The HKS GT2535 is a great little turbo, one of my customers is running one on an stock RB25 and one 13PSI made 210rwkw, and previously on an RB20 he was making 197rwkw on ~1bar. In regards to the clutch unless it comes in boxes like pictured below it's not a genuine Exedy:

Grrr, pretty psssed off right now.

I'm a bit over mods and was happy to just enjoy my car.

There's $440 on a under-par clutch with $400 installation down the &^%&^%ing toilet

Thats really bad man. What pressure plate is it & what box did yours come in and did it have a new thurst bearing with it?

Thats exactly what I picked up yesterday.

5 PUK Brass button clutch, I think something like 1,200kg clamping pressure for the pressure plate.

Comes with new thrust bearing as pictured.

I had a 2535 on for a year. Great little turbo but god knows why you guys don't put some more boost in it. Running low boost it doesnt feel

anything special, nice progressive power, but nothing sensational. Dial in 20/21psi and it transforms the car significantly. You get midrange

that feels so leathel on the road. Comes on nice and strong in the middle and you don't have to ring its neck out to get power. Use the torque

in the middle. Enough to propel my car to a 12.1@116mph in full street trim.

Somebody asked about the VG30 hybrid ( or R34 GTT) high flow turbo from GCG.

I make a comfortable 250rwkw from mine on the RacePace (read conservative) dyno.

Poncams and all supporting hardware fueling.

The best thing is that it has about 100kph of power and boost.

Makes more than 240 rwkw from between 165kph and 210 kph.

That's what you call FAT

PS. More to come from that setup too, marginal top end gains now that my fuel supply probs are sorted.

Benno tells me that there is very little in it though as the engine is Choked by the exhaust housing. Looks like the back pressure in the exhaust manifold is just pushing the wastgate open and we can't keep stable boost over about 5000rpm.

Discuss.

Supposed to be a 1200kg pressure plate but the pedal feal is softer than standard

(don't know if that marries up to the pedal feal though)

The box was plain white. The left bit (haha, bell housing maybe?) was not pink and i got the Cushion Button kit for 260rwkws rated. 245 and slipping ????? I would expect to be able to go higher than the rating.

Who would rate clutch higher than what it can handle, you think they would under estimate to cover themselves....geeze.

Haha, yeah i know, you told me soo.

I'm happy with the punch i have now, its pretty good

Only 2-3psi off your figure.

Also had the spark issue and i don't wanna cough up for Splitfires.(assuming i would have had spark issues if dialing in more boost)

That’s not right at all..

I have driven 3 x cushion buttons and 1 x brass button.

The cushion buttons felt a lot more firmer with more pressure for some reason, and the brass button which was also in an R33 feels very light. The pedal it self isn't heavy but has a firm bite.

The cushion button I drove in the R32 was very heavy compared to the brass button in the R33, roughly twice as heavy, so not sure what the go is there?

But like stock? That cannot be right. I think the full-face organic clutches are slightly heavier than stock, cushion button the next one up from that, then brass button.

Contact SLIDE and ask him what the go is, definitely something sus I reckon.

There is no way that a cushion button can be lighter or as light as a stock clutch!

Yeah spark can be a problem. More boost means more spark blow outs. You have to balance the boost and the spark plug gap.

18psi is getting better, much better than 14.

I'm pretty happy Robo.

Never been to the drags but might have to, to see how it goes.

It's definatley got the midrange 'yeeehaarr' happenning.

I've sent SLIDE a PM about my clutch issues.

No idea what will happen there ?

How do you prove what you have without removing it?

Birnie, you might want to contact Jim Berry Clutches actually. I reckon he sells the best clutches in the market for a good price as well. I'm actually going to purchase a clutch which can support at least 300rwkw from him soon. Well, that's IF you're going to buy a new clutch :D

Yeah thanks, i knew about his but i would have thought 250rwkws to be conservative considering the figures thrown around these days. So a Exedy should be up to the task.....hmmmmm

To spend another $500 or so plus another $400 installation is rediculous.

I've got my PM response which is to remove and send it back for inspection by Exedy and then get a replacement if it's not up to scratch.

How am i or anyone else suppossed to do that?

Now looking at buying a second car so i can do all this bullshit.

Figure out how to remove it myself and send it back.

This is rediculous amounts of dollars down the toilet

thats a bitch mate. The thing is how do you prove it's not up to scratch? Exedy could just say that it was abused etc. Thats the problem with high performance cars and clutches. They might replace it but you dont know till it comes out etc. I guess they will check the claming force etc.

Either way you're looking at the labour. I think when I get my clutch done I might end up buying the clutch from the person installing it - then atleast there is some chance of recouping labour cost if clutch is not up to spec.

Sorry to hear your dramas. Just be careful if you do it at home..it looks like a heavy gearbox and not much clearance under the car. A few people on the forums would have done a clutch change at home - maybe it isnt that bad. Ive done a FWD one before that wasnt too bad. I think though for $350 to $400 I might just pay someone to do it if clutch needs replacing.

Apparently, if I am not mistaken, EXEDY don't offer warranty on performance/racing/sports clutches, only on standard replacements?

I'm sure the clutch would have held up fine witht that power if he actually got what he paid for.

I think the cause of all this is the pressure plate it self, not being an EXEDY pressure plate.

Talk to a clutch specialist first, they might be able to save you some time and worry.

If its the pressure plate not been up to the task you can bump the clamping pressure up. A clutch specialist will be able to do this for you. I have a nismo pressure plate (exedy) rated at 1200kg and they said they can put it to 1400kg.

Good Luck

Cheers

    • When you say your cams are 272/262 is that 272in and 262ex?
    • We're arguing semantics. I am saying 45 accel and a 55 deccel ramp are "2 ways". Even a 45 degree ramp and an 89 degree ramp is "2 ways", because it is literally... two ways. The cusco 55/30 ramp is a 2 way. It's two ways. I get it though - in normal nomenclature a "2 way" would be 45/45 or 55/55 or 60/60 i.e the same locking in both directions. And something like 45/65 would be considered "1.5 way". I would then say if we're getting into the nitty gritty then every locking diff is a "2 way" diff and we should not speak in 1.5, or 2 ways but ramp angles instead. Which ofc if one of those ramp angles is 90deg, that side is not doing any locking. :p So Nismo don't obviously sell 3 things. The fact of the matter that they only sell two items really goes to show that there's a 2 way and a "1,5 way" which is really a 1 way. I believe the actual lockup for the 'adjustability' of the GT pro is really just setting preload for when the ramps actually start locking up. It's not changing how much 'wayness' there is. It is (somehow) horribly explained. People just buy whatever diff and go "locks up good bruh" and that's what ends up on socials forever.
    • No, you're wrong, and you've always been wrong about this. The Nismo has 2 sets of openings. One is a real 2-way, and the other is a 1-way. There is no 1.5-way possible with the ramps that they offer. A real 1.5-way does exist. That Cusco stuff I posted is a prime example. If the forward drive ramps are, say 55°, and the overrun ramps are, say, 30°, then you will get about half as much LSD effect on overrun than you do on drive. It is real, it realy works. OK, you're slightly right. The Nismo has 55° and 45° ramps on the 2-way, so it does offer less LSD effect on overrun. But, I think that just means that they've (probably) sensibly established that you do not want actually equal LSD effect on overrun. You just want "quite a lot, but not quite as much as the drive LSD effect".
    • Just wanted to unearth this and post my baby with the new front ❤️😝 Took her to my wedding rehearsal today. Next up is getting wide skirts (after wedding)
