You're spoilt with choice at that price...

Mitsubishi EVO VIII MR

Mazda Series 8 RX-7

Toyota Supra

Nissan R33 GTR

Nissan S15 Silvia

Plus many more imports...

But it doesn't have to be an import...

Ford Focus XR5

Renault Clio Sport

Holden Monaro

Ford XR6 Turbo

Subaru Forester XT

Subaru WRX

Might be able to stretch for something like...

Audi S4 biturbo

Audi S8

E36 BMW M3

Volkwagen Golf GTi

i'm with you all the way, in the earlier post he said he wants an everyday car, i really dont see an FD or S2000 as an everyday car, especially when a GT-R wasnt considered to be one.

XR6T + 5k performance mods (300rwkw) + nice sound system = killer everyday car!

glad im not the only one, i was temped to buy one recently, 70kms on clock, bbs rims, red leather retrim, silver manual and clean as... 29k or something.... lovely!

Stick 5 mates in it, a case of beer, surfboards on the roof, eksys and camping shit in the boot and still rip the shit out of ALOT on the road :)

I had a similar budget at the start of the year, and needed a daily. I tossed up between:

Liberty B4

Audi S3

MB C36 AMG

BMW E36 M3

Audi S2

HSV VX Clubsport

Bug eye STi

I ended up going for the Clubbie and I'm happy with my choice. This V8 business is alright! It's quick, comfortable, looks good (imo), and can tow my 180. Couldn't ask for more.

Nissan Cima's. the newer ones they are bringing in, not 100% sure on price though.

I think the cima 300gs start at about 30k for a cheap one right up to 60k for a 450vip. Massive difference in the same model hey. I saw one when I picked up my car from compliance, pure luxury inside. The vibrating seats get me.

perfect choices but not in any particular order.

Let it be said any of them would blow you away. Though here's my personal preference reasons:

1st Choice Evo 8 MR

1586061.jpg

There was an Evo 8 MR on jspec going for 35 though you'd prob be looking a few grand more. This particular one is way too much (already in OZ) though it's a looker and good to see how porn these cars can look, note the evo 9 front bumper that you can buy aftermarket.

Watching a lot of BMI videos I started noticing how well the Evo's were doing even when pitted up against R34 GTR's and NSX's. There are heaps of races where they took it out or came second from a near back of the pack race. Sure the smaller tsukuba track might have slowed the gtr's.. though it's nothing to sneeze at and I'm pretty sure the lap record there is held by an Evo.

Interior - well whilst not up to European specs and some say not quite as good as the new sti.. though I've had a look in a few from dealerships and they are svelt! In a different league to the 33 GTR naturally with the age difference.

2nd Choice RX7 S8

spirit r pic.. but you get the drift

Now you couldn't argue with the saucy looks. I've always wanted one, though perhaps it's because I bought an FC early this year that I've fed some of that enthusiasm for a rotar. Also I think the Evo can hold it's own in the aesthetics sakes especially when going for that JDM look.. but ultimately the RX7 is still a classy beast and in the end of the day should win on appearance no matter what.

Performance wise they can own race tracks from factory.. though some could be forgiven for wanting more torque down low, I'm sure some of the rotary owners and readers on this forum may suggest that this can be addressed.. though it's still a factor in my books. But Power can be made very easy on these motors, and now having owned an FC for a while I wont have a bar of all that "rotaries are unreliable crap.' If you don't service, don't warmup and cool down and abuse them then they will break.. but so will the longevity of any car.

Being rear wheel drive will concern some and excite others, though when all is said and done you will be scared in the wet when compared to the other two and getting it off the line takes a whole bunch more skill to even stay close the the other two. On the other hand FR is the ultimate layout for purists.

Interior is good, could be an issue for taller drivers. I'd say not as nice as the evo, though I've never seen inside a s8 in person so I could be corrected there. Also looks a little bit plasticy (i've also heard that about the evo) I'm sure both use much cheaper spec plastics than any luxo european car out there.

Can get leather though.

3rd R33 GTR V-spec

You all know what a 33 looks like.

Sure I wanted this car so hard for good many years, managed to get a worked R32 gtr instead of which I loved.. though start of this year she detonated and that's all she wrote. If it would have been 1 or 2 years earlier than today I'd have upgraded to the 33.. though things have moved along in the auto world and as like someone said I can slightly see the 33 showing a little age when compared to 2002+ cars. This won’t mean a thing to some of you but that’s your choice.

Power wise we'll this is where the GTR comes into it's own. Down low power and top end performance enough said. This has been playing on my mind as in the next few months I'm going to be importing the evo.. and 2l 4 cylinders starts to ring out will it have that awesome rip you into the back of your seat I experienced in the 32?

Interior - well already mentioned, as they are older cars.

As your all already skyline owners with a good number of guys out there with R32 GTR's, it's a healthy take on things to look at other HPI's. Some will be Nissan die hards.. then your choice is easy, I personally would like to diversify.

Food for thought.

the other HPI's out there and Euro's as people have already posted I haven't wanted to own as badly as the above mentioned.. Supra only just scraped out.

