Hey All,

need to know a good battery place that might still be open.

over the last week and a half i wud be driving and if i used the high beam for example, the car would give a jerk and the stereo wud pause and come bak and i was thinking someting was wrong with the wiring. but yesterday it died and i had racv come in and then i took it for a drive for like a hour and then tested it and it was starting up alright. today evening i came in and again the battery is dead on its ass?

have anyone had those dunks when u turn high beams or sometimes it would do it even with a parking indicator? WTF@#($#(

anyway post up please witha battery place and any ideas on why it was doing it other than a kaput battery.

cheers

just replaced my battery. $115 440cca battery world wantirna although there are a few battery worlds around. didnt have to change terminals either still got the tiny pencil post ones.

like paul said once cars started put multimeter across battery (or jump start points in engine bay) should be at 14v. other test i got told to do was to charge battery, then leave it for 8hrs see if its holding charge. or if you cant be bother just check the voltage before you go to bed disconnect the negative terminal then check voltage in the morning.

not sure if this will set your alarm off though didnt for mine.

basically thats a good idea...

when flat...or new the charge will be at its max...I thought it was a bit higher than 14 on full charge..cos mine went flat a few weeksn back and I remeber it being higher for an initla peroid.

after running the battery in...check the voltage when its off. Make sure it looks cool. When check it in the morning. If the voltage has dropped over night and its new...you have something draining the battery..

I remember I went to my FTO a few months back and the battery was dead...thought it was wierd it just went. nyway went and got a new one and once installed I realised my wife had left the headlights on overnight...hahah anyway I have a spare now...

thanks for all the replies guys.

I went to kmart at burwood east and the guy there didnt have a clue about what was right.

so i had racv come in and replace the battery and he checked it with the multimeter and reckons its charging now.

will check it after a couple of days to see if its charging ok.

You know what is weird, my car had the same issue so they replaced the battery and then it did it again but since replacing the battery no issue... and when it was playing up they could not get the battery to loose charge, yet when I am driving along the freeway at 110km/h it managed to do it??

Drew.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
