I've bought a set of mag locknuts and a cold air box from UAS. I thought they had pretty good service for them - they stuffed up the ordering/making of the air box a bit (it arrived a few days after they said it would) and they gave me a $10 discount because of that.

But when I asked them if they could tune my S-AFC, they couldn't, and they referred me to Silverwater. Before I went there though, I discovered Hills Motorsports in the same block of "units" (whatever you call those workshop things). Hills is by far and away the best performance shop I've ever been to, and I don't anticipate ever having to go elsewhere. Their treatment of customers is second to none, and they *really* know what they're doing.

I would say if you wanna buy some add-on bits like strut braces or air boxes or bodykits etc then UAS is fine, but if you want your car worked on, take it to Hills.

Edit: Hills Motorsports isn't listed in the White pages, because he gets more than enough work just by word of mouth! That says a lot about the place IMO. I'm guessing that when Mark had it listed, he was probably getting too many random clueless n00bers ringing up and wasting his time. Hills Motorsports is a true enthusiast's workshop.

Appart from me all my current staff are great, and the person arguing no longer with us. I pay top money and try to screen staff and unfortunatley have aksed quite a few ove r the years on trial to leave UAS.

I can and do rub people the wrong way sometimes my strong personality, my Police back ground and throw in a huge workload and pressure. Our new location is so much bigger and efficient which helps.

I also am relieved to have fresh enthusiasm from casual staff on Saturdays like Nick ( Blitz), but he cheats with a bottle or two of V.

Re AFC yes we have been fitting and tuning them for years but kind of over them as they are a band aid treatment. We do road tune them but dyno would be easier. Looking at getting the Dynopac. With the R33 GTS-T in particular and microprocessor they are like a parasite that helps but still not good. We are fitting lots of Autronic, Microtech and Power FC which all work well.

Curious JimX how did you find AFC and how is your car and what power does it make, you were going to drop back and show me?

The AFC is excellent. Aside from a slight increase in power it really smoothed out the delivery so I found myself more able to avoid bouncing off the rev limiter. It made an extra 15kw with the old intercooler and plenum, pretty much from idle all the way to redline. I'll get it re-tuned when I fit the new fuel pump, hopefully around August.

UAS are pretty good IMHO. John and co. have offered sound advice to me that is based on years of experience. Walking into the new site is like walking into Jap-part-wonderland! Could spend 20k/hour easily!

And John isn't that bad of a guy. Nick once told me, "When you first meet him, give him a bitch slap so he knows who's boss from day one!"

Didn't quite do that but he was very generous letting me use his spanners to fit the new BOV that I didn't even buy from him :D

Thumbs up to UAS. :D

Remember to say you're from SAU!

Hi Prank. I was an oldy on the other site downunder but the new one here all start again. How do I become an oldy or senior and no Nick I don't mean grey hair I start to qualify?

If I die my hair darker, maybe cut it short, put my cap on backwards bring my V drinks along, have not tasted one yet am I missing out? Crank my seat right back and play the duff duff music and I will leave my Fleetwood mac CD at home I promise. Can I them come out raging with you guys I am very young at heart??

Boosted Zed, it was making 150rwkw before the S-AFC tune, and 166 after. Not sure what it's got now after the cooler and plenum upgrade, but suffice to say it can now step the rear out in 2nd gear, in a straight line on a dry road, with grippy Toyo tyres on the back.

I mentioned in another thread that I won't be able to afford the fuel pump upgrade probably until August, because I've got my insurance renewal coming up soon and I need to preserve every penny I have for it. I've already got the pump, I just need around $250 to install it and re-tune the S-AFC. I'll see if I can do a few more things at the same time, like the dump pipe (still 2" at present) and fuel regulator. All depending on how much the insurance premium costs and how much money I can save in the meantime.

I took a mate who owns an Audi S3 out for a spin the other day and he readily admits that it would flog the pants off his car :D (except in the wet, his being 4wd)

That is very good power ( although dyno's vary) considering standard dump and engine pipe, they are a bit more than 2 inch but yes 3 inch much better. Cat 3 inch there I assume? I thought you went all out with big turbo, EMS etc and more and had or was expecting 260 rwkw which I doubted?

Boosted Zed, I think you might be thinking of someone else :) My car already came with a Garret T04 turbo, and according to the previous owner flows up to 450hp. I also had no real power expectations from this work, except maybe to get >200rwkw, but I never expected >260. I think 260 would be pushing the limits of my turbo, unless I ran more than 1 bar of pressure.

The cat size I'm not sure about, but the front pipe is 3" so I presume the cat is also 3". If not then I'll set aside another couple of hundred for that, probably get one of those high flowing CATCO ones.

Must be sorry and an example of the probs and confusion with the alias call names on forums, unless I am blind no name in profiles as per normal also. Some like to hide I understand but don't agree with.

I thought it was Brendan obviously not. Makes sense now. Same colour car and looks etc. I recently discovered the Australian Soarer forum and they all use and have to use ones actuall real name. Imagine that no confusion, no hiding and also some may say no fun.

Hehe that's ok, even more confusing because I *did* speak to you about my car when I bought my cold air box last year :) It was a long time ago though, well over 8 months I reckon. I thought you just had a really good memory (coz I didn't remember much about the convo myself)

1. It's "doof doof" music. Duff is a beer.

2. Fleetwood Mac sucks. You really shouldn't be going around telling people you and other Zed owners listen to them.

3. No-one says "raging" anymore John.

:) :bahaha: :shake: :uh-huh:

Fleetwood Mack is actually music. Thanks for the info on raging. A customer came in the other day with his zed and actually had the Macks on, I said great stuff. Yes he had his cardigan on and is about 50 and a proffessor of engineering os something.

The non music is the DUF DUF or boof boof then is it?

On Sats I ware my shirt out now as this is now the trend right? My young sister the other day said she would diss own me otherwise.

Hey guys come try and beat the old guy in his fat ZED TT at our next track day and I will go round you with the Macks playing.

    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