Nice post Conrad :D

I can confirm the FD is a squeeze for taller people, but it can be done, just avoid australian delivered Series 6's as they all had sunroofs.

I preferred the interior of it to the EVO though. I like the EVO interior, but it does feel cheap, but so does my car.

I have test driven all 3 cars listed above and all are great cars, and I'd happily own any of them.

Nice post but I have to disagree with you here. I believe MR is the ultimate layout for a track car.

Sure noted.. I was really talking about all the great road FR's proven by the past, though your right a mid engine car should ultimately be the track layout of choice.

omg so many choices

i like luxo barge as much as i like performance imports, nothing like riding in VIP style

i would choose either

-chaser

-aristo

-gs300

-century (do a search on wikipedia u will be like OMG)

-crown if they can be imported to aus

-ae86 trueno for pure wank factor and then spend the other 25000 on making it a track god

could go on all day

    • The fab work can be as simple as a couple of silicon hoses and clamps to the factory piping.
    • Just sounds like either way you need to do some fab work to get everything to fit, so why limit yourself at that point? If the GCG high flow option is zero effort in and out swap though I'd probably do that. It's almost certainly lowest risk, lowest cost, etc. The HKS GTIII-RS option that Kapr mentioned is laughably expensive for what it is, they charge the exact same for two turbos on the RB26 so their margins are off the charts on that thing.
    • Intake manifold is not a part of the issue. The turbo bolts to the exhaust manifold. That is easy. But close your eyes and picture the physical situation. That is a T3 flange on the manifold and a T3 flange on the turbo. As long as any new turbo has a T3 flange on the exhaust housing, that exhaust housing will bolt to the exhaust manifold. This places the exhaust housing in the same place as the stock one. But now move your mental attention a little further forward. The location of the compressor housing is set by the length of the turbo's core. The stock turbo had a long core. Let's say that it is..... 100mm long. So that would place the compressor housing 100mm forward of the exhaust housing. But a highflow, might well have a centre core that is shorter. Let's say that it is only 70mm long. Now the compressor housing will be 30mm further back in the engine bay than the stock one. This DOES move the turbo's compressor outlet backwards. It also moves the compressor's inlet backwards. You will very likely have to do some work to both the inlet and outlet piping to make everything connect again. I am not say this to make it out to be a bigger deal than it is. I am just pointing out that "bolt on" is sometimes not quite bolt on. The highflow from GCG that Murray linked above (https://gcg.com.au/turbo-charger-upgrade-skyline-gtst-2iu-xtrgts-s1.html ) uses a core that is the same length as the stock core, and so does not require this extra work. It will look very much like the stock turbo. No-one uses GTR turbos of any flavour (stock, or aftermarket) in a single turbo application on RB20/25. It's not a thing. Yes, people have been putting on GT3076, GTX3076 (and bigger and smaller versions of those) and G30s (of various sizes) onto RB20/25 since forever. But these are not "bolt on". Everything except the 4 bolts to the exhaust manifold change with these. And genuine Garretts are expensive. Non-gen, like Pulsar, etc, are cheaper, variously as good or nearly as good. But still not bolt on. No-one in the right mind would pay for an HKS turbo. Not in this modern day and age. Well, yes, the GCG highflow. You could ask HG what he can do to make the compressor housing sit in the original location. There are surely others doing highflows around the world. And some of the eBay/Temu ones (as reported by Dose) work and don't die. Bit of a lottery though. I would send your turbo to GCG (here in Oz) to be highflowed if you want a trivial no-extra-work option. But seriously, the work required to change inlet and outlet piping is not that hard. That's a boost control problem, not a turbo problem.
    • Thank you all for the replys 🙂 I know that intake would be different but that is one pipe at it is not that hard to get(custom one). I meant mainly bolt to the stock manifold and the turbo elbow. I looked and many sites/forums but they are just "old" with some old HKS turbos from GT-R i guess? What about some Garrets?  Or any other turbo? Is there even a turbo which i can just bolt on? 😄 And yeah i know about that new HKS but that is like 2000k USD without taxes/shipping in here   Iam getting a touch up tune but my "problem" is that on the "not" hot day iam getting peaks around 0,9 bar...and when it was around 15 Celsious i saw peak around 1 bar which is just too much for stock turbo. And of course turbo is old and i like to get some new one for a piece of mind 🙂
    • I'm working on the assumption that our friend Jasmine here is a Russian (or, possibly Ukrainian) spammer/spambot, based purely on the number of such that I have been having to neuter in the last few weeks. IP address for the OP above was in WA. But that could have been via VPN. Posting at quarter to 4 in the morning is a good sign of being from somewhere in Europe. The last Jasmine that I kicked in the cooch was IP addressed in Ukraine. Even that could have been via VPN, and the bitchbot could have been from Russia, Serbia, China or anywhere. Regardless, was a spambot, so I killed it with fire. The fact that our new friend Jasmine here did not respond in any way to my tart query strongly suggests to me that this OP was just the establishment phase of a user able to be activated for spamming in a week, or 3 or 10.
