*sigh*

well i guess any hope of joining the skyline community is gone. haha

im sure ill see you guys in a few years once im off my p's and driving my dream car.

you dont need a skyline to be involved 'round here. im sure you are more than welcome to bring what ever car you have to the meets and events happening around where u are. meantime, hang around, you'll learn a hell of a lot bout the car you want simply by osmosis on these forums

well this is gonna hit some of us real hard

yeah it is dude. i think of it this way, if im not allowed on public roads with my car, then its the perfect opportunity to mod it properly. that way it doesn't matter if its held up in a workshop somewhere. and also its an incentive to get more involved with sauvic motorsport/events etc (at least i'll be enjoying my car)

The modifying restriction is ONLY stated on the NEW PPlate restrictions.

The page in regards to Current PPlaters, only states to abide to the Power:Weight ratio.

I dont think they will be asking current Pplaters to start pulling mods off their cars..

why not pat? i mean they can defect us for anythiing right now, how is this any different?

EDIT: i realise that they can't do shit if the mods are legal, so ignore the above point i made

Agreed.

+1. No need to rub it in :P

i just messaged the guy about the car. he said its only the muffler that is modified not the exhaust, does anyone know if this helps me or does this also increase power?

The rear muffler is the biggest restiction in the exhaust system (not that the rest is any good), so by removing that and replacing it with a free flowing muffler you are going to increase the power, thus it becomes illegal. The seller is going to say what-ever you want to hear, so that you'll buy his car, but ALL power related mods are illegal.

To current P-platers (not sure if this is true)

- If your car is impounded and the cops beleive it is making more power than factory, they have a right to dyno it and issue the penalty if found over the legal power-to-weight ratio.

wtf? it says that P-Platers arent allowed to drive s15s? thats bs. the ADM model is rated at 147kw, says 165kw on that list. wat a crock of sh!t. i just bought myself an s15 thinking id be alright for the next 2 years while im on my Ps. :P thats a load of horsecrock of a source to get power figures from.

That's a list of imported cars, the JDM S15 has those figures, there's another list of banned Aus vehicles which includes the R32 GTR

I initially thought these laws where going to be stupid (but didn't care as I'm not on Ps) , but as they've allowed turbo diesels and smart cars it looks like they've actually put some thought into it.

stress less mate... i have another 1.5 years on my p's too... and i just bought an adm S15 too... we are perfectly safe

just if a cop tried to fine you for it... inform them that its the australian delivered model with 147kw, not the jap model that has 184kw

i am confused, that says you cant drive a R33 on your p plates but i see them all the time :S

Yes you do see R33 gts-t 's with p plates all the time.... however they are breaking the law, and quite often get caught, i know i did... lol that photocopied excel spread sheet you see posted above was given to me by the local copper ... hence the dash next to r33 gts-t 2 door ... but people continue to drive them.. .. there is an astronmocial amount of r33 gts-t's on carsales at the moment... keep watching that figure come 1st july.... it will increase ten fold!

and then what will we have $5000 r33's most likely lol

LOL at the coppers dynoing cars to check for power.

I had an argument with a Police officer about the power to weight crap whilst I was in an apprentices Bommodore.

Now as I worked for holden at the time, I had the official Holden weight of a VS series 1 ss with the options this car was fitted with at 1610 KGS.

The coppers paper work said the car weighed 1300 KGS. The Police use unladen figures, which is a car with no fluids at all, no accessories, and in the case of the VS Commodore, of a Manual Non AC V6 Executive, and not the actual weight of the car being driven which was a fully optioned V8 Automatic barge.

Either way, I am an old prick so the rules wont affect me, but seriously, can you imagine it.

Cop pulls over some 18 year old in an old 120y.

COP; I believe this vehicle is banned from being driven on your probationary license.

P-PLATER; Why?

COP; It has an open air filter allowing an extra .025kw increase.

Not that I'm totally against P-Platers or something (I only recently came off my Ps) but I think the laws are good.

The main reason being, when I was on my Ps, I used to do some really dumb stuff, particularly in my first year of driving.

All of my mates have done stupid stuff on their Ps.

At the time, you think you're the best driver in the world, but you make so many mistakes and later on you think,

damn that was close or stupid. I know this isn't the case for ALL P Platers, but it is for the majority (of males at least.)

But experience is a major factor in safe driving and you don't realise it until you have some. Now that I've got some early

experience I can tell (and I know) I'm a much safer drive, I can analyse risk better and I'm less inclined to do stupid stuff (albeit still inclined.)

Sure, who is to say people off thier Ps don't do silly things that endanger their lives and others, but in my experience being a P Plater and

hanging around with other P Platers, you are MUCH more inclined to do it on your Ps and because of your lack of experience, you're more

likely to get into some form of trouble.

Taking the right to drive a GTR from an 18 y.o is a good thing.

I bought a r33 GTS non turbo4 door back in dec 06, Im 17, getting my Ps the 18th of july and getting extractors and full exhaust done this Tuesday.

Iuno whats gona happen ill wait and see when im on my Ps i guess :)

Would they fine you $1000 and take away 3 demerit points for having engine modifications?

It's gonna be pretty hard for those who want to be in the Jap car scene to buy a car without atleast one engine mod. Chances are, the car's going to have a pod or an exhaust.

Cheers,

Adam

You bring up some good points there, some of which i can and im sure most others can relate to, but you say this now that youre off your p's, i bet if you were still on them you wouldnt be as supportive of them...the inconvenience, the money involved, the time, the headaches in buying and selling cars, now trying to source stock parts makes all this a real pain in the arse.

As it always has and always will, it all comes down to driver attitudes and behaviour, its not really the cars.

As its been said before you can still do 180 and go sideways in an excel if you wanted.

P.S Got a feeling stock parts are going to become just as costly as aftermarket stuff, so hold onto your stocky parts!

.....As its been said before you can still do 180 and go sideways in an excel if you wanted.

Just because it's been said before, doesn't make it a valid comparison.

...a more valid comparison would be something along the lines of...

"which would you rather be standing in front of, in the hands of someone with little experience.... a bb gun, or an M16?"

All vehicles have the potential to be lethal weapons, but a vehicle which can reach high speeds over a short distance is much more likely to cause death or permanent/serious injury to passengers, innocent victims, and the driver who is convinced that "it won't happen to me".

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
