Hey guys thinking about getting my engine rebuilt and while its out i thought i may well have a look at upgrading my turbo seeing as though the ceramic wheel 17yr old one probably isnt going to take to well to having extra air thrown at it. Im aware of all the dont go above 14psi and you should be right sort of deal but this turbo is getting kinda old now and id rather get it sorted while the engine is out. Anyone got any thoughts on rebuilds\hi flows with steel wheels or going with an r33gtst or 34 turbo?? are the r34 turbo wheels ceramic as well?

Obviously i would be looking to get a re tune but im still looking to stay within the stock fuel injector level with maybe looking at getting an upgraded pump.

Thanks ;)

Any after market turbo you get is going to be able to pump more air than stock injectors can handle. You can always keep the boost down but where's the fun in that?

If you're going to spend the money on a rebuild, spend some on injectors as well.

sinistagtst is right. this has been covered plenty of times. try the search button and ull get lotsa info.

im currently am doing a rebuild of my rb26dett in my 32 gtr at the moment. doing all my research now and ill be getting it started around march next year.

from what ive figured out, to figure out what turbo suits u the best u need to figure out what the car will be used for mainly and what kinda power figure u want.

im guessing at the moment for around 300 to 400 awkw with stuff all lag. i hate lag. ive decided on getting the hks gt-ss turbos. they would suit me the best i think.

a lot of people that i talk to say that its not worth just upgrading to a better stock turbo. eg: 34gtr turbo. u may as well spend the little extra and get a way better turbo

my 2c

Not looking to get much more power only round the 160rwkw 180rwkw thats why i wasnt going to go to aftermarket. I dont want a race car just wanted a little more kw for my road car that gets maybe 3 or 4 track days a year!

Stock injector wont limit your power with a highflow so go for it.

Cheers for your 2c nib.

Nizmoid I always use the search engine how ever i must be a complete rookie cause if i search this thread for r32 i get no results!!!! So sifting through 26 pages of posts when i type in turbo kinda gets boring

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
