Offset? But the rear has heaps of clearance to the strut. You should only have guard clearance issues.

I've had 18x9 +45 on the rear before and there was still plenty of clearance to the strut with 2.5deg camber

I have squeezed some 17x9.5 ssr's under the rear of mine. You really don't have a lot of room to play with.

The effective offset on mine with spacer is +46 as i removed the original 15mm spacer that bolts to the back of the rim and replaced it with a 5mm slip on to fit it. Ideally it would need an offset around +43 give a bit more clearance to the tie rod end and coil over as it is really very (too) close atm.

You will need lipped guards minimum running 235's, probably slight flares to run any wider tyre without scrubbing problems. If the tyres have the little lip to protect the edge of the rim it will be even tighter

Are some of you confusing the front and rear? I currently have 9.5" wide +38 rears on my car and i do have rolled rear guards. They clear everything nicely. I dont know how they would go with wider rubber or unrolled guards, but i think its pretty safe to say you dont need to lip the guards

i got 9" with 255s(gtr offset) on the rear of my gfs gtst

Wow.... :)

What width rubber do you have on yours Troy?

I've got +38 offset 9" wide with stretched rubber (235) and there is a bit of clearance but my suspension is so stiff it doesn't even go close.

What is the correct width rubber to put on 9" and 8" rims?

Mine at effective +45 offset, 2 degrees camber and 225 bridgestone semi slick. Straighten up the wheel and increase the offset by another 8mm and they'd stick out like dogs balls, plus scrub with a wider tyre.

Sorry about the picture quality, camera phone in night vision plus me with the shakes = bad photo. Just as a reference, heres one of the front showing the thickness of the lip. That may be why mine were a bastard to fit under the guards.

russ i have 18x8 235/45/18 on front of my car, never rubbed with old suspension, however coilovers on it now and it sits alot lower so it rubbs. i reakon alot of this has to do with just how low the car sits..

I have 255/40s on my 9.5" wheels and they are a tad under the correct width. So i think they are the perfect tyre for the rim. What i look for is that when i put the rim flat on the ground the face of the rim touches the concrete and not the rubber.

hope you're not a curb touch parker!

Roy i have 225/40s on 7.5 inch wide rims. SK suggested i run 235 in the future. Why do u like the tyres stretched out, i mean wouldnt a 265 provide more grip and a better ride?

    • This sounds very old of me, however since buying the Tiguan shit box, my view on shit boxes have changed.
    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
