Well I just picked my car up from RE the other day after a tune and I am extremely impressed with the results and thought I'd share them with my fellow SAUers, aswell as get any thoughts or comments. A big thanks goes out to Ray, I'm sure his more than sick of hearing my voice now. I can't reccomend him highly enough, I'm over the moon with the result, everybody who rides in my car can't believe how responsive it is for a 280 rwkw car. Now to build a new motor so I can ram more boost down it's throat without worrying about melting it.

Cant complain with those results man, nice work.

You must be over the moon as I could imagine, must be sweet to drive especially with that power curve!

Is it just a stock RB25 internally?

Thanks,

Abu

Yeah mate I'm rediculously happy with the outcome, I was thinking more like mid 260 rwkw region, which is around what it makes on low boost! It's an absolute DREAM on the street (well as much of a dream as that power can be). As for the engine, yeah its bog stock internally but I'm looking to get one built in the near future not so much for power, but more for piece of mind as i dont want to go melting an engine.

Thats awesome man, for bog stock motor. 279rwkw is massive.

Must have some serious traction issues now lol

Looking at getting CAM's or anything for it at all?

How much boost did it take to get to 279rwkw?

Thanks,

Abu

Yeah its a handfull on the road, at full noise 1st and a fair bit of 2nd gear are useless when hard shifting. It's made the car soo easy to slide now, on the straight, just clutch and then throw it a little and then balance the car with the throttle, my mate in his 2535 powered 33 cant keep up with me when we do slalems now, REVENGE!!!

As for the CAMS, I'm looking into purchasing a built motor off a guy on here, it comes with stage 1 HKS cams. Otherwise I'm going the build my own.

That power was made on only 16 psi, but it drops 1 psi over the graph as the boost controller wasnt fully worked out, but I've since sorted that, so theoretically it should have actually made a smidgen more power.

Although its a drift car, it still can make for some quick runs on the streets, I dispatched a worked V8 torana today on the way home from work, only 2 have the guy say how awesome the gate sounded, AN ENGINE NOTE COMPLIMENT FROM A V8 OWNER!!!! WTF!?!??!

nice curve, good ramp, nice average power

you boost build is ideal at 3300rpm where it ramps to 15psi aggressively (how is traction?)

km/h - 3037 - stock turbo

=============================

65 - 40rwkw - 60rwkw

75 - 60rwkw - 90rwkw

90 - 85rwkw - 110rwkw

100 - 150rwkw - 120rwkw

110 - 189rwkw - 135rwkw

120 - 196rwkw - 165rwkw

130 - 225rwkw - 170rwkw

140 - 235rwkw - 180rwkw

160 - 270rwkw - 182rwkw

questions;

have you got any pics of the manifold?

have you got any pics of the turbo flange?

what a/r is the compressor?

got a pic of the compressor snout?

i had my r33 series 2 to 233kw at the wheels, and i couldnt launch in that car... i would be spinning my 265's all the way untill 3rd gear if i wanted to. So to have even more i can just imagine....

Seriously though if the engine is stock.... i dont want to jinx you but having that much power on a stock motor is like you caring 800kgs on your back everyday...

But other than that congrats dude

Hey Paul, thanks for that comparison, its nice to actually have a solid evidence of my progress. As for traction, through 1st its non existant, 2nd it hooks up at about 5 grand and just takes off from there. Admittedly, my suspension is set up for drift with stiff zeal coilovers all round (cant remember the rates off the top of my head). The best thing about all of this is the satisfaction I get from driveing something I built.

Milan: The car didnt even hit knock levels at 16psi which is all it ever sees now that I've sorted the boost control and it carries nice afrs throughout the rev range. On here its a pretty normal occurance to see rb25s running 300rwkw throughthe likes of gt30/40's and 35/40's on stock internals. But I still dont like running it internally stock, hence why I'll be getting an engine built within the coming months and then aiming for spot on 300rwkw (around 20 psi should see me there). Im just thinking to stick with the 25, or go 25/30 and a bigger exhaust housing, any suggestions?

wow thats unexpected , nice work khunjeng (mr cool)

you almost have even better response and with internal gate and stock manifold

not expected at all - nice work

youll notice the td06 has a fatter peak when it ramps up

but who has the mysterious td06 setup....

yeah thats what I wanted to comapre...cos I never have. different dyno's etc but I have build my cra from stock and the stock result was pretty much as expected so I think its accurate enough for a good comparision..

I suspect my CAS is dodge cos I'm getting inconsistant tunes..this result was the lastets b4 i buggered my leg. I will replace the CAS and go again. My guys reckon its not comming on hard enough...

thats on 1.2 bar btw.

bit of the thread hyjack! hehehe

if the cas is bugged your timing would either be in front or behind

that is the FC woudl expect your timing to be say 15 and it could either be say 10 or 20

so on max load ramped up you woudl be near 20deg ign timing but cos your CAS is off it coud be say 15 deg so its under and can do with some more timing or its over (say 25deg) and its on the peak of detonating but you should be making more power if that makes sense. basically the ecu and PFC dont know what the CAS is dialed in at so if its out of whack it thinks base timing is 15deg when it could be 12deg or 22deg. it bases its level of timing around that, so if its wrong you will either deontate your asss of at liek 15deg on max load (way too loo) or make f**k all power near 20deg timing (too high)

i had a guy email me a few times from some other state he was detonating his ass off and making jack all power and on max load he was near 10deg ign timing

its way too low and turns out the CAS he was using was off the planet so at idle PFC assumes 15deg but it was more like 5deg or something stupid

well anyway you get the drift - if the CAS is out of whack your timing wont match your power levels

most normal gtst's max around 20deg ign timing and make good power and a bit of detonation

if you make like 150rwkw and are running 20deg ign timing then your cas is off the planet and dialed backwards (ie 20 isnt 20 its more like 10)

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
