put some more stickers on there callan, sure to give u the few extra kw u need for a 12

dont worry about the tune, although there are some "GREAT" tuners around (even on here lol), im sure a hks/trust sticker is enough

Ignoring this complete and utter f#%king tool...

Callan, if you want, when you come over to grab some parts, we can go for a run and I'll plug the datalogit in and have a look. You're welcome to have a look and play with your tune too, if you want me to drive. My mate tuned his car and I ended tweaking it a fair bit because he was too scared to put some timing in some areas that really count. Especially for you, on the drag strip. Just got to keep an eye on the knock. You'll find that it will knock at 10-20, but wont go any higher even if you add more timing. This is because knock isn't actually detonation or pre-ignition, its just a noise level at a specific frequency. If you use the right sized spanner, you can "emulate" that frequency and tap the engine, and make the knock sensors pick up knock while the car isn't even running. Remember these knock sensors where designed for a standard car and ECU. When you start really pushing the power envelope there is all this extra engine noise that may actually show up on the knock sensors, but may not be knock. I remember one dude, his car was knocking bad, up near 100, but there was barely any timing on the map. After having a look, there was a loose bracket vibrating like hell, setting the sensors off. Another example, on the XR6Ts, above 300rwkw they turn the knock sensors off, because they are too sensitive, and the ECU has a fit with all the knock it thinks it is seeing, and retards the shit out of the timing.

I can also show the the areas that are more prone to knock than others due to the loading on acceleration, and areas where it helps bringing on boost earlier etc.

Those areas can also benefit from extra fuel, as you don't always just stick to 12:1 afrs etc. Some areas will run better with 11.5:1 and extra timing, to help with spool. Also, you're actually able to run more timing high in the rev range because the engine is spinning hard, with plenty of momentum, and has less weight load.

Lots of variables. I'm happy to show you how its done. After a while you just get a feel of it. Now I can usually get the AFRs close to where I want them after 2-3 runs, as once looking at the numbers, you can see if you need a bit extra or less, and just have a feel on how much of the injector correction to add or take.

One other thing - I can also show you an area where you can tweak the dwell times of the coil packs a little harder, giving the coils more time to store more charge, giving you a slightly bigger spark. I know how high you can go safely. Too high will burn out coil packs. I run a specific setting in mine for about 3-4 years and never had an issue at all.

Yeah might be good to learn a few things. There's a few places I know I need to fix up, especially where it comes on to boost as I want it to be a bit more fueley and run a bit more timing there.

Once I fix up my wiring for my wideband it will properly dump the AFR's straight into map watch, it does this already but the earth point to my FC-Hako is not where it should be so I don't trust the values to much (but they are pretty close anyway

As for knock, well I'm pretty sure my sensors are wrecked or picking up some random noise as it registered 61 knock the other day when I had been off throttle (no braking or clutch either) for a whole second or more. There shouldn't be any knock at that point, right after foot off the gas I might consider it engine noise registering as knock but not after parts have already begun decelerating

Theres more things to make me think my knock sensors are wrecked but I won't go into it. Inconsistency is one of the main reasons but

Lean cruise AFR's are what I'm looking at ATM. Been getting good fuel economy since my last little tweak but it still needs a bit more work at certain speeds but so far my fuel needle is still on F and ive done just over 100km, it will plummet soon but :P

As for the coilpack dwell, I'm interested to learn it, not sure how far I want to push it given the way ive been f**ked over for money in the last few weeks.

That's enough iPhone typing...... That shit is annoying haha

well, Dysonest just proves more and more that he is a complete tool.

If you love it, good for you

I don't really give a shit. But, I've had 6 PMs so far from all different people so far asking "Who the tosser Dysonest is"

I have no idea and don't care. Its just one more person that wont get invited to decent car gatherings, with decent cars and people . Its also a good way to get less help when something goes wrong.

Anyway Callan, happy to show you what I know.

jono "IF" and im saying if anything does go wrong... ur the last person i would be asking for help. my mum would be able to offer more help.

as for ppl sending u a PM askin who i am. im sure they would realise next time i see them and i tell them.....

but why would they pm u asking who i am ?? wouldnt they pm me ?

seems alittle backwards if u ask me

Believe it or not they are. You seem to be good at pissing people off. They just couldn't be f**ked dealing with you because they are right, they are telling me you're a waste of time and not to worry.

And, well, I wouldnt help you if you asked. Simply because you act like a 9 year old.

Also Nice to know your mum can build twin cam rb30s and tune vipec, Powerfc and link. Maybe you should cancel your account and she can sign up.

I've got better things to do than deal with your shit. Like having good chats with my mates right here, and things were going quite smoothly right to the point where you started posting.

I'm a guy that loves this sport, helps anyone I can that isn't a tosser, and shares my knowledge.

You come to simply be a wanker, and give no input at all. Sounds to me for a recipe for failure at life.

You're f**king my thread so any more shit from you and I'll start reporting your posts.

Done.

The need to constantly stir other people to try and look cool, and to make you feel better about yourself gets tiring. Its actually pathetic, unintelligent, and I feel sorry for you. But you choose to be like this so it's your problem.

