are these the ones with the old fighter-jet engines? or was it rolls royce :(

I don't know about old fighter-jet engines but it had a 6.75 litre V8 and Bentley used to be owned by the same group that owned Roll Royce and they shared the same engines (to my knowledge).

S**t mate... glad to hear your are relatively ok....

Doesn't look too repairable does it?!

Maybe you can take those ultra comfy rear seats and make them into a couch!!

Good luck no matter what happens... I hope Insurance don't stuff you around

man, that sucks.

at least your car held up pretty well though,

we'd all be hearing about a fatality on the news if you were in anything else i reckon.

hope insurance takes of ya mate.

youre thinking about a drag car with a rolls merlin in it.

in no way street legal.

I'd actually thought about that because I have really old shitty couches at home and the ones in the Bentley are waaayy more comfortable. The ones in the front were 4 way (8 if counting both directions) adjustable electric seats.

its a shame about your bentley dude.... i remember picking one of my cars up from the docks out at outer harbour and seeing this thing, was in REALLY good nick couldnt believe my eyes when i saw it..... was like WTF???? a BENTLEY????????

Shit a brick. I drive to this intersection everyday.

I saw the marks last week and was terrified as to how far the marks do for.

im really glad ur safe and sound. I am also hoping the others in the accident are ok too.

Yes it might have been her fault but dam mate to push ur car across all four lanes she must have been going fast. maybe trying to make it around the corner.

I hope all goes well for you buddy.

I can't comment on fault as that has yet to be determined and I have no idea what speed she was doing but you're right about pushing a car weighting 2200kg across four lanes of traffic I suspect she was going faster than I was - 60-62kmph.

The cop I spoke to last Friday said there had been another accident that same night at the same intersection which also took out one of the traffic lights. Busy night.

Eww nasty! Well my dad has a 1987 Bentley Mulsanne With fuel injection (one of a few with it) and they have basically the same chassic with the beastly 6.75L V8. Hate to see your Bentley Eight wrecked. Glad you were in it rather than a commodore ;), probably saved your life. Bad luck on that loss though.

I've seen one of those cars and it was in the classic adelaide.

They were made either before WW2 or after.

And they had a airplane engine in them.

They sound awesome.

I can't see why they aren't street legal.

writeoff,

Sad to hear buddy. I've seen that car once in the flesh and I was in awe of how clean the thing was. It looked/looks simply awesome.

Sad to hear an old classic beast may join the wrecking yards, glad to hear your ok.

I know that intersection very well.

agreed - but i dont think they are the only ones shitting themselves..........

.....and this is the reason - insurance are probably shitting themselves as well....

Actually I think that the insurance company won't come ouy so bad on this. Redbook values are quite low and I imagine that as spare parts (engine, interior, pannels etc) it would be worth quite a bit to prestige wreckers. See extract from Redbook AU:

Red Book Code BENT89AB

1989 BENTLEY EIGHT

Sedan 4dr Auto 3sp 6.8i

Trade in price guide* $24,600 - $29,600

National average price - private sale* $30,100 - $37,700

Price when new (RRP) $261,626

The car was insured for an agreed value based on the condition and low kms on the car - 51,360km for a 17yo car - which was determined by the insurance company. I think you're right about the spare parts being worth a bit though.

Just had a phone call from the insurance assesser who stated that the rear end was completely twisted and that the car is a total write off.

Personally my movement has improved to the point where I can turn my neck nearly 70 degrees (up from 15 degrees) although I struggle to tilt it back. My knee has most of its range of movements although still hurts to bend or put my weight on it, my back has limited range of movement and my ribs ache and are causing the most amount of pain.

I drove my mates Honda CRX yesterday for about 4km which was the first time I had driven since the crash. I went okay but didn't need to check my blindspot which is my biggest concern. Speed humps are evil if you have sore ribs!

  • 2 weeks later...

I receievd a cheque today from Shannons for the agreed value of the Bentley (minus the outstanding amount on the policy as I paid monthly). No excess was deducted. Just 17 working days from when I informed them of the accident until I had a cheque in my hand. All contact with the assesser and claims department was very kind and helpful. Big thumbs up for their service. Much better than other insurance companies that I have dealt with. Happy to have my Skyline GTR and Peugeot still insured with them.

Good to hear its all been sorted and that your ok, terrible luck indeed.

Finally some positive feedback about claims for an insurance company.

for the distance you were pushed the car looks to be in pretty good shape. but it doesn't take much to write off a car nowdays. but the time you have to replace lights, panels, paint, it all adds up pretty quick.

    • Today, I'm a Breville BES920 tech, new triac board and new 3x way solenoid. Had overheating issues, home RCD tripping when it got warm, and the boiler stayed on when the machine was shut off. Also, usually 3x way solenoid chatter, this is the 3rd time I'm replacing it. Mind you, this machine is 9 year old and send it every day doing at minimum 3x double shots. When the in laws come over to took after my daughter, it will easily see 6x double shots in a single day. Tried to be somewhat compliant, crimped and then used a screw connector over the top. Would have preferred to use heat shrinks.   After all that, turns out all the overheating has damaged the o-rings to the steam tap as well. Ordered new ones, coming soon.
    • Still got it- First time checking sau in a while ahhaha
    • I don't know about that. I can hoon my R32 around - hard launches, high lateral Gs - with <<1/4 tank without any such shenanigans. This with the previous 040 and the current GSS342. I would suspect a fuel line problem. One of the hoses associated with the top of the tank perhaps.
    • This is amazing. Love that you’re giving the boys an intro to cars and off the screens. They probably have an insta for the car and build posts on TikTok for their mates.
    • It is.  Your car works fine with the tank full. If you drive like a Nana it works fine.  You give it a boot full with half a fuel tank, you get surge.  It 100% is a fuel surge issue. Maybe have a look at installing a Hydramat if you don't want to install a surge tank.  https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/hydramat/
