Another reason it happens around the dandenong area i would think is cause its so far away from calder. I have heard of the huge laverton drags and that. But they are closer to calder park. So really they should just go there.

But who can be stuffed going through city link all the time.

the place i work at now in dandy probly has a 2 kilometre straight road.

Where australia post is. Follow progress street for reference. Its pretty new, but its bound for some late night time trials, although only one exit. bummer. (could even have some drags inside the factories there come to think of it. they are huge.

But yeah, i say give more access to sandown raceway aswell. Night drags just like at calder.

Would get a big turn out i'd say.

ciao

i think if they opened up a new strip somwhere at the back of

deer park or somehwere...

charged 20 buxs entery

and was open 4 days a week

there would be no illigal street racing,,

but steve bracks is a poof and im gonna end up doin demos on

his front lawn again tonite in my 1985 magna

$20 tight asses wouldn't pay, but its getting there in terms of what's needed..

exactly zdenko (hey u said something intelligent? who is using your account??!)... see it just has to be an area that isn't a drag strip..drag strips are for full drag cars, not really street cars.

sanddown would be cool. Really the people who should be (cops and government) just aren't thinking of alternatives, so people will just get bored and street race. Until they come up with something, people will just continue to do so. But of course they make money $165 everytime they canary somebody so sad to say, but that seems to be what they'd prefer to do..

Actually, maybe we should be proactive and write some letters to our local MP's (anonymous of course)... with some intelligent suggestions. You never know, they might just take notice of it.

You'll be surprised what actually standing up and doing something intelligent about it rather than just wingeing about it can do....

It has got me what I have wanted many times. A well worded letter can do wonders if makes somebody at least thing for a moment outside their little box.

The problem is they probably only hear from dickheads about the whole thing which just reinforces their opinions that it should be banned under every circumstance, and more drastic crackdowns should be implemented.

theres no chance they will build another place for cars to race. 2 is enough. My question is what is the $17 which everyone is going to pay on rego going towards. Overseas travel for politicians or what. When you think about it. $17 isn't really that much, but when everyone has to pay it. Its close to $20 million dollars..

I think the problem with the racing meets are the liability insurance which the places have to pay. If they are cahrging shitloads for basketball places, imagine what they'd have to pay for racing events. would be huge.

yer, i know, that is a large part of the problem.. the liabilitity insurance. But why can't they just disclaim all responsibility?? and if people take the risk they do so on their own.

damn fat lawyers.. hate em all.. ****ing american bullshit creeping into our country.. get out .. hate hate!

I am not to sure. The way i see it, is if they say "enter at own risk", then they may not be able to operate, for saftey reasons, and the government will not allow it.

So seeing as the venue is taking on responsibility for what goes on there, they have to have the insurance (i would think). Its not only what happens on the track, spectators are also covered incase of a misshap.

Thats the way world is coming to these days.

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
