I'd say he doesnt do any work.. or atleast not anywork for anyone. either born into wealthy family or investor/entrepeneur

Dont forget the GT-R is still testing.. and i dont think they will release any final figures for the times they are getting until the car is released.. if at all.

Interesting article i read about the next GT-R that i think u all should read.

V36 Skyline GT-R Evolution

Was the 959 really a groub b rally car?!?! i thought it was more designed to compete against the ferrari f40? or atleast provide ferrari f40 performance with luxury to boot. Dont flame me if im wrong please.. thats just what i have been told and always believed

Well it was designed for groub B, but they never compeated. The 959s were back in the early 80s, pretty sure that was before the F40s, as ferrari had that other turbo thing which I cant remember the model number of right now. They did use them for dakar tho. And won...

Oh and a big high 5 to scathing! haha!

But my sister and a few friends are over there working. just need to to wire them the money. Get them to go shopping and when the time has elapsed get them to bring it home for a great XMAS. Want a T350C, more likley a V8 Cerbera, but funds may mean i get a Sierra Cosworth

or you could do some work for TVR motorsport, and get them to send you a racing one for track days :) now i just need to find the money

What started out as a general topic to help out a father...ended up as a shit fight between Porsche and Nissan.

Stick to the facts boys.....the next generation GTR will be like a soft sponge.....suited for the mass buyer.

Really once you have driven a Porsche most of your life...it is hard to get into anything else........

So 997 second hand(N/A)....90K Approx...for a good one...and he will be happy.

He might be swayed into an AudiTT or any other European convertable though...so he has alot of choices here.

I would if he was serious about letting you come up with ideas...get him to drive a GTR34...just let him know you can organise the leather and a sun-roof later...this might sway him.

i have driven in a porche 911 gt3

and i have driven in a full house 10sec gtr

and the gtr ate it for breakfast

if i bought a late model 34 gtr and built it to be a 10 second car i would still have heaps left over instead of buying a similar porche

and thats what its all about

the gtr was a revolution back in 89 because it offered porche/ferrari performance for 1/3 the price and it still does end of of story . the new gtr will do the same , it doesnt have to be faster , it just has to get close because its massive cost benefit will pull it way over the line in terms of value

if your dad wants maximum performance per dollar the gtr will never be beaten . if he doesnt then he can buy whatever . maybe get an old classic porche if performance is not the issue

A GT-R is NOT a GT (despite what the name suggests). it is a fairly uncompromising, narrowly focused racing car. they are LOUD, HOT (anyone notice the complete lack of air circulation inside the R33's cabin and the amount of sweat it generates on the driver's back?), they consume an unbelievable amount of petrol, have an uncomfortable ride and they have shit stock clutches. if your dad is willing to live with these inconveniances (as i am) then he will love a GT-R.

but you already said that he doesn't like the way your GT-R drives, so as a day to day car, i would have to assume that the porsche would be far better than a GT-R.

Better still, tell your dad to get an M3, he can always throw on a pair of turbos if it isn't fast enough! ;)

People who buy GT-Rs to make a quarter mile machine aren't getting the point of a GT-R. Or a Porsche.

I could build a 9 second VS Commodore for less than your late model 10 second R34 GT-R. But I'm guessing that's no longer what its all about when its against your prejudices instead of for it.

Or I could buy a brand new superbike and run 10s with a V-Max of over 300km/hr on my way out of the showroom floor, reassured that this level of performance comes with a full manufacturer's warranty.

Back on topic and in the land of lucidity, $80K might get you an older E46 M3. They're a nice GT. Comfy, refined, and reasonably quick. But, its no Porsche in terms of feel or badge cachet. If he's after something cruisier, you should be able to find a reasonable Mercedes coupe.

lol, interesting debate.

ive been lucky enough to get to drive a decent tuned r32gtr once. not soo lucky to drive a 04 911 turbo but had a good fang in one, i didnt think my mates uncle would let me drive it anyways. but we are really comparing "oranges to apples"

i just couldnt believe when i was in the porsche of how well it handled, car felt like it drove itself around the corners, it balanced itself even if u were over speeding into the corner and the "stability control" was.....boring yet safe to me.

the point is nissan never made the gtr to compete with the porsche 911 fullstop!

new gtr isnt even released so the full stats cant be compared. and how the hell is a 280 hp stock gtr get compared to a porky. this is a skyline forum offcourse ur gunna get hardcore support for the gtr. but any1 in their right mind would know that porsche is equiped with better technology than the r34gtr.

chill out guys, any 80k car would f**ken rock.

but for a more mature driver porsche>nissan imo

your missing the point

i am simply using the 10 second gtr as a generalisation for a fullhouse modified gtr . obviously you need to further modify and exploit its other areas . and i agree the gtrs strengths are not its strait line power output

same story though , i can build a much quicker car than a porche using a gtr as a base $ for $ . and thats the gtrs success

if you want smothness and niceties and comfortable ride , that wouldnt be a car for you tho

Second hand 997's for 90k... I'll take two! I think you'll find you'll get an old 3.4 996 for that price.

Philta: From most reports I've seen the GT-R was built to compete with the 911 turbo...

I agree... E46 M3, Optioned up 19s, SMG. Done deal >_<

Mate just bought one of these, in an Individual colour scheme.

350z_tech_20070319_boltebridge_15.jpg

He's ordering some optional 19" rims from the US for it, I think.

Its got a fair amount of poke in its stock trim - its noticably quicker than my Z in a straight line, its certainly more comfortable and of a better build quality.

Not sure how much a Convertible will go for, but the coupe's even more of a weapon.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
