A few people have shown an interest in my new little toy - the Orange TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) and wanted to know more about it. I must admit I first heard about it fro Jeff Beable who runs one in his Targa car - but then also was shown 1st hand the effectiveness of them on the Maserati Quattroporte James and I drove which told me about the flat tyre before I realised.

I'll have it on the car this weekend at DECA to get a real feel for how good it is but basically it's a little gadget which has sensors fitted inside all 4 tyres which then provide information on both tyre pressure and tyre temperature to you live in your car. You can also set "alarm" points for low tyre pressure and high temperatures.

I got mine from Bit Distribution in Bayswater for $315 - Bit Distribution

In the last 12 months or so I've managed to delaminate a number of semi-comps on the skidpan basically from over heating - so I'm hoping this will help stop me from doing that. Also - earlier in the year I destroyed a tyre from driving on it flat (sidewalls were so hard I didn't realise it was flat until it was too late).

So pretty much if this thing can save me 1 tyre it will pay for itself. Also it means I don't have to get out and check each tyre regaularly on the track and can also get a better understanding of how quickly tyre temps come up and go down on the track because I can see all the data live. It will also show me if my tyres are overheating due to excess wheel spins on the skidpan.

More information on the unit is available from thr Orange Website here - Orange TPMS

Hey Snowy

Ive had TPMS on my 34 for the past 12 months, its a very handy gadget :P

Mine is a little bit different as it displays all tyres at the same time, its seems the one you have displays one at a time

Ive attached a pic of the display, note pic shows tyre pressure in bar but is selectable to psi

Cheers

actually as Snowy said, I had the issue of driving on some low profiles and it was flat and I didn't know....wellldidn't know until I went around a corner and the tyre came off and I just missed an oncomming truck as I span out...not cool.

Details would be great,

One of these would have been handy when my tyre went down through the flip flop at calder!

hey guys

The TPMS i have is direct from the manufacture, i did extensive R & D for more than 6 months on this product alone working in conjuction with the manufacture to get his product 100% (ie software bugs)

If people are intrested in the product, i can try and find out some prices if needed

In the 12 months i have been using it, its never failed once

hey mate

details...who makes them and roughly how much. where are they located?

the other one Snowman posted is pretty wicked though. Reading through the install manual it looks pretty easy.

Hey Snowy...does the trasmitter sit around the existing tire valve..i.e. the valve stick through...I couldn't work that out. I saw they installed it from inside...not sure how its gonna look I wouldn't mind I pic. The dispay unit looks tops though.

    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
    • If there's oil in with the clutch, I hope it finds its way out even if that hole has a cover/grommet 😛 I don't want oil near my cars clutch! 😛 Interested to hear the answer about covering it, I'm assuming a bung for a gearbox from another car that has a grommet to suit.
