Hi

Did a little search and didn't get what I was after.

Has anyone used or is using a RX7 13B S5 turbo on there RB20/25 engine?

I'm curious as I don't think I have read of anyone using them.. They sell pretty cheap 2nd hand, and also high-flows go for a fairly decent price.

They are quiet a large turbo as the 13b turbo motors flow rate is roughly equivalent to a 4L piston engine.

I ask because I have a friend running one on his Falcon turbo, makes quick boost and a fair bit of power, 181rwkw on 8psi, but other than that, I haven't really seen anyone else running them except for the rotar boys.

S5 13b turbos are pretty popular once high flowed, quiet a few 13b motors running big power with them.

Any comments/feed back/experience would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Abu

There is no need to go for a 13b turbo with the price of rb20/25 turbos. They offer no benefits, are not straight bolt on. Neither are the highflows. You can get rb25 highflows for the same price as those 13b highflows.

As with all highflows, price dictates quality (generally). highflow is a word that is too easily thrown around. There can be as much variance from totally shit ---> best turbo in the world

Have you seen the precision turbos group buy? 1100 - that's a pretty damn good price for a great turbo.

Anything cheaper that you see is probably not worth your money. You'll most likely have to pull it out again, and then buy a proper turbo to do it right the second time - that'll piss you off big time.

Yeah, I have seen those.

Been keeping an eye on the group buy. Do you have to provide your own turbo to get high flowed?

Yes you do. If you like, i've got some rb25 turbos.

Do you have an rb25 turbo on your car atm? If you use mine, then that means that you'll have money left over if you sell yours - help offset the cost of the highflow (e.g. sell for 400-150 = 250 left over).

Going by this calculation, the total cost of your highflow project will be $850 :action-smiley-069:

Or if you don't have an rb25 turbo, you'll need to get one anyways

Na just got a standard RB20 turbo on my car at the moment.

Will have a think about it and see how I go, depends when the group buy will take off.

i once built a rx7 turbo for my rb30det. the specs was

RX7 Rear wheel and rx7 hitachi core rebuilt

VG30 .71 rear housing machined to suit

T04 front housing and wheel

The turbo was good.. it made 240rwkw on 17psi which was good and it came on really early and strong.. i miss that earlyness goodness.

it sounded mad but i wanted more power so went for gt3540

Damn thats pretty good!

A standard S5 turbo has a 1.0 exhaust housing, a S4 on the other hand has a 0.84, from memory the fronts on both are the same, been a while since i researched it tho.

Definately worth spending a little more for a bolt on item, also remember that rotaries love boost so anyone that has paid good money for a high flow have started the boost at 15psi and wound it up from there.

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
