ive just finished my turbo conversion previously na, ended up quite alot cheaper than a full engine, but only problem i have now is my gear box seems a bit crunchier than normal and when i try to put it into 1st its very very very hard reverse as well, my engine idle is not normal either its around the 1000rpm mark, could this be the problem? as when the car is off and standing the gears are so easy to get into and out of, i hope i dont need a new gear box :S

Any help or advice or tips will be much appreciated

Sounds like your clutch is buggard. can you feel the tailshaft move or the dif clunk when you do get it into gear ? if you can it means the clutch is not working properly.

Did you upgrade the clutch or is it a standard NA one?

The idle can be adjusted via the aac valve - there is a screw on the side of it

i got no idea where that is lol.... but the power fc says the engines rpm isnt stable but its hovers around the 800 - 860 mark yet the tacho (original not one of them big ones) says its around 1000 rpm.... who to believe

i forgot to say that it only didnt want to go to 1st and reverse just the one time it happened after taking my car for the 1st spin after i got it back. Also it is just sometimes that its a little bit harder than normal to get into these gears. what could be the problem with the clutch? (its brand new like not even a week old) or did they not install it properly or something? (advan performance)

it happened again (the b@stard) i was in stop start traffic for about 30 mins in 5 dock (nsw) then got on to anzac bridge and it started to rain hard. i exited off to ultimo and 1st was hard to get into (after coming to a complete stop) after a while i found my parking spot to go to work (about 5.30 pm) still raining parked but couldnt reverse to straighten it up, it made huge crunching noises, even though i was at a complete stop, so i left the car parked slightly uneven. Around 9.30 went to pay the meter again at the same time while the car was off i tried to see if it would get into gear while it was off, and it did very smooth and not hard at all. Finished off at 2.45am got into the car and 1st and reverse were hard to get into but it got there, didnt crunch this time round, after a while of driving as i was going home 1st got easier to get into but reverse wasnt as easy but much easier than when i 1st parked the car at 5.30. How can a brand new heavy duty clutch (especially from exedy) not be doing its damn job! Do you reckon its getting too cold too easy or too hot or something. Ive emailed advan about it already so i'll be taking it in when they get back to me, but id like to know how could a brand new clutch do this to me, its heart breaking :P haha especially when you cant reverse park , lucky i found one that i didnt need to reverse to get into *phewf*

Just take it back to where you got the clutch installed. Have the car checked over. We can only guesstimate what the issue is, but considering you got the clutch a week ago and the problem seems to be clutch related, your best to just take it back and get a definite answer.

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
