Mate, what ppl are saying is true. Those mods are illegal. Nismoid should know - lol!

I reckon you'd drastically reduce attention with a quick repray to a less-loud colour. Surely you saw it as an attention-seeking colour before you purchased/sprayed the car?? Cops are humans to you know. ;0)

Well come on you gotta admit it's retarded that they didn't get me for the 3 things that you'd think you'd get on an imported car.. i mean wtf, 1 of my 3 number plate lights was out (debateable), the front tyre (fine) handbrake (lol) come on, they looked at my car for 30 mins and wrote these 3 things down? Thats just odd come to think of it

Also my 162rwkw should be ok on power/weight ratio, and I'm sure that it's not illegal to install a new turbo on all cars right? The weight on my rego says 1320 and my car is only 163kw so it's under when you look at it on paper, which is how the law would look at it.. even if you wrote it down to 1300 it's still legal..

ffs

POWER TO WEIGHT GOES BY STOCK FIGURES

STOCK

you clearly have no idea what you're talking about....

do cops carry a dyno around with them? they go by factory figures...

and the fact you got away with a remapped ECU (that you admitted to having) and a boost controller, tells me that you were let off lightly...so quit your whinging and get over it. You should have copped more than what you got. end of story.

As for your letter to whoever, it will absolutely be ignored. you broke the law, and you were pulled up because of it. there is no argument here. Why would any newspaper waste their space publishing that?

Yes i agree

What you are talking about here touches on a larger issue and that is public opinion.

The general public see images on the tv made to be viewed a certain way, instantly all owners of high performance cars are painted with the same brush and made out to be hoons with no respect for the law or the safety of others.

The police are then tasked according to public opinion, ie, they pull over modified cars.

With any car that is now a few years old there is probably some fault with it that makes it unroadworthy, even if only for "a bullsh** technical reason" the car is still not in roadworthy condition.

The police dont have to prove that your car is unroadworthy to issue a defect notice, they only need to suspect something is wroing, issue the notice and know that you as the owner now have to establish the car is ok to drive. (getting a RWC)

The stories of police targeting young drivers have existed for years, perhaps lately with public opinion focused on "hoons" it has become more obvious and their approach more direct, but over the years police have targeted cars that are modified, older, have P ( police magnet) plates on them etc.

Your side is that you are honest, your car is legal and your not a hoon.

Their side is that getting illegally modified cars off the road is a public safety issue.

Either viewpoint could be argued as correct as debated round and round in circles.

But, in this story the fact remains that you do have an illegally modified car, you got busted and now need to fix it.

Unfortunately the price for owning a cool car is not just lots of pus#y, but lots of unwanted attention also.

Also my 162rwkw should be ok on power/weight ratio, and I'm sure that it's not illegal to install a new turbo on all cars right? I think you really should investigate the laws surrounding legal car modification.

Anything EMISSIONS based, for the sake of the conversation we are having here and for what you need - illegal.

Anything MECHANICAL based, requires en engineers cert - can be made legal

The law is 125kw per tonne.

Not 125rwkw per tonne.

Sorry to inform you of yet another one of your misconceptions.

If you do not know what the laws are, why they are there... then please have a search around these forums

I've posted enough EPA/RWC/Legalities based information over the years, as have many other readers and contributors to this forum, if you cant find the answer here (dare i say it) go to the Vic Section on NS.com where i have also posted a great deal of information.

1) I have read all the VSI's (Vehicle Standards Information) issues by VicRoads

2) I've read a lot of EPA information sheets, guidelines and rulings.

I keep as upto date as i can with all of them for the benefit of people who want to be educated on the matters surrounding it all. Im more than happy to explain, but you have to be able to listen.

Its clear have not even read any documentation surrounding legalities of car modification going by your comments that are inaccurate.

As for the poor treatment, its the time old case of the minority ruin it for the majority. There is nothing that will ever change that... So get over it. This is society today unfortunately.

The police dont have to prove that your car is unroadworthy to issue a defect notice, they only need to suspect something is wroing, issue the notice and know that you as the owner now have to establish the car is ok to drive. (getting a RWC)

While i agree with the rest of your post, i disagree with this point.

The car must be in breach of roadworthy regulations.

