well I nearly got a in a fight with a cabbie the other day. he farken ripped me off. it wasn't my money (cabcharge) but the principal of the thing pissed me off. the problem was I had a tomei stroker crankshaft worth a few thou in the boot and the bastard refused to open it so in the end I gave in and resisted the urge to strangle him in front of my office. nasty.

I regularly get cabs home from work (Cabcharge), and they are the only people that manage to really scare me on the road. Their inability to drive to conditions, stay in one lane, negotiate traffic smoothly, use indicators, or maintain constant throttle/speed beggars belief.

The fact that they also disable their airbags and ABS, and don't wear seatbelts, freaks me out considering idiots like this would be more likely to crash than middle aged, pissed, old blokes driving down the Great Western Highway.

I used to think that if you did something for long enough, eventually you gain enough experience to stop sucking at it. But cabbies seem to be an exception. Learner drivers have better car control than your typical cab driver.

being arrogant, they just reinforce their bad driving habits 13 hours a day instead. lol

I was gonna ask about that, are they somehow exempt, or just dumb-ar$es? I've probably caught a cab maybe three times in 5 years, but I've always noticed this.

The last think I want to happen if I get in an accident is for one of these clowns to injure me due to the fact that they were bouncing around during an accident they likely caused...

:(

They're making a living driving cabs, not doing practical astrophysics or neuro-surgery....let alone driving in WRC or F1. What have they got to be arrogant about?

I've been really tempted to just go absolutely nuts abusing a cabbie a few times; if I wasn't telling them where I lived I probably would. I have, at least twice in the last few years, told a cab driver to just pull over and let me out because I was not going to go any further with him.

If I remember correctly (and IANAL) when the laws were brought in making seat belts compulsary cab drivers were given an exemption, because they have to spend so long in the car and its uncomfortable.

I don't get it. I feel uncomfortable not wearing a seatbelt when I'm driving, but then I also use it to hold me in place as drive around at my favoured pace.

maybe instead of the tv doing a thing on hoons every 2 weeks, they should do an investigation into cab drivers?

get a undercover police officer to go for a ride with a hidden camera to some destination. and at the end of the ride give the cabbie a fine for all the driving offences they have done.

one night on the way back from north sydney at late at night, my mates and i got a cab back home......

- the driver only knew if he was in the lane by the line markers (noise of hitting them),

- he never used an indicator but was changing lanes every 400 metres (dont know if he meant to change lanes?)

- at one point there was a sydney water truck stopped in the middle of the road doing work.... and the cabbie didnt realise he wasnt moving till we just about hit it..... (scared the crap out of me as we got closer)

- he did a 3 point turn in a thin street where there was double lines

- when we said to stop and let us out he kept driving another 50-100m

the guy seemed like he was half dead

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
