Skyrine-Dave
i'd like to use the RB20 plenum too for the "stock" look along with the RB20 cam valley/ignitor cover Nissan 2000 24 valve :) can the RB30t water and oil pumps be used? would these be better than the 25t pumps ? also if i had a bare block RB30 where would i fit idlers and tensioners? what sort of $$$ are they worth ? *bring back the old thread * Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/16/#findComment-395462 Share on other sites
DennisRB30
I saw a article in zoom where they had a worked RB26 with cams and huge turbos etc, they then changed over to a RB30 bottom end. Thats all they did, plus a re tune. They left all the other hardware in place. So it is a good scientific example because the only variable that changed was the bottom end. The engine did not just get some more bottom end grunt. It got more bottom end and shit loads more max power as well, all at the same boost levels. So engine analyzer programs aside, in real terms the RB30 conversion will shit on the smaller bottom end in power and torque. Sure, it won't rev to 10,000 RPM but it won't need to becuse it will out power the smaller engine at much lower revs. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/16/#findComment-430129 Share on other sites
Cubes
All I can say is i'm grinning.. Very nice flat torque curve massive mid range improvement. So there was no extra boost or harder tuning involved? Where does it make full boost? That reminds me a little of a 2JZ-GTE curve. raist60
Nope, nothing different cept bottom end not even boost. I dunno on the dyno it had fullboost when being held at 2300rpm On the road i really couldnt tell you as i wasnt watching judging by torque its pretty much full boost at 3000rpm in ramp mode. 4th gear is roughly 35 rpm to every 1 kph i believe Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/16/#findComment-433660 Share on other sites
Cubes
So tuning wasn't altered? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/16/#findComment-433669 Share on other sites
raist60
Yeah tuning was altered... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/16/#findComment-433676 Share on other sites
Skyrine-Dave
hmm does anyone know if the MX7 (VL turbo 5spd) would bolt into a skyline?? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/16/#findComment-433692 Share on other sites
Cubes
depends on the tyres u are running.. I can see how a 4.11 is pretty much required for a RB30. If 1kph = 35rpm the RB25 made peak power around 6000rpm and the RB30 made peak power around 5200-5300rpm.. That doesn't sound right. Unless the RPM is out 500-600rpm. Doesn't the RB25 make peak power around 6500rpm? If that assumption was correct then the RB30 would be making peak power close to 6000rpm which is what i've heard previously. So what did you have done to the short motor? Forged pistons etc? Skyrine-Dave
Joel... i got a dumbass question relating to the DIY guide... Can you really get away with using the RB20 oil pump?? is there any disadvantage to using it over the rb25 pump ? thanx Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/16/#findComment-433744 Share on other sites
JNR24
you cant use it dude it wont fit, and you wouldnt want too. It wouldnt flow hard enough dude. unless you get a Jun adapter. Cubes
JNR24 I think he is talking about the RB20 Turbo oil pump?!?! If so that will fit and flow enough. The R33 GTR + oil pump requires an Adaptor. The R32 GTR pump fits but apparently has problems with some thing cracking. The cracking maybe due to rev's however so it may not be a problem with the R32 GTR pump on the RB30. ?!?!? Unless I am wrong. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/16/#findComment-433919 Share on other sites
Skyrine-Dave
yesm the RB20det oil pump... just wanna see what i can sacrafice off the RB20det to save money/sourcing hassles cheers Dave Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/16/#findComment-433929 Share on other sites
matlowth
Joel - when you just increase the capacity of the motor without increasing the volume of air going to it, the point of peak power will move lower... That's why you need a bigger cams, valves, turbo's, etc to make the most of a 3ltr motor. But for a street/track car - that torque curve and power curve are ideal! matt Originally posted by -Joel- If 1kph = 35rpm the RB25 made peak power around 6000rpm and the RB30 made peak power around 5200-5300rpm.. DennisRB30
That is a killer power curve. Notice the extended power curve of the 3L. It has a broad rev range where it makes peak power. The 2.5L just sort of peaks to its maximum power for bit after a large low power dip. Cubes
The NA RB25DE Cams are supposed to be slightly more aggressive compared to the RB25DET cams, not to sure but thats what JMS said? Sounds good Matt. You can definately see on Raists power curve where the flow restriction begins. That power dip will be slightly associated with tuning. raist60
Mixtures were consistent on both maps. 12:1 i think you'll find the dip is not infact a dip more that there was a slight boost spike at start of peak torque on the 25det map. Cubes
So how does it feel on the road compared to the RB25 does it feel like it goes a little flat up top around 6000rpm? raist60
Nope. It feels weird, it feels nothing like the 25. Its more like a N/A car now, the response is just insane. Pulls like a freight train through all revs. No noticable spool anymore, you just put your foot down and it goes then and there. Quite strange feeling. Cubes
Well if thats the case with the standard RB20 turbo it will feel like a supercharged RB30.. Ahh well pour all my money in to the car while I'm at uni, gives me some thing else to think about apart from stress.
