hi everyone

I have been reading the posts about oil pressure. I have a r32 gts4 and it has only got 2kg/cm3 of oil pressure when it is cold and stays the same when I rev it. checked this with a mechanical gauge. is it possible to be anything else other than the oil pump.

thanks locky

i have exactly same thing. but havent checked with mechanical. going off stock guage

car is r32 gtr

firstly don't worry too much about cold readings. do the tests when the oil is over 80 degrees. for info, a healthy 32 GTR will be just above 2kg at idle and should be around 6kg when cruising at 3000rpm.

i had a problem with my car but it wasnt the exact symptons to what you are having and it ended up being a broken oil pressure release valve in the collar. hope that helps.

where's that?

I have the exact same problem as well, am working on it at the moment but freekin everything here is closed so i can't get the fitting i need. Mine goes up to 4 on startup then hovers around 2 while driving, regardless of rpm, engine runs fine though no probs, i'm hoping when i hook up an external gauge it'll read properley then can be narrowed down to either dash gauge or sender.....

i dont know. its what my mechanic told me.

Hi Beer Baron, what would be the reading on a healthy R33 Gtst?

Hi Beer Baron, what would be the reading on a healthy R33 Gtst?

it's very similar. between 1 and 2 and idle and between 4-6 at 3000rpm cruising. all at operating temp of course. in my experience the stock gauge has been fairly accurate, just very slow reacting. my defi BF moves around as fast as a tacho! the stock one just slowly creeps around.

cheers guys have decided to put a new motor in as compression all over the place and turbo is on its way out. the oil pressure still doesn't move above 2 at any rpm

hey my r34 non turbo sits at 6-7 at cold start and in normal running conditions its sitrs between 4-5..and wen the revs goes higher it hits 7max..is that normal

Ok just for you guys info. Got an external gauge hooked up today and just tested the pressure staticly neutral revving it. got the following readings:

At start approx 50psi then drops down to 22-26 at idle.

2000rpm - 43psi

3000rpm - 60psi

4000rpm - 71psi

5000-8000psi - between 70-80psi

If you want kg/cm3 divide by 14.2

Now I been told you want approx 10psi per 1000rpm and thats something to aim for with any engine of any age? now i am getting more like 20psi per 1000rpm dunno if this is just because it's under no load or its a turbo engine or what. Any ideas anyone. So guess i will be off to the nissan dealer tomorrow to try and get a new pressure sender and maybe a dash gauge if that doesn't work.

Also just for the info the oil pressure relief valve on an RB26 and I am assuming all Rb engines is on the bottom of the oil pump and its a sump of job to get to....

Yours does seem pretty high!

Especially as you rev higher, Oil pressure isn't supposed to climb that high when reving a car, that's what the relief valve controls.

I would definitely start checking it out. You might start popping seals etc.

lol it's not high dude, infact it's pretty spot on.....5.6kg/cm3 at 8000rpm. it just seems to climb fast and then level of, I suppose thats not such a bad thing really. although it's an n1 pump so it does flow more. Will be interesting to see if it comes up with similar figures under load.

Anybody know when the relief valve opens?

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
