hi all,

im new to the forum. I dont know neone else that owns a na skyline so i thought u guys could help. My oil pressure is always fluctuating. Do u guys notice this too? my dad says there could be a problem with the car. The presure rise under accelartion or whenever the revs go up and drops again at idle? is this normal, currently using castrol gtx3 fully synthetice oil. Any Help.

Cheers

umm.. well it's depends on the weather...hot cold..

pressure should not be too low but its also depends on the oil...

Not sure but it should not chage drastically as you say.

Try to use other oil at next service and see if its same

but its well known failure of oil pressure guage.

The RB engines are notorious for dodgy oil pressure guages - so it could be a false reading. (I had the same problem about a year ago - turned out to be faulty guage...)

But, it is better to check - make sure you have no oil leaks, and that the oil is of the correct grade.

In addition older, higher mileage engines tend to show lower pressure, particularly at idle. Generally it should be around 4gkcm when first started from cold, and drop to around 2 - 3 kgcm when idling and hot. Under acceleration it should rise along with engine RPM...

Hope it helps

Watch the oil pressure when the car is hot – Keep in mind the oil pressure sender is prone to failure. These are the factory specifications for oil pressure on the RB20DET:

1kg/cm 2 @ 600 rpm

3kg/cm 2 @ 2000 rpm

4kg/cm 2 @ 6000 rpm

I know they are for a rb20 but they should be very close to the current standing add about 1 kg/cm on to the readings should be more accurate, similar readings on my line.

Sorry to dig this up again. Recently I replaced by original dash dials with one of those Reverse Indiglo type El-Guage, and after doing do I noticed that the oil pressure goes right up there at cold start and goes up to 8 when accelerating. I think it didn't do it before the guage change and it hasn't been 5,000km after I made my last oil change. I'm using semi-synthetic oil. So can the installation process some how bugged the meter abit, is that possible?

And how can you tell what oil pressure ur getting without reading the gauge?

Cheers

Sorry to dig up an extremely old thread, but i am curious...

I have never noticed my oil pressure change before, in any car, has always been steady at half way.

Yesterday in my R33 gtst the gauge started moving with the revs. (as it seems it should be)

range from about 2.5 at idle to 5.5 when accelerating.

I'm a bit confused as I have not seen it move before, and now its working ok???

I have owned 5 cars previously and driven loads of others and not noticed oil pressure movement.

Over the weekend I had a run at the drags, so would/could this have flushed out a blockage and started things working better?

has been about 4000km since last service which was before i bought the car, so am planning one soonish.

I'm just stumped why i never noticed movement before, yet everywhere i read seems to say thats what should be happening..

My 33 is the only car I've had with an oil pressure gauge so I cannot compare there, but my gauge does what is described.

Higher pressure when cold than hot and increases with revs.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?

LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
