Well, I bit the bullet an ordered one today. I knew I'd have to get one sooner or later. And in this case it was sooner rather than later, as the Harbour Bridge is going cashless on 8/7 and the tunnel on 7/7.

I ended up getting the RTA tag on the infrequent 'plan'. Cheapest of them all from what I have seen - $40 deposit, $20 minimum top up, $20 minimum balance.

Who here was an early adopter, and which one do you have?

I have tags on all my vehicles, they're all the RTA one. I used to have eway but

sent them back because when I went to get a tag for my bike, eway said:

a) their tag won't work on a bike

b) I would pay a $10 'admin' fee every time it didn't work

c) I had to pay a monthly fee whether they were used or not

The RTA tag is, to my knowledge, the only 'supported' tag for a bike.

I'm also pretty sure that it doesn't have the $10 'admin' fee for tag read failure.

('admin' is in quotes because it's ridiculous to me that I should pay eway for the failure of _their_ product)

Saliya

Got mine a while ago. (RTA E-tag) got the infrequent user but ended up changing it cause tolls are so expensive.

M7 + M2 + Lane Cove Tunnel + Harbour Bridge = F***** UP!!!!

but it was the quickest way to get to the city so had to be done

LOL and i thought i was getting pumped just on the M2 hahaha

yeah.. the trip from west into the city is ridiculous! and we don't even get a cashback like the m4 and m5! GHEY!!! why should we have to pay cause its not owned by the government! there should at least be a limit to what they can charge!!

RRRAAAAAGGGGGEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they stopped charging ppl the toll for one of the roads where my family lives in Florida, people complained that they were being charged after the company made the money back for the road....

so they said ok and stopped charging..

the worst bit is, they were charging less than $1 for the toll... it was like 35 cents..

I wish sydney could be organised enough to come together against this obviousl f**king highway robbery.

Create another lane, drop the speed to 70, charge more money...

its bullshit.

I got an RTA tag years ago too.

You know what's really fked up? The RTA commissions that they create two lane freeways just about everywhere, and then 5-10 years later they decide it should have had 3-4 lanes each way instead. It actually costs them a ridiculously disproportionate amount above and beyond to do it this way instead of just making it 3 or 4 lanes each way in the first place! And the 3 lane areas are in the areas where there's LESS of a concentration of people and traffic - what's the story with that? Do they not have ANY sense of logic?

Speaking of useless tolls, why are we still paying to use the Harbour Bridge?

we're on the one that direct debits a hunj every time the balance goes low.

the way it works is they start off with 2 lanes and charge a set amount when they first build it. then when the govt comes in and says, "ok, you've had your run, take the price down". they reply with

"we'll build a bridge to free traffic going from X to X" or, "we'll build another lane down the highway between X and X", "so we'll keep the price as it is, then once its finished we'll jack it up a few cents".

then the government says "ok".

thats why theres always work being done to the motorways. just so the price stays up. concrete costs less per m3 than any other building material so it'll cost them a few hundred thousand dollars to build but in the end make them another million.

the government has been doing this with the m5 and the m2 for years.

ive had an E Tag for years!

i cant believe they are finally going cashless on the tunnel, they were meant to do it in 04, i used to work in the north and still live in the east and had to que for the farken e tag lane in the tunnel while the que for the cash lanes were just as big... farken hell get an etag, go like melbourne where you just drive through no worries... all those hours sitting in traffic so some f**kwit could stumble around their ashtray for coins!

Now i go through the CCT everyday to work and dont worry about it.. but damn it should have been done so long ago...!

Since we are paying for these tolls! the government could atleast fix the FARKEN ROADS!

I got the RTA one, since you could choose not to use it and there was no penalty.

With the ones owned by private enterprises, they'd charge you an "inactivity fee" if you never went through a tollway or something. I can't remember if you had to pay an admin fee or your credit had an expiry time, but either way you lost out if you didn't use a tollway regularly.

I don't think any of the tags are supported for bikes. None of them is waterproof for a start and if you try to attach it to your bike someone might steal it. Maybe I should glue it to my helmet.

I use the RTA one and have done for a long time. It costs nothing more than the tolls you go through even if the thing doesn't beep, you just fax off your number and you're away.

Im confused!!

I got mine the other week from Roam Express

30 bucks tag and when it goes to 15 it gets topped up

I hardly use the tolls - basically only to goto OP or EC and thats hardly ever...oh...now maybe Lane cove tunnel

Mines all good??

I didnt relise there were heaps of different types of tags around....
