Hi guys ,

I picked up my series 2 99 260RS the other day and some pricks stole the centre console part around the shifter..... it must of had a gauge or something of interest or someone working at the brisbane docks has a stagea and prefered mine to theres.

Does anyone know if there was anthying of interest there because there was a lot of wires ect going nowhere.

Thanks in advance.

aww man that sucks man!! did you buy any insurance at all? if you do i think you could claim them.

Out of curiousity how much you paid for it? Andth details of the car? Like how manykms has it done ETC. Let s know.

mmm s2 eyelids :) in the rare case they're not to your liking I'd be happy to buy them off you :)

Hopefully you'll be able to pick up a new centre console part somewhere without too much trouble. I know a couple of wreckers here in SA have had stageas in stock before (ie. half-cuts etc for parts).

Yeah I have insurance but I have to pay the first $500 so I dont think its worth it.

What I was wondering is do the series 2 260rs autech have a diffrent centre to a standard stagea.

Not to sure about the eyelids I have to paint the front bar and I will make my mind up then about the eylids.(dont think I want them)

I want the 34 gtr front just getting the pricing together now. oh and the price .... a freaking fortune thats why I had to sell my first autech.

yea and the price? who did you buy it through from? how many kms has it done ETC?!

Just under $30,000 it was my mates car who lives in chiba Japan. I imported it myself and have been doing this for over 15 years but have always bought toyotas [ Soarers Supras etc these are my first experiances with Stageas. Even though I love the cars I am a little bit concerned how most of them have a problem with some rust spots.

When I give it its first australian wash I will take a few photos.

My series 2 has a couple of spots but nothing under the mirrors....... go figure ?

heres a pic of my series 1 autech getting fixed then my series 2 with norust` under the mirrors series 2

well....the bad news is you've got buckleys of finding a second hand one, which sucks....I'm surprised they didn't take the whole console they are worth over 1k new from nissan.

the good news is it looks identical to the s2 manual part, it is posted in the manual conversion thread somewhere.....so at least nissan can supply it you don't have to go to autech

Well, I think it looks identical to an S1 surround & my guess is some amatuers ran out off time stripping out the whole lot working from bottom to top. If there are no dangling connectors laying around in the exposed wiring harness then my guess is there is no difference to S1. Maybe a cigar lighter has been placed there but that's about all. I would go for a front cut, probably even RS4 manual would go close or check out a wreck that has not been picked clean. Good luck, car looks awesome champ. Keep us posted on how you go?

Best regards GW

Edit. PS: You have a mate in Chiba Japan? Who knows the 260RS? Pleeeeease keep us posted. ;)

Edit. PPS: Your mate could tell you if he had an aftermarket device installed there? I-color display maybe that drew the unwanted attention?

Wouldn't surprise me if they were after the whole console (would sell very quickly to anyone thats just done a manual conversion :(). But yeah your going to have a hard time finding another one sec hand. Maybe look at the Yahoo auctions (even then they are rare and quickly snapped up) or get a S2 RS4S manaul one from nissan which should be the same.

P.S gotta love the maze of wiring, I don't think I've had one import yet that hasn't come with a few extra kilos of wiring.

Thanks guys

Im new to these Stageas but I have to admit I have always loved the RB26 an Im sure with a little extra boost they wont feel the extra weight to much.

The series two seems to be a little bit more refined and I am thinking of putting the 34 GTR front with the proceeds of the sale of my series one autech, so maybe there might be a series two autech bar and front up for sale real soon

cheers

    • And one last super random thought, I remember when SAUNSW had a dinner with Alan Heaphy, and another with Fred Gibson there was talk of the R32 GTR cast alloy uprights failing in racing, and one of the things Fred did when they had to add weight to the vehicle was taken the failing alloy uprights, and have them made of steel. Does anyone remember back to 1990/1991/1992 and WHAT was failing in the front hubs/uprights?
    • If you truly want to know how the original failed though, was it a factory defect possibly etc, send it off for investigation. Would probably cost a shit tonne.   The ones that you need to win lotto for, unless you have a good reason for that part to be bolt on, I'd probably roll with getting a few small stitch welds carefully put in place as an extra safety factor once everything is all torqued up tight
    • Are you sure? Because I wouldn't necessarily be. Do we even know the material they've made the new uprights from?   Looking at the fractures in the earlier pics, it does to me look like both a twisting, and levering upward action doing the damage, so you're hoping for both compression, and tension. Depending on the bolts, they can stretch (even high grade bolts will) and now you're hoping for the threads themself not to stretch, as if they do, bye bye mating surfaces holding together, hello bolts now going into shear.
    • Lets say I wanted to buy this, specifically for this purpose. How do I actually perform the function. Can I still buy a Consult-1? Am I about to be burned by the fact my car is a 2000 model Series 2 R34 and thus will be some stupid other system? Do I just need this -> https://obd2australia.com.au/product/nissan-consult-14-pin-to-usb-ddl-diagnostic-interface-with-ftdi-ft232r-chip/ And with what software?
    • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc.
