Hi guys

after alot of discussion i had with the gt3540, i ended up selling it as the rear housing was going to be too big for my liking on the street.

So changing my mind every 5 secs, i went with the gt30r turbo, having it high mounted, wide mouth dump, 44mm external wastegate.

With ppl that "have" done this setup, whats the go with putting on a braided water return line (runs from the back oof the block) ?

Can it be cut and a connector go onto the existing water line, or does it have to be removed altogether and put a whole new braided line on, hopefully this makes sense. Just looking at the water line, im trying to figure out how ya get the friggin line off?

Also, ppl that have gt30r with the .82 rear, what power have you made on your r33, ( i was going through the rb25det upgrade page, but most ppl dont specify what rear housing they have, and just want to know if ppl are making it close to the 400rwhp.

Also if you have pics of your high mount setup with this turbo, and any altercations along the way, that you had to deal with?

I have all fuel mods done, FMIC, AVCR, Z32 afm, 3" exhaust, with hiflow cat.

Also considering cams later on after this has been done

Yes you can cut the steel pipe and fit olive fittings.

The turbo is capable 350+ rwkw but don't think a stock motor will let you achieve that type of figures.

If you do get the turbo, go for the v-band exhaust housing.....everything else is straight forward.

would a person that deal with making custom braided oil and water lines, know how to do this?

i will be looking at getting cams later, hopefully, but if engine goes bang then rebuild will be last resort

Yeah some like enzed or pirtek will know what to do.

Are you 100% sure mate this turbo would be caperbale of 350rwkw with only a .5 front cover?

sorry mate but there is no chance it will make 350rwkw. They aren't big enough. And they certainly won't do that with a 0.5 cover.

Paul you would know better than many/most that all GT30s are not created equal. It covers a HUGE range of mass-flow and performance capabilities. Just because Ash achieved such a large figure doesn't follow that everyone will.

The 0.50 comp cover tells us little about the compressor ASSEMBLY. What size impeller is this thing running? Off the shelf you can spec 71, 76 and 82mm, with a variety of trims and specs. And assuming that it has the 60mm turbine rotor, what A/R is the turbine housing?

The only thing that is a certainty is that the specs of each side will determine the mass-flow throughput potential, and efficiency. But it will be the TUNE that determines ultimately what it makes :D

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
