Type M Pods, Are They Chunky Enough With Gt-r Skirts?

Hi everyone. I've been searching for about a week now for some pods for my R33 & the only ones I've come across (on line) that I like are the Type M ones. My biggest dielema is that I don't know if they will sit low enough to achieve the look that I want, as the GT-R skirts I've already got on the car do hang lower than the standard Type M factory units. I've included a couple of picture to show what I mean:

The difference in height between the front end and these skirts is fairly minimal & I can't put anything much lower on it without it getting ripped off (very sharp driveway entry), but the back just looks a bit out of proportion as it is.

If anyone can help with pictures of how they look on their car or possibly alternatives it would be greatly appreciated. I need to get this soughted out ASAP as need to get my car fixed after I got rear ended last week so am getting the pods done at the same time.

EDIT:

I have since seen a couple of dodgy pairs that guys locally have been good enough to show me (not fitted) as well as a pair of the Trust GRacer pods, which are a bit bigger & more suitable than the standard Type M ones & do look quite nice.

What I need now is a couple of deacent pics of some quality GT-R style (& also if I'm lucky GRacer) ones that people have on their car. One Rear on shot & one low side on shot of anyone's car that has them fitted would be greatly appreciated & will be a good aid to my final decision. There seem to be a few variations on the GT-R style skirts so if you could tell me where you got them from too it would be appreciated.

Cheers

GTR rear pods are chunky. Standard GTS-t rear pods are quite understated.

I dont know how hard it would be to get the GTR pods to fit up to a GTSt but itd be worth investigating. Maybe it's been done before and carmate sell them off the shelf.

The pic Secur1ty linked from Carmate has GTR rear pods shown on it. These were originally OEM parts that Carmate probably copied somewhere along the line. OEM ones are pricey but copies are probably cheap.

sorry mate, but do you mean sideskirts?

ive got the same dilemma!

ive decided to go for the GTR sideskirts on my car.

heres a pic of the GTR sideskirts ive ripped off the carmate website:

You may want to take another look at the pictures of my car, it already has GT-R style side skirts on it. The picture you supplied from carmate also has the GT-R pods.

I'm personally not so sure I like these with the wrap around finish. They're not bad, just think they're a bit fussy with the wrap around finish. I like nice clean lines, & I'm fussy as hell, which is why I started this thread :D

the R33 GTR, as far as anything i've seen, has the exact same side skirts as the GTS-T (show me the difference in them to prove me wrong), so there is no such thing as GTR style R33 sideskirts...they're the same as the GTS-T imo.

There is also plenty of GTR's with the regular R33 pods, that dont continue around the back of the bar....I'd say the ones pictured above were an option from factory.

Ok well the GT-R skirts are definantely different. Unlike the GTS-t (Type M) skirts they have a much more heavily scolloped section underneath the doors that then blends in at either end, & have a definite bow shape to their lower edge where as the GTS-t's are virtually straight. They also hang out a fair bit further than GTS-T skirts, something several people have commented on. Here's a few extra photo's to help illustrate what I mean:

Now if you've ever seen the Type M Pods you will know that they also don't have the scolloped shape that the GT-R ones do & hence my dielema.

I have now seen what the Type M pods look like on my car & while they hang low enough I am unsure about the look as far as how wide they hang out & that they are not scolloped.

My problem with the GT-R pods, is that while they have the nice scolloped out shape that starts at the guard I'm not sure that I'm a real fan of the extention that wraps around on to the rear bumper rather than just blending in to & finishing where the rear bar begins.

Ideally if I could find a set of pods that are scolloped but finish at the rear bar I would be infinately happy, however I may be forced to pick from what's available or go custom. Though I haven't priced that yet....

  • 2 weeks later...

In the first photo of your car they just looked like factory type-m skirts. But now I can see the difference... especially at the bottom of the skirt. To be honest it's still only a subtle difference though. I think that factory style type-m rear pods will still suit the overall look of your car fine.

Here's how mine look with factory type-m rear pods and sideskirts anyway:

Yeah you don't appreciate how much wider they are until you actually see the car, type M skirts you can get away with the stock wheels, the GT-R style ones though make the car look more like a hovercraft. It does make it more awkward to get in & out of, but a small price to pay .

Thanks for the picture, the GRacer ones I'm looking actually hang a bit lower while still blending in, which I think is just nice. Confirms that the Type M pods are still a fairly high style pod.

Still would like to see a couple of GT-R pods before I make my decision though.

Edit: Saw a really good pair of GT-R style pods on a 33 last night & took a few photos so pictures are no longer required. Cheers
