Hey just letting you all know that the newly converted BP on Clyde road in Berwick are passing off regular unleaded as BP ultimate. Previously it was a discount servo and i think they are still selling the old petrol.

On friday i went there and filled up what was supposed to be ultimate. While filling up the petrol smelt different to what i was used to but it didn't click till i drove off. About 400 metres down the road i gave the car a little throttle and it felt like absolute shit. No power. When i got home my catalytic converter sounded load and tinny. Anaywayz didn't drive it all day saturday but when i tried to start it on sunday it coughed and spluttered and had trouble idling. There was also a rattling noise coming from the top of the engine. I let it warm up and then putted to the next closest BP where i immediately noticed the difference in smell when filling up. Drove it home nice and easy and noticed it was idling better and sounded back to normal. I then reset the computer and drove it around and it felt much better but it's still not the same.

Can i report this to anyone? Surely labeling fuel something its not must be a serious offence.

My mods are:

Anyway thats my rant. Just alerting those thinking about filling up in this area.

Mate i had the same problem from the same place

i went in and seen them and spoke to the attendent..

I told him what i thought about it not being Ultimate..

Now this is what he told me..

When it was the home brand servo they only sold 91 and 95 2 tanks for the unleaded 1 tank for the 95..

Now they have 98 they had to put the ultimate in to the tank with the unleaded so 1 tank for each..

So they are having 98 delivered but its getting mixed with other fuel...

I dont use this servo any more..

Thanks for replying Wayne. With the number of skylines in our area i was sure someone else had to encounter the same problem.

wow u must have a super human nose to be able to smell the difference. Ever considered a job in the wine industry?

yeah being a petrol sniffer back in the day has its benefits of being able to distinguish a good quality high from a shit one. It was always the best for me. :D

2 Things:

1, did you get a sample of it?

2, do you have the tax receipt which has all the details on it..

If not, could be a bit of an issue proving much..

if he was to report it to ACC, they dun need receipts and proof

u should know by now they just find a story and add shit to it to make it interesting

i think they mean ACCC Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, not A Current Affair.

All petrol smells the same. You can tell the difference between the brands by the color of the fuel. They put different color dyes in each so they can be told apart with out being in a lab, Ultimate is a Yellow color from memory. It is common for petroleum brands to put a new product (IE:Ultimate) into an existing tank that has been used, they all do it. I would be careful making accusations that you either haven't or can't prove because you may get this site into trouble. BP have a guarantee on all their petroleum products, if you have your tax receipt you can call them on 1300 1300 27 and make a complaint

I dont think proving it would be a drama

They didnt put in a new tank..

So they had do put the 98 into something

1..A dirty old rusty tank

OR

2 A tank that already had home brand unleaded in it..(winner)

really, i swear it smells sickly and feral, never notice it when putting 91 in the rolla, always gag when line/val gets filled, next time u go check it out

*not to self, stop sniffing petrol* :P

To make a fuel quality complaint you have to go through the Department of the Environment and Water Resources. If anyone wants to make a complaint about the quality of fuel they are receiving heres the link:

Are you kidding me!? I filled up there last night on my way to Pakenham to see a mate. If this is true I’m going to severely maim and disfigure whoever is responsible. The bottom line is you should get what you pay for end of story, and considering I just unloaded sixty odd dollars on them when I could have just as easily gone down the local Safeway servo, gotten the mud they use and saved even more money by using a docket. I didn’t really notice a difference in my car, but then again I was jus cruising at low revs, tacho peak at the end of the trip was 3.8k

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.
    • I have the re003s’ on my 06 XT Forester Turbo and I highly rate them for street wet and dry
    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent.
    • Remember, take original quote. Double it. Then add a bit more. It's how any project goes.
    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
