  • 2 weeks later...

Pretty quiet in here, has every ones cars died ? The blue R32 is still a few weeks off dammit! The new bottom end build has turned into complete new long motor build including nitto oil pump, trust sump, $1700 tomei valve springs, new valves, custom head oil drain setup and T51 turbo rebuild. Just the cams will be left from the old engine. What a head fcuk !

32GTR has been in the shed since the last bracket race. Like most gt-r owners I am spending more time and money working on it than driving it.

Also buying 2 more commodores has distracted me again and getting ready for speedway season.

Few things to sort out but I will be racing saturday. So far have fitted HKS oil cooler & DLI, Koyo radiator & silicon hoses, Kics r40 open nuts, Cusco plate relocate and Nissan oem radiator rubbers, gearbox boot & bush, coilpack loom, exhaust bracket etc. Have already removed my a/c foward of the firewall and plenty more is going to get pulled. Still got rego & other bits to fit but running out of time. I will just be out for burnouts and fun on sat.

Next year I will be buying more M/T's, stripping more weight and then probably cage time. Hopefully 10's on a budget or bust!!!

GTR and budget in the same sentence, good on ya ozzie. Then what - 10.9s or so, what then you'll need to jump in the deep end like me to go significantly faster and reliably. Your stock bottom end ain't gonna last forever, (or your box). What times it on tommorrow ? I might think about trying to get the R33 down 11.5 or better. Give me a ring tomorrow gaylord, I'm going to the cas now to try and win some R32 funds !

You know I only enjoy taking your sweet arse on the track honey :(

I will be doing my usual last minute slap together, got to buy a smaller battery because of the oil cooler. Probably head down around 1-2, racing starts at 3. Burnouts and 11.4 again or quicker on my 'budget' chinese tyres.

was a good meeting overall i think, finally got to get my car out for a meeting. ran a best of 13.099 which is pretty good i think since its only running a mailtune and only on wastegate pressure.

I didnt have any major problems out there except on the way back into town when my gearbox started to whine. will be looking for a replacement now. i didnt think it was going to hang on for long seeing as it was already crunching second and third before i went out lol

Meeting worked out well. Had the normal couple of glitches to start but things happened after the sun was going down. I ran a new PB of 12.05 @ 122mph still on regular street tyres. Congrats to Cam for the times he was firing out. Carmelo did a good job shaving a second off the mazda's times. Ryan with the capella blew his gearbox, and Benny got himself some time slips too.

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
