i agree stock turbos sound shithouse with a screamer pipe, a big external wastegate though venting to atmo sounds AWESOME but just in regards to the fines.. i recently went over the pits, no cat and screamer... nothing wrong.. and also my mate 04RNZ in an rx3... t66 high mount turbo, no intake pipe/filter, no mufflers, screamer pipe, went over the pits and was out as quick as he came in and nothin happened to him... i think nsw is a little tougher as i lived there, but still out of all the car enthusiasts i know, and deal through with work, i have never seen/heard a fine issued that big.... i do remember seeing a guy get done for excessive noise, but no EPA fines..also my bro inlaw just had his screamer pipe put on his rx7 and got pulled over, nothing came from that, and everything was fine...

ok everyones bitchin about stuff, i know of two people who have had $9000+ dollar fines for screamer pipes they are a major defect which requires the vehicle to be returned to stock before it can be driven again....

Your mates got reamed then. How can they require you to return your car to stock because ONE thing doesn't comply. You are required to make the defecting thing comply with the law and that is ALL you don't have to rip off all your other legal mods just because you got done for one thing. If the two people you know did do as they were told they were very ill advised. The police cannot require you do remove modifications that are legaly applied simply as punishment for breaking a rediculous EPA law. I say it again atmo screamer pipes off large turbo's/wastegates not only sound tough, they give less restrictive flow....same goes for exhausts. Straight through is the only way!!!

+2

I swear so many people on here know someone who knows something who did something who received something, so many missed guided people

how can you tell if your cat is gutted? had the exhaust off when i changed the gearbox and it looked awfully empty... :P

Maybe just weld the cat heat sheild to the pipe so it looks like there's something there :(

Also screamer pipes & 2 flames FTW!

But turning a stock turbo to screamer is the gayest thing since brokeback mountain

1.) if this is for sound, just loosen one of your dump pipe bolts..

the gasket will burn out on that corner and you will hear the same stupid god awful screaching sound of an exhaust leak... this is exactly how a stock turbo, internal wastegate to atmo will sound.

2.) I work for QLD Police.... they can and will fine you the $10K...

As with any cop.. it depends on the individual cop who stops you. and your attitude at the time.

I train with a couple of them who were so annoyed with the individual driver with a bad attitude that they made an example of them..

Also, unless you have an engineers certificate for "ANY" modification from stock, you can be made to remove it.

so the guy above where his mates had to return to stock is very much possible.

de-reg and dodgey road worthy will be and has been found out before too.

that caused a larger fine than the so called mythical $10K fine..

make of this what you will.

    • Just had this happen to me too.  R32 GTR.   Also broke "just before going out onto the track" - someone up there is looking out for us... Very scary since I was about to do a narrow street course with zero run-off and curbs everywhere. Many people on here upgrading to billet uprights and R35 bearings?   Or buying new OEM knuckles?  I am not keen to replace with another s/h 30 year old fatigued part.
    • Top off with distilled water and see what happens. If you keep losing coolant then you know to start looking.
    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
