did the skyline have cheap tyres and no grip? driven by a myopic orangutan?

ahh.. who knows hey? I hear so many of these stories on so many forums

if it was the hills ( windy ) and the celica had kick arse suspension and super grippy tyres

and the skyline had crap handling and no grip then who knows.

more power does not mean a quicker car.

ive got a relatively light modded 180sx probably what 100-140hp?? f**ks me.

. ive beaten a 300 horsepower R32 GTR,

coz the driver just couldnt drive.. he was shithouse.

suspension, driver ability, tyres, brakes, weight, gear/diff ratios

alot of different things make up the argument.

There are just too many factors in this argument...

For a start the roads in the hills are all 1 lane each way and depending on whereabouts it is, there are very few places to overtake.

It also depends on the skills of either driver, as others have mentioned. When I drive through the hills I'm always over-cautious so I dont push the limits on corners etc.

BUT

if we assume the drivers have equal ability and the cars are as described, then the skyline would walk all over it. :whistling:

A 110kw celica beating a 220-240kw skyline thru the hills? Is this unheard of?

I hear about it, and see it, on a regular basis. Winding road driving is more about driver skill than the car's power output. And the willingness of the driver to push it.

On the weekend I blew away a Ferrari F430, 360 Spyder, 575M and 355 Berlinetta through the Nasho. I'm willing to bet he wasn't driving as close to their limits as I was, though.

I've outrun plenty of turbo modified Silvias and Skylines, as well as a range of sports bikes, in a stock Pulsar SSS when we were both trying. Recently I've been getting smashed by Civics, Integras, RenaultSport Clios and NA S13s in my light-tune 350Z when I've been going as fast (and sometimes faster) than I feel comfortable doing. I've seen a 180awkW WRX being tailgated by a 70rwkW AE86.

Ok the celica got a 7,000 dollar suspension setup at the best... apparently.

The skyline will have a SK kit, and 18inch Racing hart cr rims.

That's alot to spend on suspension alone, if it's a road car. What sort of Celica?

There's only a few tight & twisty roads I know of in the Adel hills where underpowered, lighter & nimbler cars could better a 200kw+ whale, otherwise I also say it's the driver.

depends on driver n plus depends skyline could easily slide the back tyres celicas bein front wheel drive should have it's advantages

use to drive a lil lancer with 215/40/17 and had really good tyre n suspension setup but could easily beat ma 34 now on turns

shit my R34 is non turbo auto and i have raced new v8s and munched them off the line and pulled away from them..... its all about driver ability in the end...... what the driver is willing to risk to get ahead and to win....... its as simple as that..... obviously the cars power and performance has alot to do with it but having higher horsepower dont mean ur gunna have a quicker car....... like i said my bog stock non turbo automatic 96.5Kw RB25DE has decimated 300+Kw v8s makes me scratch my head to this date but meh.... just driver ability in the end

Why would you even bother to write something stupid like that on the forums!!

Without any modification list on both cars and its history!! Which hills?

There are millions of factors involved.. The driver comes in to factor also!!

Was it raining that day??

and so on and on..

But who knows, maybe the celica has better handling..

I got my ass wopped by a NA r33 thru the hills once.. Comes down to the driver and suspension setup.. Pretty sure my mate had coilovers and sway bars.. Mine is stock..

So having a turbo car didnt mean shit.. Im sure if he drove my car he could have driven it 10 times better..

So yea.. maybe the celica could win.. but comes down to so many factors..

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
