some of you other guys need to let go of your stranglehold on dyno numbers. every dyno is different. if Gav is happy with his power and build then why keep poking at it? i would say his engine build would be one of the more serious ones on here so i dont think it's a matter of him having skimped on it. I don't know of many other HKS 2.8 litre strokers running GT-RS turbos kicking around aus.

    • perhaps i should have mentioned, I plugged the unit in before i handed over to the electronics repair shop to see what damaged had been caused and the unit worked (ac controls, rear demister etc) bar the lights behind the lcd. i would assume that the diode was only to control lighting and didnt harm anything else i got the unit back from the electronics repair shop and all is well (to a point). The lights are back on and ac controls are working. im still paranoid as i beleive the repairer just put in any zener diode he could find and admitted asking chatgpt if its compatible   i do however have another issue... sometimes when i turn the ignition on, the climate control unit now goes through a diagnostics procedure which normally occurs when you disconnect and reconnect but this may be due to the below   to top everything off, and feel free to shoot me as im just about to do it myself anyway, while i was checking the newly repaired board by plugging in the climate control unit bare without the housing, i believe i may have shorted it on the headunit surround. Climate control unit still works but now the keyless entry doesnt work along with the dome light not turning on when you open the door. to add to this tricky situation, when you start the car and remove the key ( i have a turbo timer so car remains on) the keyless entry works. the dome light also works when you switch to the on position. fuses were checked and all ok ive deduced that the short somehow has messed with the smart entry control module as that is what controls the keyless entry and dome light on door opening   you guys wouldnt happen to have any experience with that topic lmao... im only laughing as its all i can do right now my self diagnosed adhd always gets me in a situation as i have no patience and want to get everything done in shortest amount of time as possible often ignoring crucial steps such as disconnecting battery when stuffing around with electronics or even placing a simple rag over the metallic headunit surround when placing a live pcb board on top of it   FML
    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
