Hi guys,

I sent my 34 off to be tuned and for a secondhand avcr to be installed.

The car was tuned with a safcII and i was told that it wont produce more than 6psi boost.

It appears the avcr is not doing anything..

the display etc is all working but it looks like the solenoid is not responding to anything..

So they said SOLENOID is busted.

now has anyone heard of this occurance.

I have found a solenoid on Nengun from apexi for an AVCR.. so I can get a replacement part at around $130.

Are there other solenoids that will do the job..

Are there any tests i can do to make sure the solenoid is baked. ?

anyways 6psi tune produced 237hp on an auto 34.. so i guess its a start

Is the solenoid all hooked up properly? If its working, u can hear the avcr solenoid tick away, its loud enuff to be obvious when driving n boosting. A dead solenoid is possible, the electrics of an EBC seldom fail, if anything dies, its usually the solenoid. And no u can't run other solenoids, it's already good that Apexi sell just the solenoid cuz some others don't and they will need a whole new ebc. Go with getting a new solenoid from nengun if the solenoid's dead. Apart from the long waiting time, nengun's prices are prolly the best u can find around.

Hi,

check they have put the hoses on the solenoid the right way around (COM to wastegate and NO to IC piping) also problem could be pressure sensor but i dont think so... if it's hooked up right turn the car on and see if you can hear it working (might be hard to hear)

Don't really know what else, hope it helps

So i guess i will grab the install instructions and make sure the TUNER has installed it correctly.

Hopefully its something as stupid as that *fingers crossed*

But if its all the right way i will grab the solenoid from nengun.

Does anyone know if the AVCR actually can report is something is wrong?

Is there an electrical test i can do with a multimeter to see if the avcr is actually pulsing the solenoid.. I dont know too much about multimeters.. but could possibly figure it out

Just put 12V across the solenoid and see if you can hear it.

If you cant, then test the output of the AVCR to the solenoid using a multimeter. (Check for voltage across the terminals when it is connected and the AVCR is meant to be sending a signal to the solenoid.)

  • 2 weeks later...

okay finally got round to doing this

the solenoid ticks when i touch 12v to the pink wire and ground the black wire

so if it is ticking this means it ISNT dead... is that right?

I moved the pressure sensor to just where the fuse box it.

so its a short run of hose.

it was mounted in the corner nearest the driver in the engine bay.. so was at least double the length before.

the BST reading on the avcr when the car IS boosting.. never reaches positive MMHG

so i am going to double check the wiring to the ecu...

could the pressure sensor be Kaput.

Sounds like a wiring issue.

Car is actually making boost right?

Now, you have an external boost guage right? And it shows 6PSi?

If you get the car to say 3PSi, does the AVC-R read 00mm-hg or does it actually read something less?

If it's less then it sounds like a setup issue.

If it's 00mm-hg, then it sounds like the boost sensor is sending out the same signal as soon as it hits boost.

Like it's maxing out.Strange.

i am fuming right now

I paid a workshop to do this for me..

anyways went through all the instructions step by step

the sensor was NOT set correctly..

manual says DO NOT USE 3 times for the other options and tells you which one to use..

so i changed it.. and walla..

now its boosting and the solenoid has activity

the duty cycle was set to 90%

car didnt like

have dummed it to 30%

i am taking it back to the TUNER rofl

I am going to ask for a retune as i paid good money the first time for an incorrect job

thanks for the help lads.. i may post up a result.

    • An update regarding the registration with the DVLA I sent off the paperwork the day after I collected the car from the port, two weeks later it was all returned with a letter explaining they have rejected the application. This was because the cheque was £20 short for the road tax (I used a price list I found online). Nevermind it is what it is, it was sent back to them the following day with a new cheque. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, I called them for an update to be told it had been rejected. Yesterday (16th September) I received the documents back along with another letter, this time it was because I didn't put an X in one box on the V750 (personalised number plate certificate), which declared that I had the rights to the personalised number plate. Why this wasn't mentioned in the first rejection letter, I don't know, but it could have saved this headache. The documents were sent back today, so fingers crossed third times a charm and it'll FINALLY be registered on the road just in time for the bad weather (woohoo!) To cheer myself up I lowered the front 25mm, was sick of seeing it sit like a monster truck. No idea how much clearance I'll have getting on and off the driveway, I'll worry about that when I can actually drive it

    • A few little updates that weren't filmed due to not taking long to do or not interesting enough for their own video. My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) Also threw in a cup holder and a (empty) Boss Coffee can, because why not
    • GT-R clearly the better choice! The 300 is certainly not insaly fast but has a decent amount of poke. Does a nice little drift around the corners with a decent amount of throttle. It's VERY predictable in a slide too.  Feels so progressive! People probably presume there's a 25 year old driving it based on my behaviour this week! 🤣
