I had a bad morning today.

Some pricks tried breaking into my car and a piss poor effort at it too.

A poop load of damage for something so little so im thinking it was just some young punks trying to go for a joy ride.

Most of the damage is around the drivers door handle and all the window seals are rooted.

Alot of scratches all over the place and little dents from screw drivers and shit

Hope everyone else had a better morning then me

need to plug our cars into 3phase power and when they tough the car whamo 24,000v+ woohyeah that will hit the news and after a few theifs get fried im sure they'll stop

Funny thing is my mate and myself at uni were very tempted to do this after his car was broken into (a toyota camry from 1980's) and all his stereo gear taken from uni. We were going to try and pass it as our 'final year project'.... Was going to arm the handles while the alarm was set. Only thing was the legal complications (...i don't know how it happened officer.... must have been one of those freak lightning strikes...... :no: )

Dont worry import s13, I had a shit day yesterday as well . My red toyota seca (daily driver) was smashed up yesterday on main north just pass Midway rd on the way to work. Some stupid lady wasnt watching in front of her and when she did realise a car was slowing down in front of her and slammed on her brakes.

She had abs and my little seca didnt. I tryed to avoid her car because the middle lane was clear , but just touched her rear end which spun me out to the third lane where I hit a blue honda 4wd and this caused me to spin more out of control. My car was slidding sidways down the road , and the 4wd rolled onto it's roof. I finalally got grip back on my tyres which sent me up the kerb and come to a halt.

Luckally I wasnt hurt and the 4wd driver (male) had only a deep cut on his knee. The ambo's took him to hospital for observation and checks anyway. The comodore (lady's) had barely a scratch on it and was a hire car. Probably would of been better to just run up her rear end. lucky I wasnt cleaned up by some one when I was sliding side ways down the road (peak hour traffic)

Now this will cost me $300 excess :laugh:

$216 towing fees :(

$1600 car written off :(

Luckally it wasnt the GTR. :) Mind you it probably would of pulled up in time.

ouch sorry to hear Michael, but no matter what, you must have been following the Commodore in front way too closely. This is one of my MAJOR beefs with SA drivers - they ALWAYS travel too close to the car in front of them. No wonder we are the rear-ender state. It makes me sick that people do this all the time, and imho you are lucky the innocent guy in the 4wd didn't punch you in the mouth. Sounds harsh, and nothing against you personally, but maybe you won't travel so close to the car in front of you in the future.

If you don't have ABS, then at 60km/h you need to leave at least 4 car lengths between you and the car in front of you - not the usual 3 (which almost no-one does anyhow) - as you have found out often the car in front of you has.

Imagine if you were in the GTR and some *milkshake* ran up the back of you .... needless to say you would be unhappy

Sorry mate, and I really am not an a$$hole (well maybe a little bit), it's just I drive around all day for work and see some of the worst things - it is no small miracle that the Skyline stays in one piece! It drives me absolutely crazy - so much so that I now refuse to do any work out Main North Rd as I see people doing 100km/h and leaving barely a car length or 2 between them (you should be able to count 3 full seconds travel time between cars no matter what speed you are doing - so at 100km/h you should be leaving around 10 car lengths, at 80km/h 8 car lengths MINIMUM).

Anyhow, I am very glad to hear you weren't hurt, and hopefully the financial side of things works out ok for you. :(

Let me see if you can keep that distance clear infront of you in peek hour traffic . Some one will jump in front of you straight away and your 8 car distance will be 3-4 instantly(as you said that no one does anyway)

I have driven for 20 years and also had a truck business for 2 years aswell.(seen some crazy shit)

I allways keep a safe distance infront of me.

If it someone in the 4wd got out and hit me ,look out for an assault charge. Or for my club lock leaving it's imprint on their face.

Mate , my wife and I have been the innocent party in a serious car crash a few years back and know the hardship it can cause t boned on kapunda rd (datsun 1967 bluebird(only was 20 left) now 19 lol)

broken pelvis 4 places

lacerated liver and lung

collapsed lung

cuts to head and a coma for a week (intesive care unit)(7 weeksin hospital)

me (passenger)

I was thrown out of the vehicle as it rolled and it (car) then landed ontop of me. I landed in the spoon drain which stopped me from being crushed.

my wife had to be cut out and died 2 times on the way in the chopper to adelaide

she's ok now obviously

financialy who cares as cars can be replaced or repaired

but lives cant .

fark man that sounds like a shocking accident - did your wife make a full recovery? Damn dude you have had some bad luck. Yes, at the end of the day cars can be replaced but lives can't. This is a lesson learnt by too many unfortunately.

And yes, I can't agree more that when you leave proper following distance often some d!ckhead cuts in front of you anyhow. I guess we just have to learn to be patient, drive to the conditions and capability of our cars.

