on my way home today, driving my new car that im extreamly pleased with, when up ahead i see a booze bus. so of course i started shifting down gears from 60 in a 60 zone, now doing about 35km with still about 80m to go before i reach the breath testing spot. when all of a sudden a cop on the other side of the road (across from the test) walks out in front of me stops me in the middle of the road less than 10m from a breath tester and yells at me:

COP: "oi mate what the hell are you doing??"

ME:"excuse me sir?"

COP: "what do you do when u see a booze bus?"

ME: ah you slow down" sir i was doing 35/40" (in a 60 zone mind you)

COP:"well get in there!" (refering to the testing lane.)

so, keeping my cool i proceed to get tested everythings good no problems. then i glance back in the rear view as im leaving, and the cop that stopped in front of my car in the middle of the road is chuckling to another cop looking at me as i drive off.!!

f**k i swear it took everyone part of my brain to realise that it was best to keep driving (obviously!)

but seriously just because i drive an awesome car  doesnt mean you have to give me a hard time about it. im off my Ps too and the car "looks" bone stock.

anyone else had any discriminating people/law enforcement towards them because of their car??

yeah i just hate people pushing me around like that and and you knida just got to take it. "really grinds my gears". obviously if you retaliate and be a smart arse its only going to get worse for you. but it reminded me of some cop joke on Super Troopers. which is a great movie by the way!..

I think it might be something that you need to get use to... from cops or just general public (but if someone from the public says something tell em to get f**ked)... but like RedEmblem said its no big deal if you have nothing to hide then i wouldn't worrie abou it..

Actually I had alittle problem back on Summernats weekend.

I was heading out of Canberra to Sydney and there were heaps of police facing the traffic looking for modified cars comming into Canberra.

One of these police cars noticed me going the other way and did a big u-turn, chased me down, pulled me over and told me it was a random vehicle inspection. Now, I wasn't speeding, car didn't look too modified.

The police asked alot of questions about my car and I told him that I recently went over the pitts, and that it wasn't too low and was 95DB at 3000RPM.

but he still defected me and said that it needed the orginal exhuast. Could of argued but would of copped a fine and defect other than just the defect.

Goulbourn police as definately not the nicest of police that I know of.

Had my car for nearly a year... never had a problem with police.

ditto...only i've had it for over a year...majority of ownership on p-plates..and it was modified both visually and performance wise

i got threatened with jail for literally doing nothing wrong but going passed a car in the right lane......not over taking, just going the speed limit past

cop was a real wanker

ive been pulled over once for "manner of driving"

pulled out from maccas wif my mates n his missus + her friend.

over revved a bit wif my new 3inch pipe which made alot of noise.(still getting used to the clutch as i had my car for only a week)

apparently this undercover cop followed me.

only took a 15 sec drive to my mates house. wifout indication turns n shit coz it was at nite wen no ones around.

then i parked at my mates house n thats wen they pulled me over. sed i tried to do a burnout/manner of driving/speeding.

so i just accepted all of them saying yeh yeh yeh.

but they let me off i was lucky as coz it was demerit week.

then as they were leaving they sed that skylines are shit in crashes. they offer no protection lol

This happened a long time ago but back then I was driving my N15 SSS.

Went for an Aust Day cruise with the pulsar.org.au club to Palm Beach. On my home I decided to take Epping Rd (In Syd) as a shortcut. This is a 4 lane rd which eventually merges into 3. I took the far right lane and eventually I could see the booze bus about 1- 1.5km away.

As I got closer to the booze bus, this young cop stops the remaining 3 lanes, points at me and tells me to merge all way left and line up. I eventually parked my car in the line and out of the blue the same young cop jumps in front of the SSS and takes a photo with a digital camera. I just sat there for about 10secs thinking wtf just happened.

(I had my headlight covers on, which I know was my fault...it was asking for it...pic attached). One of the older cops walks over to me with a breathalyzer did his thing and everything was good. As I was about to drive off the young cop goes to his senior, his got covers on, that’s illegal….the older cop acting a bit uneasy asked me if it comes on. Said to him sure does and quickly jumped out and took it off.

Jumped back in my car and as I moved about a foot, I could hear the young cop say to his senior again “aren’t those rims too big”. I remember thinking to myself…you f****n c**t. Anyway…got stopped again and by this stage 5-6 more senior looking cops started walking towards my car. I was like “DAMNNN! I will get my ass done today”. To my surprise one of the cops goes to me “ Nice looking car, you can tell it gets maintained really well”….not knowing what to say all I said was “thanks officer, I try my best”.

The young cop goes to me, where is the tire palm card...I said I wasn’t sure, I have never checked ( I honestly never did). My entire car was checked, from the boot to behind all the doors and kick panel and eventually they found it in the glove box. One of the seniors goes “oh its 15” standard, he has 17” now….2 inch over….its legal”.

All this time another older cop was talking to me. He goes to me and I swear to you “Most people don’t know that putting bigger rims seriously affects the braking power…that is why we need to do these checks. If we pull someone over and they are nice and reasonable we usually let them off with a warning but if they are being smartass…WE F**KEM!!”

My response…..I understand what you mean sir.

After 25-30mins later….got told I could leave and have a safe trip home!!

My 50 cents…. :)

i had an r33 gtst done up inside and out for about a year and i got hassled non stop.

i suppose i was always in the wrong place at the wrong time.

in sydney theres about three trouble spots where cops know that worked cars go to on cruzes through. parramatta, george street and la peruz.

everytime i took my 33 through those areas id get defected and twice was tagged and towed away. now that i got my r34 gtt ive left it fairly stock, just rims so far and no problems yet. i get looks from coppers but no trouble.

my advice is just be nice and NOT A SMARTASS. i learnt da hardway coz bein on ur red p plates with a worked r33 and now on greens with an r34 burns da coppers up and so you have to be as nice as possible to get on dere good side. also get an engineering certificate for mods. it costs a bit but saves you a lot of hassle with defects and clearing da c**ts later on. once again learnt da hard way lol.

I think he's complaining about the asshole factor not the fact he got RBT'd

Anyways, i get pulled over nearly every time i go into city (have only been pulled over 8 times near where i live) which is annoying because it's normally on the way home from work or i'm headed to torquay, that sort of thing, they always pop the bonnet and have a poke around, try get me for a few things and after i've briefly debated the legitimacy of my mods (although normally the things the cops ask about were like that from stock, like the bov) they either defect me or go sit in there car for 25 minutes and talk on the radio before telling me to get going. They're also always very rude to me, can never figure out why...

Really freaks me out actually i was getting too scared driving my car so i sold it and i'll get a GTR when i'm 21 and hopefully cops wont be such carnts

I'm always really nice to cops, i wear glasses and i'm pretty young/smart looking, always take off hat etc, doesn't make any difference >.<

"And yaf28f: Legal noise limit is not 95DBa, it's actually 90DBa. "

In vic it's only 86DB, 90DB (or might be 92) was only acceptable on cars made before 86

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
