Hi,

I know I've posted this before but things have probably changed in the past 6 months, I've had a look at this thread:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...p;#entry3155248

And noticed there are some new GPS tracked alarm systems around.

I'm currently deciding whether to go with QuikTrak, or go down the route of a cheaper GPS alarm system that calls me when somethings wrong.

What GPS tracked alarm systems are around these days with the paging option?

(I'm going quiktrak if the insurance company gives me a decent discount :)).

Also if you know good Melbourne based installers to talk to about the products that would be great.

Regards,

Gareth

you can try a Python or a Viper alarms then add a gps/gsm module to the alarm. The module will sms your phone if the alarm is triggered, you can also track your car via sat. Try the Directed website.

You can also ring Zylux about the Quiktrak they can help you with it.

Mongoose sells a SMS module which hooks up to your mongoose alarm.

Although the price of alarm + mongoose sms module equals the same as quiktrack installation (although you dont pay $300 per year with pager)

http://mongoose.com.au/new-releases/mtp.php

it doesnt do a lot though. the DEI one does tracking via website for a few hundred more and you can control things on the car via SMS. I prefer these units over the mongoose one. they are also locally built. the mongoose one isn't.

Interesting, Mongoose is a well known brand but close to quiktrak price is expensive although the savings on the monitoring will be nice

Autowatch was recommended in another thread, does anyone know much about them?

I haven't heard good things about viper so far...

Do DEI have a website?

I found some results in google but I may be looking at the wrong website.

Gareth

Hi,

Tried STI electronics but only found a soldering company.

I've found this website:

http://www.directed.com/Products/Security/Default.aspx#

DEI appears to be a group of companies marketed under multiple brand names so I'm confused what people are referring to as "DEI".

Is there a particular model?

EDIT: just read the site and looks like there is one model called the 210C in the different brands, its roughly $100/year to gets the sms's and everything. It looks like all there brands are selling the same product for GPS tracking :)

Or would you recommend the Autowatch 456 + CATE800 solution?

Regards,

Gareth

thats the US based one. its not there. give me an email addy and I'll send you the literature on it. there is a LOT of DEI gear that is made locally that is NOT listed there.

to me the DEI solution is easier to implement but the CATE is more secure. there is a newer version of it due soon that drops a few things off but fucntionality is the same.

this is the STI site for GPS position.

I'll have these products listed on the shop site eventually (when time permits.)

Sorry to drag up this old thread again, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying the Autowatch 446Premium, just wondering with the above comments when the new version of CATE was getting released?

Otherwise I'll stick with the GiSMo / Directed product that does the SMS/send/control functionality, I just need to find good installers in Victoria.

Gareth

    • My apologies. I forgot we were talking about weird beard M series stuff. Had been talking elsewhere with someone about an R33 with similar subject and got confused.
    • Nope, I don't like the look of ND RF, or any ND really, I don't like their faces or arses, why, because of their "modern" lines, the NC, whilst "modernish" has a more rounded shape that I like Well, that's how my overly judgemental eyes see it anyway
    • Should be more than fine, especially the overall fuel pressure would never exceed 3.5bar (assuming that thing never gets more than 0.5bar of boost in stock form). According to the chart, it's 11amps.
    • I definitely know the first rule here, look first, ask second. I've seen many people get roasted 😂 I found a few diagrams for the RB, but I'm yet to come across one for the VQ. From what I have read, the pump gets the +12v along with the FPCM, and it's the negative wire that gets passed through the resistor to regulate the voltage. So I assume I can just ground the negative wire at the pump to eliminate the FPCM control. But I really wanted to see the VQ circuit diagram first to make sure I understood it correctly. Once the new pump is in I'll do some testing to see how it behaves, and in the meantime, I'll keep looking for a wiring diagram. Thanks for your help mate, your time is greatly appreciated.
    • Maybe? I have the Supercheap ToolPro low thingo. It has a somewhat smaller diameter lifting "bowl" than you would expect on a workshop grade trolley jack, and a split rubber pad to suit that diameter. It clears the "N1" style skirts I have. Probably wouldn't if the jack's bowl and a suitably larger rubber block were in use. Having said that though.....you only need the rubber block to exist on the inner side of the pinchweld, so could carve away any rubber that fouled the skirt, leaving some there for "insurance" </simples>
