Bourne's Injures Worse Than Thought

New Zealand rally ace Possum Bourne was more severely injured in Good Friday's crash than was first thought.

His family made a special announcement at 7pm this evening.

The rally driver has been in a medically induced coma in Dunedin Hospital since April 18th.

Bourne was injured in a serious car crash when he was checking out the course for the Race to the Sky mountain climb near Wanaka.

Subaru spokesman John Coker says he suffered a severe brain injury at the initial incident, and doctors have managed his treatment very actively until now.

However, the full extent and severity of the injury has only become clear over the last weekend, when medical staff decreased ventilation support.

Mr Coker says Bourne's condition deteriorated and doctors had to put him back on full life support.

The family says his condition has been re-evaluated today, and a brain scan carried out.

They say that confirms the original injury was very severe.

The family says continuing full life support is no longer in the driver's best interests.

so so sad....I thought he would improve...and then this happens :)

"It was a very difficult decision for everyone, but in the end it is in the interests of Possum," said a close friend of the driver, Murray Brown.

"He hasn't been alone the whole time he's been in hospital and he certainly won't be now. We're all just numb. His chance of survival is virtually nil."

story here

I don't think there's any point in delaying the inevitable...

RIP Possum

Possum clings to life

29 April 2003

UPDATED REPORT

New Zealand's finest rally driver, Possum Bourne, is clinging to life today as friends and family gather at his Dunedin bedside while his life support is gradually decreased.

Possum Bourne Motor Sport general manager Murray Brown told the Waikato Times today he was on his way to Dunedin Hospital and would remain there for "as long as it takes".

    • Yeah man, absolutely. You can try pushing me all the way in swapping the R34 for an E9x M3
    • It's almost certainly going to be some amount of pads compound transfer onto the rotors. It will probably go away after you've run them for a bit. If not, pull it all out, lightly sand the rotors, scuff the pads, and rebed.
    • no one recommending speedtek gearsets?   i'm in the same boat as Cosline but rwd, I am holding boost back in third to 600nm at the hubs to save the gear as i make nearly 750nm at the hubs on a mainline
    • Hi guys,  I just replaced my pads with blue stuff and flushed fluid. The pedal and brakes feel fantastic but I'm getting very slight pedal stutter under any kind of braking. Not every time, maybe 1 in 10 and not under any heavy braking, mostly occurs as I'm reaching a stop. It feels like abs engaging but it's so fast, there and gone in under a second and no abs flash on the dash.  Any ideas what could be causing this?
    • How does dead head help with emissions? Is it being claimed for emissions because fuel in the tank isn't being heated up by being pumped around, hence should condense more? One part that is a negative about dead head is heating the fuel at the rail a lot more (IE heat soaking at traffic lights) and this causing lean outs on takeoff afterwards. If my thoughts above are correct, I wonder how different the tail pipe emissions become with the lean outs vs less fuel tank emissions into a charcoal canister
