I have a fujitsubo 3inch cat back and it sounds good. But all other skylines i hear sound angrier and throatier, not to mention louder. Why is this? Will a dump/front pipe make my car sound better? Im after the cool RB sound that is unmistakable. Anyone got any suggestions?

CHEERS

Do you have a cat?

Ans:

NO: Then probably make no differance

YES, but std:This will be drastically restricting flow, thus will be suffocating engine and robbing you of power.

I myself use a legal hi-flow cat.

My car gets very angry in traffic and yells its head off when it finally breaks free.

I like the noise but the resinating in the car sometimes gives me a head-ache.... ;)

If you want load and angry.....straight through custom 3" pipe and hot dog with no silencer.

If this is too load get a 3"resinator put on like me.

;)

Mine was just a split dump, cat then straight through to cannon.

I had to have a resonator added , the drone in the cabin was just far too unbearable. When you hit the right rpm the whole cabin would just vibrate.

No not yet but wouldnt that make it quieter?

In all probability, no.

Most mufflers work by slowing down the exhaust gas. Taking energy out of the exhaust stream reduces the noise it generates when it exits. I'm sure you've noticed that most aftermarket exhausts that are less restrictive also tend to be louder than stock.

If the cat is less restrictive to flow, its also muffling less.

I had a JASMA certified Fujitsubo cat back with centre muffler/resonator and final oval muffler with standard dump/front/cat and it was also noticably quiet when putting arond but had a deep clean note when opened up. Anything but a bark. You'll notice a lot of the cars you see with a "bark" are NA.

Dont know about other aftermarket Jap systems but what I noticed with my Fujitsubo system was that it was extremely heavy due to the fact that it was extremely thick steel, which I think helped quiet it down. I reckon it would of been 3mm thick, if not more easily as it had a decent chunk taken out in one part at least 2mm deep and it had not made close to a hole.

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
    • Yeah, saw the ratios, not impressed. Would like the punch I have in the first gears now. With those ratios it won't be the same.  Also want the h pattern gearing, or at least a quiet gear set that don't need to come apart for service each year. Looks like the only "reasonable" way Is a 8hp70 transmission, but where is the fun in that🤷‍♂️
    • Hey mate, really appreciate the help. Have been looking pretty extensively myself and was certain they were retro fitted, but then ended up finding a 4 door with what looks like the same side skirts or at least the closest I’ve seen.
