Hi flow cat - Power

Mandrel bent - Power

a good cat back - Power

Muffler - +10 on wanker scale and louder..

and yes.. mufflers are included on cat backs..

Personally.. go the second of your options.. i.e. Hi flow cat (may now have MASSIVE benefits on a low power NA car).. mandrel bent 2.5" and a muffler.. this it would suite your wants best

dont know much about Xforce products.. or their quality..

Best to do research.. Save and get good quality (like coby) headers.. a full manderl bent 2.25 - 2.5" exhaust.. cat.. and muffler..

  • 1 year later...

didn't want to start another new thread on a worn out topic so i thought i'd re-use this one

i've just had a new intake and full exhaust put on my car. picked it up this morning from my mate after i've come back from a weeks holiday.

driving the car home 20mins has left my head feeling numb and ears ringing from the loudness and the drone.

the full exhaust comprising of HPC Coby's, high flow cat, custom mandrel SS 2.5" exhaust, oval muffler with twin tips for factory look. I'm seriously regretting it at the moment and want my factory exhaust back on.

it's been suggested to me to put an oval resonator in but i'm not sure if that alone will be enough to quieten the noise and remove the drone. i'm also thinking a new muffler as well.

so i seeking some help from those who have actually had this dilemma and what did you do to fix it?

Reggie.

Ive got a 2.5" catback mandrel bent exhaust custom made.

cant even hear it on idle, but it begins to roar after 3000rpm.

i LOVE it because people are astounded about the difference between how quiet it is during idle, and how nice the grunt is at high rpm.

going to get a new high flow cat soon...not sure If i want to buy Xforce though...

Reggie ive got a resonator on mine, works a treat.

p.s. mine droned quite a bit for a few weeks....so give it sometime and see if it quietens down after a while...

When I was talking to one of the guys at Rob Bliss Exhaust a few months back, he said that oval barrel twin tip on an N/A will drone and they haven't been able to get rid of that drone. Seems like it's a characteristic of that muffler.

I was thinking of going for the twin tip factory look as well when I end up doing my exhaust, but the noise I guess will offset that factory like side of it. You could always get a factory twin tip of a GTR, that should flow plenty for an N/A and keep things quieter.

when i first put the 2" system on the SSS i only had a lukey muffler on the rear and it was noisey as hell but sounded great. the guys fitting it got me to take it for a spin round the block to see if i wanted to quiten it down. i took it for a spin, and as much as i liked the sound i knew that mr policeman would bend me over and insert his nightstick into a certain orrifice if i left it that loud, and also on trips it would piss me off, so we put eith a 12 or 14" resonator (hotdog style) in the centre and it made it much better. although it did lose a bit of bark.

so a resonator alone won't be enough to tone down my exhaust volume and drone?

i.e. get it under the legal db level?

i found a hot dog keeps it down nuff long as ya aint got a cannon on the back lol, though it does drone quiet abit but tis bearable :P... mild steel defo ova stainless tho!!! hahaha less ya want it 2 sound like a tin can

    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
