So basically ive got $35,000 to spend including the buying of the car.

Selling my 180sx right now and im upgrading to a R32 GTR.

I was thinking $20,000 for a basic nice condition GTR so that would leave me with about $15,000 to play with.

My question is what mods should i get and what would be the power ill be looking at most probibly a good question for people that have already gone down a similar path what quater miles do you run aswell.

Oh and my names Rory nice to meet you all :P

do everything at once to save some time and money on re-tunes.

I bought a stockish car and went down a similar path to you. First off i fixed any mechanical issues with the car like brakes, belts, fluids, 100k service. Make sure the engine is healthy to save you pulling it apart during the build up.

Then i collected...

turbos GT-SS

injectors (sard)

cam gears (arospeed)

fuel pump (nismo)

afms (nismo)

dumps (tomei)

Power FC

02 sensors (nissan)

metal cat :P

Coil packs (splitfires)

....and fitted everything apart from the turbos/dumps and cam gears myself to again save money. I paid a little extra and went for some nismo components for ease of install.

im still hoping to run a mid-high 11 with a bit over 400rwhp.

The car already came with a twin plate, exhaust, bilstein shocks, eibach springs, ARC cooler and Greddy hard pipe kit.

I know its an old engine but it makes power early which enables me to keep revs below 7500rpm, hopefully prolonging its life a little longer.

I only boost once oil is over 70 degrees celcius also.

Welcome aboard Rory!

Basically i want to get as much "SAFE" power possible out of the rb26 without doing any internals. Will probibly keep it like that for a while and just save alot to be able to build the engine all at once internally.

Was thinking of somewere along the lines of getting this for now:

2 new turbos "What size is appropriate for no internal work and max safe tune power"

cam

injectors

fuelpump

powerfc

boost controller

exhaust

pods

Would i need an oil cooler and stuff or isnt that needed untill your really pushing for more power and going passed that safe point.

Also what is the safe point in a rb26 owning a 180sx i know the sr20 safe point can go upto 280rwhp and then youll have to start looking at building a stronger engine.

400rwhp is a figure a lot of original engines are still able to push out fairly reliably

The turbo choice for a non built motor would be GT-SS's, garrett 2860-7s or -5s, & 2530s.

A stock motor wont be able to completely push the -5s or 2530s though but would serve well in the mean time if you needed to rebuild the engine later

An oil cooler is a good idea for a rb that sees trackwork.

Look for a GTR with a built motor, you'll find one floating around the 35k range easily enough.

A 20k GTR is going to be average at best

Better doing it that way then buying a 32, and then lean on the motor and little and it goes pop.

Then all of a sudden your 15k is totally blown away :P

You can get a nicely modified gtr these days in the high 20's, then just keep the extra $5k for changeover, insurance and anything minor that needs doing.

Sure buying a stockish gtr and pumping $15k into it might be alot of fun but its definitely the most expensive way of going about it.

im even with the other guys...buy one with a good built motor. I looked for a while in WA when i was buying but couldnt find anything.

But hey, if you want to build one yourself and be sure of the condition then theres a guideline there

    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