Suspicion alone does not work, and as such the resulting court case is easily won.

And people (if pinned for something handed out on suspicion) should be going to court and writing nice letters to the ombudsman about such behaviour

The EPA Reporting however is based on suspicion, and very much incorrectly, but thats how the Bracks Gov't wants to operate, so there is little to be done about that one

you have a car that attracts police attention. you have mods etc that are illegal. i feel that you should stop your bishing and buy a falcon or something if you dont want to be pulled over as much.

kthnxbi

mate your on your p's, driving a bright coloued turbo import, living in an area where the cops a renowned for being harsh on 'hoons'.. i agree with what everyone else is telling you.

i live not too far from eltham (doncaster) and ive been driving my 'boring' burgundy 32 round for 2 years and ive NEVER (touch wood) been pulled over in it.. its just the luck of the draw and with all teh recent media attention the scene has been receiveing im not surpised a bright yellow turbo import being driven by a pplater got pulled over..

its all part and parcel with car ownership mate

MATE I WISH I ONLY GOT PULLED OVER 25 TIMES LAST YEAR. (TT SUPRA 110 DB EXHAUST NOTE. . . NICE MAN)

BUT FOR AS MANY TIMES AS IVE GOT PULLED OVER, DEFECTED OR WHAT EVER ELSE I HAVE ONLY MET 1 BAD COP THE REST OF THEM WERE PRETTY SWEET I JUST SHOWED THEM RESPECT AND WAS POLITE AT THE END OF THE DAY THATS THEIR JOB, IM SURE U HAVE A JOB THAT U WANT TO DO PROPERLY.

THE FACT THAT YOUR CAR IS BRIGHT YELLOW MIGHT HAVE A LITTLE TO DO WITH IT AS WELL.

HAY MAN I LIVE IN DONNY TOO PROBABLY SEEN U CRUISING AROUND

Edited by GUN_METAL_GTR32

What people don't seem to understand is that i couldn't care in the least that i've been defected, or whether i deserve it or not. I'm wondering if any one (and i hear alot of complaints about the police force in general, although most just get replies like im receiving) is actually trying to get anything down on paper regarding these problems

mate are you sure your not hooning around n shit?

a yellow car stands out like dog bollocks, and as Jar said, how many cars except for taxis, mavs car and a few VLT's, do u see yellow?

i have basically the same mods you have listed, albeit the turbo, and i have never been pulled over except for 2 random breath tests.

and i live in the dreadded "knox" area.

i also lived in altona meadows for pretty much 21 years of my life, and had never been pulled over there either. i have been followed, but hey, who hasnt? as long as you do the right thing, u have nothing to worry about. but, you do, because you drive a skyline that is illegal, and you know it. so why have a cry in the intarweb for?

if i was a cop, and saw a bright as f**k yellow skyline, modified, id certainly want to pull you over and have a look at it.

i think u got let off way too easy, with the fact that u admitted u have an ECU modification and a boost controller.

maybe your attitude when u get pulled over is what the cops give you attitude for. both times i was pulled over, i was polite, and they were polite back. it works both ways.

as chopper says, harden the f**k up.

You guys on here are incredible. All this guy wanted to do was tell us that he got defected and how it is unfair, but the police and general victorian attitude towards Performance cars brainwashing has rubbed off onto you and you guys have become like cops yourselves.

Police reads these forums and see that you tools are in favour of what they do and as a result do it some more.

Everyone here Im sure likes to enjoy there car and Modify it, why not. People with 4WDs mod them too.

Not everyone can afford a big fine and a defect and to afford getting a roadworthy. Its a lot of money which some people dont have or the time it takes off work etc and what does it achieve.

Fair enough and unroadworthy car is a unroadworthy car, but for ridiculous things that this guy has mentioned I think its a load of rubbish.

But ohh well, doesnt matter, all you brownie points scorers are gonna jump on ans preach about how compliant you are with the law so victoria will become an even more anti performance car state.

lol...

he drives a skyline. its modifed.

hence, illegal. unless he an engineers report, but i doubt he has.

whats the f**king problem?

im driving an illegal car, and if i get defected, well i certainly wont go and have a sook about it, especially on the internet.

dry your eyes.

    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