It is also one of my huge pet peeves - obviously connected to the first.

I also blame the ageing population where lots of the insane stuff I see is caused (often indirectly) by older people doing much lower speed than the limit, and/or pulling out straight in front of you. They are usually not directly involved in the accidents, but cause many by frustrating the hell out of people and winding them up until they do something stupid.

Mmmmm Grange - I wish I had some spare money atm to buy some off you. My brother-in-law is a collector and may be very interested in acquiring some from you - I have sent him an email about it and will let you know.

kye , If you catch these wan$#rs , make sure you let us all Know and invite us all over for a byo bbq.(bring your own stick) We can use them as a pinyata (hang them from your clothes line) and beat the sh#t out of them with some big sticks. O , by the way I work at the hardware store so I will bring some 6" nails if required.

Can you put the car behind a fence or gate at night because these pricks probably will be back .(If so above action required)

I didn't mention the cat was sitting on my lap. She was lost for 8 weeks and we got her back by miracle.

Hello Savage, I'd just like to point out that I do agree with Nightcrawler on this 1 as far as the potential rear ender situation is concerned. Having recently copped from behind itself in my 33, I am probably more inclined to comment than usual.

Really I don't think that it's a very good excuse to sit closer to the car in front of you just because someone else may just jump in anyway. Just to make a point rear enders are generally considered 100% the fault of the driver behind unless the car in front had cut accross at the time it occurred.

If someone does cut in front of you, back off & expand the gap again. This is personally how I drive in busy traffic if need be, & personally I'd rather these lunatics take someone else up the road rather than myself. Not everyone on the road drives like this, though sometimes it can seem like it.

I absolutely hate it now whenever I get someone getting close to my tail & I make a point of staring down at them through my mirror with a distinct BACK OFF. I usually slow down to ensure I have a good braking buffer in front of me & so that I don't have to hit the picks suddenly & get shunted.

So please do not take Nightcrawlers comments personally. I don't doubt that your previous ordeal was horrific & that you may otherwise be a good driver, but please don't use it as a way of shirking your responsibility on the road. This experience is something for you to learn from, if you ignore the fact you were too close to the other car you have learnt nothing, but if you do learn from it you will be a better driver for it & be less likely to have a crash when next presented with the same situation.

This is an important message to all people that read this not just you. We say this only because we want our roads to be safer, something the government isn't really achieving. I hope you can understand that.

the governments dont really want safer road because that would mean they need to spend millions on the roads to fix the mess the've neglected for so long

plus safe roads dont = revenue to them its better for them to try and blame the unsafe roads on lets say import drivers cause were all hoons and therefore that justifies a government grant for more speed cameras and defect stations becuase when were off the roads then there *cough* safe :D

I am keen to know who votes Labor. They have been voted in by the people.

They have received a phenomenal amount of extra income from speed and red light cameras in the past years, yet seem to be spending less on roads than ever. I would have thought a responsible thing for Mr. Rann to do is to spend even a small percentage of this huge windfall on some serious road maintenance.

Yet people keep voting this front-page-baby-kisser in to 'lead us', yet he has no policy, but to blow the whole state budget each year on useless shite we never see any benefit from.

When was the last time you visited a public hospital for treatment to wait up to 12 hours? Or went to the Rego Office to wait in line for 1+ hour? Or drove on shitty roads which they keep dropping the speed limit on rather than fixing up? Who voted this 'government' in????? I just don't understand.

Apparently the Labor govt has employed a further 2,500 admin/government workers (not in hospitals, police, schools or transport maintenance) since they have been in power. Where is the benefit for this $12,500,000 or so in annual expenditure? I sure don't see it. It is our money down the drain, when they can't even balance a budget and constantly run in huge deficit, yet our services etc are the worst they have ever been.

Anyone seen any burst water mains lately? Why don't the government force SA Water to actually spend the $20M sink fund they have put aside for preventative maintenance rather than fix them as they burst?

Not to mention all of the Labor govt driven policy on hoon laws etc etc. Statistics prove that over half of all traffic fatalities are caused by drunk drivers, 20% are on country roads and are caused by fatigue or inexperience, and 20% are drug related. This means that a VERY small percentage is actually caused by 'hooning'.

How about addressing drink driving problems and put a booze bus on EVERY exit to town EVERY Saturday night - the amount of times over the Xmas period I drove around on Friday and Saturday nights and I never once was pulled over for breath testing - in around 20 outings. This is not good enough, when over 50% of all accident fatalities are caused by drunk drivers. Then when they catch them triple all disqualifications and fines - then see how many people are repeat offenders.

ok glad I got all that off my chest, but it is only the tip of the iceberg unfortunately.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