And trust me - No one is laughing. The thread has actually gone quiet because of your posts. Might be time to grow up.

I know for a fact ppl are laughing and they laugh with me. This thread hasn't gone quite at all nor does it look like it will. As long as ppl keep posting no matter what it is, this thread will live. As for posting anything i want, i can. Its the internet and i can do what i like as u would know .....

Oh, and laugh all you want, but carefully who you assume "are laughing with you", as I know you are lying because quite a few have PM'd me personally. They say you're a wanker, and to ignore you so why would they be laughing with you? You've been caught flat out lying I'm afraid.

yeap, and as I said, if you need to post crap in order to feel better about yourself, then do as you wish. But there are other threads to post your pathetic dribble. We're all grown up here, and have good honest mature fun. You are a loser, and there are special areas for you.

Keep posting shit, you're only reinforcing the fact that you are a smart assed d!ckhead.

iphone typing sucks, I'm surprised I haven't got angry and smashed mine a few times. I learn to just put it down and walk away before I want to break it. lol.

What type of wideband do you have? I've got mine wired directly into the FC-Datalogit to do exactly that - Dump the AFRs into the map watch. Makes life a lot easier when logging, and changing AFRs later on. I've also got a very complicated excel spreadsheet that you just copy and paste your map into, AFR readings, and amount of "cell hit" into. It actually calculates your new Fuel map for you. I'ev managed to bring most tunes to about 90% where I want them with this.

You just go for a longish run, save the logs, copy and paste, then paste the result fuel map back into the powerfc. I'm surprised that they haven't made an auto tune out of this yet. Its really handy for the boring and menial areas of the map.

It gets the full load areas close, but they always need a touch up.

I feel your pain with the sensors, I used to get 30 - 50 knock just cranking the car. Its just noise they are picking up from somewhere. Maybe a bracket that is loose, or just unlucky with a mount and the way its attached to the car, which rattles and makes knock. It resonates through the chassis.

I've mucked around with cruising fuel economy so much, its a pain in the ass. Once you've got that big turbo and injectors, you're screwed. They drink like fish and there is nothing you can do about it unless you never make boost, and drive REALLY steady.

But, you simply can't. No point in owning a modified car then really :P

Coilpack dwell - I ran these settings for years so I doubt they will cause you any issues.

I'm pretty keen to see the rest of my setup running again. One of my best mates bought the lot - Engine, Manifolds, Turbo, Exhaust, Intake pipes, Injectors, Fuel Pump, etc etc. He had an issue with the RB25DET and decided to remove it, and never got back to it. He's got a 1997 R33 GTS-T.

Only difference is that he has a Vipec Plug in, with a map sensor. I've had a lot of fun with the Vipecs, and I was planning on changing the powerFC with a Vipec one day so that I could run the water meth kit from the ECU, and put extra monitoring on etc. I wanted to install an exhaust temp sensor, MAP sensor, Inlet air temp sensor, and low water radiator sensor. I hate the fact that if you dump the water really quickly and the guage hasn't got time to react, it just stays where ever it was. Also wanted an oil temp sensor.

This way when racing at Warwick Raceway I could tell it to shut off if things went sour. Its a fair bit of stress to put on it, and I wanted to make sure everything was safe.

Can't wait to see it running again, and I even get to tune it so it will be like I never let it go :)

Doesn't matter anyway, made a few calls about a GTR today. Hoping to get some time to organise it and have it before Xmas.

Then all the modding starts....all over again..lol. Its going to be a bit of a learning curve too, as I've never owned a GTR before. Tuned quite a few though. I'm more scared on choosing turbos, clutches, suspension etc.

dont try make urself big by calling me a loser and a wanker, and as for being carefull as to who i assume "are laughing with me". mackay is full of 2 faced ppl....

feel free to say who "quite a few" have pm'd you. i would laugh

it doesnt concern me. i dont have a tally as to how many friends i made today by tellin them how awesome i am

i also know im a smart ass.. ever think that i knew and this is why i am like this ?

I don't need to feel big, I'm quite content. Just being honest. If you read your posts, you are not contributing to the discussion whatsoever. Just being a loser.

Its all good though, I'm not even going mention names and waste their time dragging them into it. I'm sure if they wanted, they'd speak up. But, you're not worth the time. They showed their support for me, and I appreciate that. Thanks guys.

And yes, you're really awesome. Good to hear. Keep telling yourself that too. I bet you drive down the main street, trying to make your Atmo BOV go off when you see the ladies.

hahahahaha just goes to show what u know jono, u realy are the man. f**k i wish i was even half as cool as u...

and i contribute, i told callan to put some stickers on his car... is this not contributing ??

maybe u too could put some stickers on ur ummm....... bedroom door ;)

hey, I never mentioned sucking c0ck. Seems to be on your mind. You'd definitely have to be thinking about it to mention it. Ben and Kingy are good lads, if you want to take what I said literally, good for you. I'm sure there are homosexual forums somewhere around for people like you.

Keep going mate, you're just too funny. They are all laughing remember?

seem to be... and i know they are good lads. and i dont need a homosexual forum when ur here jono.

even though there is nothing wrong with ur sexuality mate, all the best to you. just remember to cover up, dont want u "catchin a cold"

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
