Does anyone work/know someone who works for the Commonwealth bank?

In particular thier Fraud area.

Ive had a massive issue today with my account being wiped clean by some muppet who's somehow stolen a replacement ATM card from my mailbox, increased the drawing limits and gone on a spree across 3-4 ATM's in a certain suburb of Melb... ripping all my cash out to leave me with about $5 to my name :P

No idea how this could have occured with all the "measures" banks have in place. its utterly beyond me and im not happy as i was sitting at freaking home all day yesterday so it sure as hell wasnt me drying my account out.

Ive lodged a "case/claim" with the CBA Fraud area, and they said it could be upto 3-4 weeks, if not more.

So that really farks me up.

The amount was quite substancial, and as im going to be overseas in 4 weeks... i was really needed the cash!!!

So if anyone knows someone that can help out, i would greatly appreaciate it.

Cheers

how did they get your pin?

make sure you state in your claim that you have not given your pin to anyone, and destroyed any papers that contained it..

my gf also is in a similar situation with a HUGE amount of her money taken from a branch 2 days ago...

and suprise suprise, she is also with CBA..

i also had a bizzare situation winth CBA, with money being taken from my account...luckily i got most of it back....

they really need to get their act together!!!

CBA cards if they send you a new one say if it was stolen or lost (not sure if this is why u got a new one ash) they send you the PIN in a seperate tear apart package thing on a different day... which is stupid.

Altho to activate it you usually have to ring and answer some pretty intimate questions about your spending habbits... like what your account balance was the day before you rang... or what you last used your card to buy etc.

No idea how the person got my PIN :P

I've never told anyone my PIN and i made sure i was beyond clear on that today.

Funny thing is the ATM's the cash was taken from are a 35-45min drive from my house. So its not even local to me.

I looked @ the CBA logs of my account (the rep showed me), and someone tried to change it (i think) yesterday over the counter and failed.

However they succedded in increasing the withdraw limits to a far larger amount than what i set it at via thier call centre.

Still doesnt explain how they changed/accessed the PIN though, so the CBA have a fair bit of explaining to do as i'll be reporting it to the Police tomorrow aswell.

The only thing i can think of is the PIN mail letter was swiped from the mailbox, along with the card itself.

I've been having random letters go missing lately... so i'll be getting a PO box... *once* when i get my cash back to i can pay for one :(

That's ridiculous

the card obviously has to be activated and all that by you before it can be used but you'd already know this.

Hope it all works out :(

Dunno anyone at the bank though.

Hope it works out aswell :)

They will have video of the ATM's, and the over-counter attempt.

So that will clear up the fact it sure as hell wasnt me... i was asleep till 1pm yesterday as i worked till 6am Thur morning lol.

Yeah, the replacement card must have come. But i didnt ask them for a new PIN.

They said that when the new card came, that the PIN would just transfer over once i used the card for the first time...

But i never saw the card... so maybe they stuffed up and sent the PIN aswell? And the muppet card thiefter hit paydirt! :P

its possible... definately worth looking into... cause if they farked up and sent your pin then they need a good hard reeming.

i remember they did the same thing to me years ago but the spastics sent them both on the same day so the PIN and my new card were in the mailbox at the same time

everytime I've gotten a new card, and activated it over the phone...the questions are pretty basic...d.ob, phone number and sometimes the security word that you set....nothing very 'intimate'

theyve always asked me transaction history...

and how many people are going to know i spent $13000 at sexyland on a real doll?

lol

this is a joke btw so shut up in advance.

Sorry to hear bro that sux...

Hope they sort it out and it doesn't take that long... 4 - 6 weeks i can understand they need to do some investigation but still cant take that long, to review recorded phone calls etc, they should be a good indication i would have thought.

Fark! They cant track the spending at all? Or was it all simply withdrawls from an ATM?

You would hope CBA are on the ball and you get your money back.

I know ANZ are great like that....or if it was acredit card then you woudl be covered against fraud. But savings ? Shit :P

I hope they sort it out. Was just 4 large ATM withdraws and thats it

Either way, im gonna switch banks after this i think.

I've heard ANZ are a bit better from a few people over the years. So this will push me over i think.

Or at least chat to other banks and see what security they offer, as quite frankly for someone to be able to do this... i believe, shouldnt really be possible at all.

So the CBA have a bit to answer for

Try another bank, Commonwealth bank are.........UMM.I'll keep the comments to myself, but when working around with bank, I get the most complaints from customers with commonwealth.

So Ash, i just got a new Mastercard from being shit faced in Shep and entering the wrong pin number 3 times and the card beign confiscated. If you want to steal the card im up for a wild weekend. And i will just claim it all under insurance and stolen card ... even stevens :P

i have worked in banking for sometime now (switching over to it from mech. engineering field) and have had some experience in internet fraud area and now work in operations as a senior consultant so i guess i am entitled to an opinion on this; at the end of the day most banks offer similar security but amongst the top 4 big banks ANZ is a very good option from many angles..

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
