Howdy after 6 months of not being able to drive my car for licence issues and pulling my bits off my car, and upgrading

i am wanting peoples opinions as to what parts i should look at getting while i wait.

car as at a workshop now getting exhaust and inlet manifolds custom made, with a 45mm turbosmart ext wastegate. (GT30r Turbo)

widemouth dump pipe custom made and putting on a xf throttle body.

i currently have on the car PFC, FMIC, walbro 255 fuel pump, 555cc injectors, Z32 AFM, nismo fuel reg, AVCR. turbosmart BOV, apexi pod filter

car previously made 320rwhp on a hiflow turbo on 15psi. Wanting to see 18psi with the gt30r when i get it going.

still on internally standard engine. But currently in the middle rebuilding a rb25 engine, to swap later on down the track.

any suggestions,

the car is being used mainly hard street use.

i have been thinking of custom oil cooler, and a surge tank, but unsure whether i would need them or would help.

still haven't had my car returned to me yet, but have been making progress with my engine rebuild.

thanks for your comments about parts, and have been keeping my eye out for them.

For my forged engine, i also would like some opinions on parts and what power to expect with parts being used on previous engine (PFC, custom ex and inlet manifolds, gt30r turbo, and fuel supporting mods)

I have : ACL rod and main bearing kit, ACL 20thou Forged pistons

performance valve springs

Spool rods

Retaining std cams, cam gears, valves.

engine gasket kit

head and block will be going away soon to have machined, bored, balanced etc

Hi guys

just seeing if anyone would like to make comments about the previous post about my forged engine.

Also considering i'll be making not too bad power when i get my car back, and as nytsky stated about purchasing a new clutch.

What clutch would still be suitable for the street, and occassional drags, and for a reasonable price?

Exedy cushioned button.

Plenty of bite, not too grabby or shuddery. Price is very reasonable too.

Re your parts: forged pistons and rods won't "make" more power. But they will make the engine more reliably able to withstand extra power/load over the long term. The extra grunt comes from mass air-flow throughput. So whatever you do with engine breathing (manifolding, porting, port matching, turbo spec and boost, inlet/exhaust, cams) and the quality of the tune that goes into your PFC will be what essentially dictates the power you'll make. Given what parts you've used, you should have the potential to hit or exceed 275rwkW. And 300 may not be that hard to hit either.

In the normal matter of interest, can you post up the ID tag number off your turbo? There are many flavours of GT30, so it'd be interesting to know exactly what spec you have, including the housing A/R.

Overall sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun.

i will post later the ID of the gt30r turbo, when i get it back (as its with the car at the shop) but what i know at the present time is it has a .70 compressor housing and .82 turbine housing. rated 500hp, came from GCG/honeywell.

Exhaust manifold is going to be similar to extreme manifolds one, where the ext wastegate will be situated underneath the turbo, and plenum will be similar to the plazmaman item.

Car will be taken to godzilla motorsport for a tune, and want to see 18psi running through the turbo, for the short term. I don't want to, (if i can help it) keep the internally standard engine in, as its in top condition, and don't want to damage it. So later on down the track it will be up for sale.

Also will be looking at upgrading my exhaust system, even though its 3", i think its the standard item.

Anyway will keep yas posted.

Looking good. What is the design of your manifold? Got any pics of it bare (as in off the engine, or without turbo bolted up to it)?

Still interested in the CHRA number off that turbo too, if you have it. :)

oh ok, i will have to wait till i get the car back before i know what the number is on the plate.

so hopefully it will be this week when i get it back, and everything is done.

i havent got a pic of the manifold by itself but will have one next week.

i will be purchasing some heat wrap for my power steering hose and other hoses that are coming close to the manifold and turbo.

the heat film you are talking about, is it come in the form of some sort of spray or like a glad wrap etc?

Also be getting a heat shield if it will fit for the turbo.

You could get the turbine housing HPC coated. Depending on finances, look at doing the manifold and dump pipe(s) too. Not cheap but it is good stuff.

ACL do some funky looking sheeting that can be shaped into a good heat shield. Same stuff used in the Ford XR6T, and it is not terribly expensive. Done right it will look something like a factory job, though it might depend on how much bling you want from exposed bits n pieces.

i have bough the acl corrugated metal stuff, it sounds pretty kool and can withstand up to 900deg.

Also have bought 30m of red heat wrap for hoses and etc. Might of bought a little too much but i wont run out.

after buying the stuff i forgot to ask the guy thats doing my car if he had these items and he did and cheaper #$%$#!!

Plenum is still left to go with xf throttle body.

I have recently received my car back finally

Now i have the fun of connecting up vacuum lines fuel lines etc.

Also can i clear up that the blowby outlet off the rocker cover, does the hose go to the intake manifold.

Gt30r id tag is - KE0106j

7001770 5014

i have to also purchase a smaller washer tank bottle because of my accelerator setup off the xf throttle body.

Thinkin of getting one of the greddy washer bottles.

  • 1 month later...

after a whole lot of farkin round with my car, another exhaust manifold havin to be made etc etc.

the car is finally running on 14psi for now safely and on 344hp at the treads.

pickin it up on saturday so should be fun

I bet you are as proud as punch to be finally getting to drive the thing again.

Putting a 3037 on mine very soon.I got the surge slot cover on mine tho :D

Oh just looking at yours being a .7 cover as mine is a .6

Very interesting wat stuff did u have to move to actually mount the gt30 power steering apears to b moved and washer bottle was that all or is aircon removed to run bottom intercooler piping aswell has to b moved?

Interested in maybe doing something similiar in the future just wondered how involved it was from say fitting a normal high flow turbo ie manifolds etc wat sorta budget did u have on this ?

thanks ROry

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
