I'm pretty sure the HID kits are illegal to use on NSW and Vic roads. With HID kits installed in a R33, the light will be blinding on coming traffic. I've got some installed on my R32 which has projectors and I would have to say it's a pretty good improvement. I wouldn't recommend using HID kits on an R33.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

okay thanks for that... you reckon the xenon 100W halogen lamps wont melt the headlight lenses?

Not too sure about the 100W globes mate. Never used it personally. I've heard of quite a few people using it with no problems and quite a few people having problems.

Another path you can take is to do a retrofit. You can buy a whole kit off hidplanet.com. It includes original philips ballast and globes. I wanted to do this but I just need a quick and cheap upgrade.

Cheers

oh they arent? Damn i was on the lookout for a cheap upgrade as well.. and since HID's are not legal then the stuff from hidplanet doesnt make sense either.. sigh.. the things is I got 55W phillips globes on now and they aint way too bright and wayy too yellow for my liking. Ive heard that the phillips blue vision doesnt serve the purpose either

i got some narva globes - they are a better upgrade for a cheap price. Runs for 6 months to a year. Some people had problems with HIDs on the R33 or something - im not sure, u might have to search on this though

Hi there,

I have hids in my car i didn't install them they were already on the car when i bought it, I really like the way they light up road signs and the white lines on the road.

I have no idea on what rating they are like 4300 or 6000, but i understand how much glare there is to annoy other drivers, I am thinking of removing them and using plus 50 globes as i have them for the high beam, but not sure weather i can rewire them i can see the origional wires, do i use the plug for the hid and join it to those wires?

Anyway here are a few pics enjoy.!

:(

every 33 I have seen with HIDs looks like arse. They are blinding and light is going everywhere. if you have HIDs in your r33 i'd strongly advise not coming up to say high to me.

plus 50's well not looks like the best option.. where did you buy urs from?

got mine from a local auto shop - CarBitz on blackburn road in syndal, Vic. A pack of 2 was i think $40 or something. I believe the one i got was "artic blue" (h1 55W).

Edit - i was looking at my bros s2k lights the other night, and its no where near as bright or dispersed as xraiders hids. Perhaps custom instals are not a good idea - maybe compare what its like with a gtr (i believe they come with standard xids/hids)

From the looks of your pictures I would have to say that they're either 6000k or even 8000k.

If you want to install halogen globes, you have to take out the ballast resistor which is connected to your HID bulbs. The original wires should run into the ballast then the ballast to the HID globe if you're running the HID kit. If you want to install halogens, unplug the original wire from the ballast and connect the new globe to that.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that ive had a look and that sounds about right, i'm gonna put those plus 50 globes in i have them in the high beams and they are much better than the normal ones.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
