To be more specific, I've had the back of my car swing out while cornering fast or sharply... which then goes into a momentary drift... how do I get out of this situation without crashing the car? which way do I steer? Which pedals do I press? What gear do I put the car into (its manual).

Its a R32 GTS, so no AWD, just RWD.

The best way is to stay calm, counter steer, and ease off the accelerator. As you ease off the car should start to come around, then smoothly bring it back around to straight. The trick though is really staying calm and being smooth.

Are you asking how to properly drift though ? Cause the idea behind drifting is to take the corner sideways, going through a corner hard and having the arse end pop out afterwards isn't really drifiting.

a friend was telling me about how he used to drift his 180sx....

turn into the corner at a fast speed, with ur foot off the accellerator.. and then about halfway or so thru the corner plant ur foot and hang on :)

hehe

sounds good

but then again, 180sx are very tail happy so i suppose that technique sounds about right.......

  • 4 weeks later...

naaa. if the back end ever steps out.. DONT EASE OFF UNTIL OUT OF THE CORNER AND GOING WHERE YOU WANT TO GO...

the biggest killer is people freaking out, ****ting themselfs and taking their foot off the accel.. keep those wheels spinning! if one grips and you have sub drift suspension, it'll fishtail into a pole or something..

Steer out of everything!

one method is

*Induce oversteer

yank the steering one way VERY HARD =) this will induce oversteer, then steer out and power on...

*hand brake*

well before the corner, steer out, steer in, handbrake till desired angle, lots of revs and back on the power.. steer thru the corner.. Major coordination required here =)

*another way is to left foot brake

come in at speed, turn in sharply, power on and left foot brake to slow the front of the car.. steer out and enjoy =)

have fun bending parts =):burnout: :burnout:

Badbiki, you are a brave one!

Sure, powering out of oversteer is effective, but if you aren't confident with the technique, it can lead to disaster - normally fishtailing = bad news if there's something solid around.

If you aren't confident with oversteer, getting of the gas SLOWLY is the best way to catch the slide. You might end up facing the wrong way, but you are less likely to hit anything coz you are going slower. If you have turned more than 1/2 way round, just get on the brakes, no point trying to catch that...

On the topic, I had a funny moment at the driver training day the other day when the instructor got sideways and spun the car at ~100 at turn 4. Even the best drivers get it wrong sometimes - he didn't catch it the first or second fishtails, so he pulled the car up instead.

nope... i wouldn't want any other party involved either.. if they messured out the accident.. =)

i could see, dangerous driving, speeding, maybe even wreckless... I'd loose my licence..

was just leaning the car out aswell, got 228hp @ <10:1 AFR

the wideband o2 sensor doesn't read below 10:1... so we dont know exactly.. but in a nutshell, the car has more power than mine and more than i could handle.. makes me think twice about 300rwhp..

We've got a huge industrial area with flat curbs and no obstacles! I'll get some footage of our drift day on sunday just gone.

I'll try and get rid of as many SR boards to help get some $$ in ya pocket.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
