Is it legal to have 15 video cameras installed in your shop and record your employees 24/7 ?

Plus stream that video signal over the internet to your home and watch them on your home TV / Computer monitor ?

Then when you not sure what they are doing call them up and ask them what they are doing and why a customer left the shop without an item.

Just wondering..

Seems my mate who has taken over this shop is getting a bit power hungry and fellow employees are starting to question if he can question there every move and invade privacy like this.

I'm questioning this privately if you know anyone that actually knows the law in regards to this I would appreciate some advice.

Cheers.

I don't know the legality of it, so I won't say I will.

My work has cameras all over the place and the General Manager can watch these from home. However this is in our employee agreement that everyone signed before starting employment there. There is no audio though.

This white paper may answer some of your questions (I hope)

You will also want to read a copy of the Surveillances devices Act 1998 (WA) found here

Good luck with your research.

they run internet report usage in our office too, and send us usage reports to us once a month, not of our individual usage, but unsolicited emails, images blocked by RGL's mail security, if net usage is too high it gets monitored further to see if it's work related, etc...

15 cameras is a lot aint it Adam?

It is - my dad has it in his workshops. He can even view them on his home computer - which he quite often does on saturdays .... caught employees sitting on reception doing their resumes and all.

Doing resumes? they are going somewhere they can not be watched all day?

my dad really looks after his employees - in fact he just bought one of them a brand new XR6 .... becuase they've always done the right thing by the company. But unfortunately there's a helluva a lot that dont do the right thing by him - with a workshop environment there's a lot of scumbags - who steal tools, punch each other up and do anything and everything other than work. So that's the reason for CCTV.

Besides if you are doing the right thing ....... you would have nothing to hide anyway and cameras wouldnt bother you.

That sounds like fascisim to me

Yer i get your point though in that kind of environment it may be called for.

Haha..

Its colour but has no audio.

The guys at work do work hard so I'm not bothered..

Just one of them asked if its legal for him 2 do this.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.

    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
