One of my HKS 2530's crapped out so in need of some replacement turbo's as I can't rebuilt my single turbo due to the turbine being damaged...unfortunatey the other one is brand new.

I have seen very good reports on the Apexi AX series with p21 housing, which is said to have less lag than 2530's and make more power at less boost.

I haven't seen any results of the GTRS apart from on a 2.8ltr

Can anyone shed some light on these...

GTRS have a larger lag than the 2530's.

You also cannot run two different turbo's ....so if you are looking to replace the one .....you have no choice but to buy a single 2530 or -5 in Garret as they go by.

A couple of options here depending on what else is damaged on that HKS GT2530 . IF its turbine housing is was not damaged a reasonably cheap way to get a virtually new turbo would be to buy the Garrett -5 or which ever is the 2530 equal cartridge (CHRA) and swap compressor wheels . The rest of the cartridge is the same as a 2530 (same turbine and bearing/housing assembly) . Fit the 2530's 63 trim compressor , balance and refit the 2530's housings . GCG or Garrett should be able to do this for you .

Cheers A .

make sure you find the reason for the failure and fix before you fit the new one....be sure the oil lines are clear of blockages (this is what killed ours and several others)

You beat me to it - definately find out the root cause of the failure and certainly check the other terb carefully before assuming it's OK as well.

all valid points, just to clear a few things up tho.

the turbine is damaged meaning it needs a new shaft, mine is a 707160-21 meaning it is an obsolete part.

I stated I will be replacing "turbo's" (plural) so no I won't be trying any new sequential setup, lol

The -5 is smaller by .5mm than the 2530 so is automatically out for me.

The turbo was on its way out already however I will definitely check the oil feed, from what i can see 22psi with above average shaft play caused imbalance and excessive wear

A single 2530 will cost me $2300, I would rather sell my new 2530 and the housings from the stuffed turbo to purchase and improved set. I am very very keen on the Apexi AX series, I have seen very good results on every car they were fitted. 1 bar ~400rpm earlier than a 2530 and 60ps more at the same boost. The AIRICK design is far advanced over HKS. The same compressor size is more efficient- more flow and less heat. Nengun are adding them to there catalogue for me.

I thought the -5's are the same as the 2530.....maybe they are the old type ......or they have been modified.

Find out why this happened then replace them both.........

The Replacement Turbo's (-5)should only cost you 2500 for the pair...

Who is selling one for 2300?

Anyway good luck with your choice.

For the record the complete GT2530 may not be available but its only unique part was its 63 trim 60mm GT30 compressor . If you bought the -5 cartridge its should be identical to the 2530's except for a slightly smaller trim (62) and tip height compressor . Its turbine and shaft IS the same . Buy , swap comp wheels , balance , done .

Its not impossible that the -5 cartridges may suit you better than the 2530's if they were a tad lazy for you . The GT2530 is a HKS optioned Garrett GT2860R and an older one at that .

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
